  1. QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 20, 2012 -> 11:04 PM) Otto Porter is the best player on the floor right now. Nice choke job by IU. They got conservative and tried to milk the clock. I hate it when teams do that and it disrupts their offensive flow. Didn't help Yogi Ferrell missed two FT's including the front end of a one and one. Sadly, the only two he missed the whole game.
  2. Georgetown is pretty tough. They start 4 guys 6'8 or taller and have great length. Making it hard for IU to make interior passes. Georgetown getting a lot of deflections even on the perimeter. I'll be glad with the Cody Zeller POY talk slows. He's a very good player and makes other guys around him better, but he still has a lot of toom to improve. Once he starts stepping out and drilling 15' jumpers and hits better than 50% at the FT line (he was much better last year!), then I'll jump back on that train. Can't wait until Perea and Jurkin (even if just for defense and rebounds) starts playing and see how his size and length may help free Zeller up. Right now, Watford and Hollowell are the other two inside players and they are both realistically wings.
  3. Wrap your head around these numbers!! 138 points 52-108 FG 27-71 3pt FG These are the numbers of ONE player in a game tonight!!! Jack Taylor of Grinnell vs. Faith Baptist Bible New NCAA All-Division record. That's mind boggling, no matter who you are playing. That's 2.7 shot attempts per minute and more than one made shot per minute!!
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 20, 2012 -> 12:59 PM) It's failing and you add it to the Big Ten Network I guess. Only problem with that is Fox owns 495 of the BTN. ESPN is the owner of the Longhorn Network, simply paying UT an annual fee. A financial arrangement is possible, but I don't see how they could meld them together.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 20, 2012 -> 07:42 AM) You sure did gramps. Thanks! Next trip down memory lane brings up Alfrederick Hughes, Xavier McDaniel and Darrin Fitzgerald
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 19, 2012 -> 10:01 PM) I know it seems we say this every other year or so, but it's astonishing how awful the talent in college basketball is this season. I don't mind rooting for IU and think Cody Zeller is a good basketball player, but him being in the position of Preseason Player of the Year is scary. Gone are the days of Patrick Ewing, Chris Mullen, etc all playing through their senior year. Hell, its rare to get top, top juniors now. Did I just date myself with this crowd? ha ha
  7. So much for IU vs. UCLA... Who invited Georgetown to the party?
  8. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 19, 2012 -> 06:20 PM) I think I upset someone. Indiana rolling now, as they should. Speaking of rolling, UNC looks set to destroy Maui. Stupid comments upset me. Saying IU was sucking tonight, couldn't hit the broad side of a barn (until Hulls got hot), playing sloppy, uninspired, etc... All those are legit shots. But a stupid comment about a player like that irritates me.
  9. I'm hoping Maryland's invite to the Big Ten was conditional on them getting rid of those god awful uniforms!!
  10. QUOTE (Fotop @ Nov 19, 2012 -> 11:22 AM) I know my posting is sporadic at best. So, if this is a drive-by/he's only posting because they're #1 and 11-0, so be it. But just wanted to check in and say I'm having a ball this season so far. Not here to gloat about it or say who's better than who and who deserves what, just to say that I'm geniunely ecstatic that for at least a week, Notre Dame is #1. It's a dream that as a fan, you don't want to wake up from. Heck part of me just wants to freeze time and not have to see them play USC this weekend. It really has been an unbelievable ride so far, and of course I'll be devastated if they lose this weekend. But this is White Sox in 2005 type of experience for some of us. Could be once in a lifetime, as I hold no reservations about them repeating this anytime soon. As evidenced by this year, you need a lot of things to happen, most of which being uncontrollable, to be able to go 11-0. Nice post.
  11. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 19, 2012 -> 07:08 AM) Nearly every team that gets to 11-0 or better against a difficult schedule needs some luck to get there. Even more reason for a little humility... Rather than posting a bunch of crap trying to defend something that doesn't need to be defended. Just a thought..
  12. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 19, 2012 -> 06:04 PM) If his NBA career doesn't work out, Zeller can become a pro wrestler with the way he sells fake injuries. Yeah, he was faking. Try posting something intelligent for once.
  13. It would be nice if IU could just put Christian Watford on the FT line all night. He's 5-6 today and now 25-27 for the year. Last year going into the Kentucky game in the Sweet Sixteen he had hit 34 in a row.
  14. Indiana struggling early against Georgia. Zeller, Hulls and Oladipo all with two fouls in the first half. Depth will be tested today. In other, possibly big news, Hanner Perea and Peter Jurkin have been granted permission to travel to NY. They did not travel with the team and will arrive later this evening. The NCAA has agreed to hear their appeal in NYC tomorrow, which could mean they will be eligible tomorrow night. Granted the appeal has to be won, but obviously with Shabazz declared eligible, there is optimism.
  15. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 18, 2012 -> 05:27 PM) Having an opinion isn't disrespectful, but when you spend weeks talking about how much better Oregon and KSU are than ND and then those two go out and wet themselves, then expect to hear about it. You know a little humility goes a long way. ND is damned lucky to be where they are right now.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 17, 2012 -> 10:45 PM) Great chance of Alabama/Florida. However, with Barkley's injury, ND seems to be in a good spot against an imploding USC team. Florida has to win @ FSU first. Not a gimme by any means.
