  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 10:28 PM) Could they have done it any other way with Crean? Mr. Clap-a-lot? He is an attention whore. *ends anti-IU rant* Guessing you didn't see it. Crean didn't know it was coming. He actually looked perturbed initially. You're going to have a lot to rant about IU this year. Should be a fun year for you!
  2. QUOTE (zenryan @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 08:32 PM) I guess the first "big" upset of the season is South Alabama going into Florida State and winning by 6. Hamilton must only feel comfortable coaching when fans are breathing down his neck. Purdue lost to Bucknell
  3. So-so first half for the Hoosiers. Pretty sloppy. Ferrell looks good. Love Will Sheehey, but he CAN'T commit 3 fouls in less than 30 seconds, all out of frustration. Zeller is Zeller. Nothing fancy, just good.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 07:07 PM) Crean signed to 2020, was that really necessary? Less bugged by the extension than by the way it was announced. On the court, right before tipoff in a cheerleading fashion? Really?
  5. Like Lunardi's first bracketology, not that it means anything. IU a #1 seed feeding into Indy is excellent. Even better since I gambled and bought tickets for the regional there.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 08:10 PM) And let's be honest, if all that happened is two freshman who may not have played that many meaningful minutes dont play for some games, thats pretty damn good considering what you've been through. Textbook slap on the wrist. That's true. I think Perea, if healthy, was expected to provide good depth inside which would allow Zeller to move out to the perimeter more. Zeller will make jump shots this year, not just dunks and two footers. Jurkin, not sure what his role would have been with the depth they have. Might have just been a few minutes a game to disrupt the middle (he's not much of an offensive threat at this point, but has long arms and can block/alter shots). It could actually help. It could help them add another layer to the depth about 1/3 of the way into the season. I don't expect IU to go undefeated so interrupting the flow during the season can be a good thing. It could make them more adaptable come tourney time. It may help them peak closer to tourney time. That said, I think 9 games is a bit much.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 08:02 PM) But he is clearly a fan of the program right and somewhat steered them there? Why 14k in stuff directly to those kids? Just seems strange, like a "handler". I know there has been compliance issues at OSU that as soon as you buy season tickets, individual tickets or donate to a charity they put you on the "no contact" list. He was/is Perea's legal guardian. The stuff was all permissible if he had not donated $185 to IU 20-25 yrs ago. Many kids from his program have gone to other D-I schools. It's not like he funnels all kids to IU.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 06:20 PM) There is probably more to the story than that. 9 games is nothing anyway. The NCAA is trying to crack down on AAU coaches steering kids to schools they are closely aligned with. Apparently not. Sadly, it wasn't even one donation, it was several donations totaling a whopping $185, the last 15 years before he dealt with the two kids. As detailed in the NCAA’s October 31, 2012 decision letter: The institution was aware that Mr. Adams and his nonprofit organization had provided support to Mr. Perea and Mr. Jurkin, but believed such support was generally permissible pursuant to an NCAA June 6, 2000, interpretation, given Mr. Adams’ status as their nonscholastic coach and Mr. Perea’s apparent legal guardian. At the time, the institution did not believe Mr. Adams to be a representative of their athletics interests. From the summer of 2010 through April 2011, during the course of planning the recruitment of Mr. Perea and Mr. Jurkin, the institution’s compliance staff worked closely with the conference office, the NCAA AMA staff and NCAA enforcement basketball focusgroup staff regarding the relationship between Mr. Adams and the institu tion’s men’s basketball program and how to ensure the permissible recruitment of prospective student-athletes with ties to Mr. Adams’ nonscholastic team. It was not until April 2011 that the then assistant athletics director for compliance revealed for the first time that he had knowl edge that Mr. Adams previously had made donations to the institution’s booster club. After completing his degree in 1980, Mr. Adams donated nominal amounts to the institution’s booster club. In total, Mr. Adams donated $185 between 1986 and 1992. He has made no other additional financial contributions in support of the institution’s athletics program. Despite the minimal nature of Mr. Adams’ donations, and the fact that the last donation he made was more than 15 years before he provided expenses to a prospective student-athlete who enrolled at the institution, Mr. Adams must be considered a represen tative of the institution’s athletics interests. The NCAA Basketball Focus Group worked with Indiana University staff to review the interaction between the men’s basketball program and Adams, A-HOPE, and Indiana Elite and have found no impermissible access or additional basis to further establish Adams as a representa- tive of Indiana University’s athletics interests.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 06:22 PM) Carrier classic Uni's Enough to make me not want to tune in
  10. Does anyone know well/use ESPN3 often? My questions are is there any way to record a game on ESPN3 and if not, do they have replays of all games of just select ones?
  11. I've read about 50 pages in this thread in the last week and I have never seen so many people freakin whining about referees. Not even as many as a basketball thread full of Illinois fans! Not everything is a conspiracy people!
  12. Are Oregon and USC playing a football version of a halfcourt basketball game? Everytime I look somebody's inside the opponent's 20 yard line. It's like they aren't using the whole field.
  13. Took me a few days to read 40+ pages - less 5 or so I chose not to read about the Uthoff transfer nonesense, but I'm finally caught up! Is it basketball season yet??
  14. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 1, 2012 -> 10:28 AM) BCS Championship Game odds: This article: http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/...isman-race-more includes ESPN stat geek Chris Fallica's odds that each of the top 4 teams finishes the season undefeated. ND has the best odds of running the table, but also needs others to lose in order to finish in the top two. Using those odds, I calculated title game odds based on the following assumptions: (1) At no point will a team with a loss be ranked higher than any of the four that remain undefeated (2) In the final BCS standings, an undefeated Alabama would be ranked higher than an undefeated Oregon, who would be ranked higher than an undefeated Kansas State, who would be ranked higher than an undefeated Notre Dame. I know that Oregon is #4 right now but their rating in the computer component will go up due to their remaining schedule. (A) Alabama and Oregon both go undefeated (whether or not KSU/ND do is irrelevant) 10.8% (B) Alabama and Kansas State both go undefeated and Oregon does not (ND irrelevant) 19.9% © Alabama and Notre Dame both go undefeated and Oregon and Kansas State do not. 16.4% (D) Oregon and Kansas State both go undefeated and Alabama does not (ND irrelevant) 3.5% (E) Oregon and Notre Dame both go undefeated and Alabama and Kansas State do not 2.9% (F) Kansas State and Notre Dame both go undefeated and Alabama and Oregon do not 9.3% (G) Alabama goes undefeated but the others do not 10.0% (H) Oregon goes undefeated but the others do not 1.7% (I) Kansas State goes undefeated but the others do not 5.7% (J) Notre Dame goes undefeated but the others do not 12.3% (K) None of the four go undefeated 7.5% Total odds of making the title game as an undefeated team: Alabama 57.1% Oregon 18.9% Kansas State 38.4% Notre Dame 40.9% Of course, in scenarios (G-K) there are one-loss teams in the title game and Alabama and maybe Oregon get in some of those cases also, but those are harder to put odds on since they involve the outcomes of the other one-loss teams as well. I will be interested to see if these numbers get updated each week. I would think Alabama's odds would improve the most this week with a win. What happens to Notre Dame's strength of schedule if Oregon beats USC twice? Conversely, what about Oregon's is they beat USC twice but so does ND? That would leave USC with 5 losses, right? What if Michigan loses to Ohio or god forbid to Northwestern or Iowa too? Does that weaken ND's schedule component to change the numbers? I wonder if USC being a common opponent could hurt ND and the Ducks and help K-State?
  15. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 03:16 PM) I certainly give zero f***s and hope that Illinois can land as many talented players as they please. I was simply defending the fact that they really haven't done anything to warrant being singled out or trashed compared to any other school. Other than camping out in PSU parking lots?
  16. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 12:39 PM) @Matt_HayesSN #ESPN says Illinois sent six coaches to #PennState. In the parking lot. I don't think Zooker would do that. I think that's f*ckin ridiculous. Pick up the phone if you must, but that is simply classless. Illinois coaches staking out PSU players
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 02:23 PM) Whhhaaaaaaat?? What part of that was unclear to you?
  18. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 01:30 PM) The sanctions are not enough. Opinions vary. I think I am still the only one that thinks the NCAA's nose didn't belong here in the first place. I reserve the right to change my mind, but I have yet to hear an argument that makes me think the NCAA should have any jurisdiction or purpose here. Soxbadger, I agree with your premise. I'm not getting into the point by point of your argument, but I do firmly belive this has all been done as a result of a mob mentality so to speak. I think the NCAA felt they had to act because it was the right thing to do based on public outcry.
  19. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 09:21 AM) It's an NCAA sanction-it's meant to impact the program as a whole and to serve as an example to anyone who might ever contemplate similar actions. I'm one of the few that think the NCAA was out of bounds here and got caught up in media frenzy/court of public opinion/mob mentality (you choose). I don't agree with the NCAA's actions at all. And I am NOT a Penn St. fan or a Paterno apologist.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 08:13 AM) So the NCAA is forcing them to set up their fund for paying off victims? That is hardly a punishment then. They are going to have to do that anyway. No. The $60M goes into a fund which will be used to help organizations nationwide that are related to child sex abuse including the prevention of. It's not to pay off the victims directly.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 07:42 AM) So...is that worse than the team going away for a full year? I think it is worse. My jaw dropped. Penn St may never be the same.
  22. I guess Michigan jumped the gun scheduling Utah, Colorado and Oregon State all before the planned 2017 beginning. It makes sense though. I had forgotten that the Pac 12 is playing a 9 game schedule. If I were USC or Stanford, I wouldn't look forward to playing 9 league games, ND and a Big Ten team with only one other open game to schedule. Other teams would have simillar situations. If they were playing 8 games, it would be more realistic. My guess is 9 league games will be coming.
  23. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 7, 2012 -> 02:03 PM) Shouldnt Wisconsin- MSU be one of the top 5, and that could be either the CCG or the regular season game (hail mary win for MSU). Likely Wisconsin has at least 3, if not 4 games on that list. Edited the bottom. Wisky - MSU (hail mary) was one of them. I had the OSU game, which is already on the list and not in the top 5.