  17. QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 17, 2012 -> 04:23 PM) I have a few questions. The answer may obvious but it's not coming to me at the moment. When a punt is executed and the ball hits a member of the the receiving team, if it's recovered by the punting team they keep possesion. Is this just an NFL rule? If the punt is blocked, why is that not considered the same as hitting a member of the receiving team (punt returner or blocker) and it be a free ball? What is the NFL rule on the blocked punt? One is beyond the line of scrimmage, the other is not. The rule is not applied behind the line of scrimmage.
  18. QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 18, 2012 -> 10:17 PM) I watched Ok State rip up NC State today. NC State is a bit fraudulent as far as their ranking goes, but OK State has a pair of deadly scorers in Nash and Smart. Marcus Smart put on a show in the first half and Nash is as good of a scorer as there is when he's on. If those two can find some consistency that's a top 20 team. Saw part of that game. Today's game aside, I agree with you. Any team coached by Mark Gottfried has a ceiling lower than the top tier. I suspect Michigan will expose them in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge.
  19. Johnny Football - 155 HS touchdowns! That's more than 4 TD's a game for his whole HS career, playing Texas 4A football. Not shabby at all.
  20. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 12:24 PM) Sorry, a team that struggles with Michigan, Purdue, BYU, and Pittsburgh doesn't get to use the argument they would stay in the game vs anyone. I honestly hope they get into the national championship game just so Oregon can stomp them. Actually your post made his argument. It's ND's offense that struggles. It is their defense that keeps them in position to win those close games. My thinking is that while ND's defense is very good it would eventually crack against a team that has a dominant offense and a good enough defense to keep the ND offense off the field most of the night. Even the best defenses break down when TOP lands them on the field a large portion of the game. The Michigan game is a prime example. Michigan outgained ND for the game and won the TOP battle. Michigan had drives of 10, 14 and 11 plays in the 2nd half. If Michigan didn't throw 5 interceptions and fumble the ball at the ND 8 yard line, ND doesn't win that game. Their defense doesn't look so good. My point is not that Michigan is better (they aren't), but that a more efficient offense without a plethora of TO's, combined with a defense that wins the TOP battle will wear ND down and IMO mean a double digit loss for the Irish. If those things don't happen and ND's offense gets rolling, then who knows what can happen.
  21. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Nov 11, 2012 -> 09:23 AM) Well of course it's going to work out. One way or another, guys will be gone and they'll have the right amount of scholarships out there. But "it works out" doesn't justify it or explain it. I'm kind of in between on this. Kids transfer from programs all the time, so just because one does at IU, doesn't mean the kid was pushed out. I don't think it is fair to automatically assume there are shady things going on when we're still a year away from these kids putting on an IU uniform. With IU's depth this year, someone is bound to get frustrated and leave. Not all kids qualify. That said, there certainly is the potential for a mess. I'm not completely comfortable with it. Right now IU is three scholly's over the 13 limit for next year. Keep in mind, none of these verbal commitments have signed or qualified academically, so nothing is official. But what happens if Zeller wants to stay a 3rd year. No one thinks its possible, but he doesn't seem like the kind of kid (and the family doesn't seem the type) that is in a hurry to get to the NBA. There are a ton of possibilities and combinations, but if things don't fall, it could be messy and turn into the kind of situation you are already assuming.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 11, 2012 -> 04:37 PM) Hasn't Gruden to Tennessee been the rumor for a month now? Tennessee fans think they have a legit shot at Gruden because his wife is a Tenn grad and from the Knoxville area, I think? I don't buy it.
  23. QUOTE (SexiAlexei @ Nov 10, 2012 -> 03:37 PM) Texas A&M up 20 in the 1st? Where's that Bama defense today? A&M did the same to LSU and Florida in their two losses. Were up double digits in both games. Aggies still hanging in there. Can it actually happen???
  24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 10, 2012 -> 02:05 AM) Yogi looked like the real deal. I was disappointed in Hollowell though. Big Ten league play is going to be awesome. I cant wait to see the PG's match up. Yogi, Craft, Burke, Appling, etc. Also, Gary Harris is so god damn smooth. I wish we got him. I thought Hollowell looked like he got more comfortable in the 2nd half. His confidence grew and he looked like the only one in control late in the game but was pressing early. I'm looking forward to seeing him more. The bottom line is this team is so deep not everybody can score 12-15 pts a game. Yet they likely go about 10-11 deep that can do so on any given night. For them to be a threat for the Final Four, they'll have to be willing to be unselfish and share the ball. A good example last night was Christian Watford. He didn't get many shots early on and really struggled shooting when he got shots. Yet he pounded the boards hard and get 15 rebounds. He ended up getting 13 points, getting helped by going 8-9 at the FT line. Never really felt like he was involved in the offense and missed many shots but ended up with a double double.
  25. QUOTE (farmteam @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 11:01 PM) Actually I thought Crean looked kinda upset about it, but I could be wrong. I thought the whole thing was pretty dumb. I never thought Crean was too much of an attention whore, or at least no more than a standard college basketball coach. Could just be my bias, though. It's not. Little Hurt is a jealous Illinois fan who isn't happy unless he's b****ing about IU. You are right. Crean looked at him like what the hell are you doing. Glass grabbed the mike and acted like it was a pep rally and dropped the extension in at the end. Very odd timing. Me thinks Glass should stay in the hospitality room drinking with the alumni and away from the microphone.
