  1. There is a perception that Halladay has been better than Loaiza because he has won 11 starts in a row and he is doing it for a team competing with the Yankees and REd Sox. Conversely, Loaiza is "considered" the Sox #3 pitcher and has had his success almost in anonymity because the White Sox have not been winning. When you look at the stats, you see that the reality of it is Loaiza has been better over the whole season. But I can see how the perception exists. Obviously the comments were made by a bunch of guys who were talking off the top of their heads and not researching what they were saying. Sox fans shouldn't take it personally, they should just understand that the perception is there. And that the guys on the radio were wrong, but not anti-Sox.
  2. This is another example of why many Sox fans feel put down and put upon by the national media. Plus how could they make that kind of value judgement when the stats scream otherwise? Gammons on ESPN BBTN and Bobby V and Harold Reynolds all agreed tonight that Loaiza should start the all-star game. They showed some highlights and praised his pitching. Another obvious example of Gammons hatred of the Sox!!
  3. Also, this "rejection" came from Gonzalez' agent. It could, I repeat COULD, be some kind of negotiating ploy.
  4. The Expos do play in Puerto Rico again in September. Texas personnel will try and talk him into changing his mind tomorrow.
  5. That was from cbssportsline.com That's my second totally off-base prognostication today! Funny thing, what I read earlier was that they wouldn't speak of any details til after tonight's game. Obviously somebody talked lol
  6. I'm betting Josh Karp is one of the Minor League pitchers inclued in the deal. Any takers??
  7. Then why does everyone in baseball respect him? Why does he have the ear of nearly every baseball GM more so than any other national media person? Believe what you want...... I'll believe what i want.
  8. I disagree wholeheartedly. Just because he says something you may not agree with does not make him a moron. He is extremely well respected in baseball circles.
  9. That tells me nothing......
  10. Actually he got # 21 today
  11. Could make for an interesting OF at Great Falls. Then again, I doubt Anderson stays there long.
  12. Opinions vary......
  13. Two things...... Show me the link where Gammons talked about contracting the Sox. Or I'd at least like to know what rationale he used. I didn't see it, but Gammons isn't stupid. Brando, Gammons always has good info. His soundbites on ESPN are generally just that. But Gammons often brings up trade possibilities before that. Take your own bias out of it and you might see what I am talking about. Yes, Gammons is from the northeast and yes he has reported on the Red sox for many years, and knows that organization better than anyone else, but I don't believe for a second his is prejudiced against any specific team. UNS, hate to argue with you based on facts I don't have, but I would seriously question your numbers. First of all, your numbers are way off in your ticket revenue projections. An average ticket price won't be $23 when you factor in half-price mondays and people buying upper deck tickets and move down. Plus, how many of your 1.7 million tickets are comp tickets?? I don't have the correct revenues so I can't get into an in-depth debate with you on this one, but since the Sox books are closed to the public, I think it would not be easy or reliable to guess.
  14. I don't see it. I think you are paranoid. If he says something bad, it is because they deserve it. Everything I have ever heard him say about the Sox has been more than fair.
  15. What do you base that on? I don't see any bias from him at all.
  16. I just don't see the Red Sox giving up all of those guys. Maybe one of them, but I'd be shocked if you see Fossum and Sanchez moved together. Would really surprise me to see Sanchez moved at all.
  17. There was also Steve Carlton... What year? That would definitely pose a possible dilemma. Seaver or Carlton, hmmmm........
  18. You're accurate, but a year behind.
  19. So we can undisputedly say that Tom Seaver was indeed the best pitcher to don a Sox uniform in the last 20 years. Note: I am not talking results while he was with the Sox, but the best pitcher overall.
  20. Garko was just a 3rd round pick by Cleveland. He was a senior this year. Went undrafted as a junior.
  21. I think Seaver was in the 60s and 70s. Probably not in the last 20 years. I believe he was on those '69 Miracle Mets... Seaver's career definitely went into the 80's, I just can't remember how far.
  22. Chisoxfn or MSF, it's your turn to take us home with the pitchers and catchers. I have to try and get some work done. LOL
  23. OF - Joe Borchard, Jeremy Reed, Anthony Webster, Mike Spidale, Clint King, Ricardo Nanita, Thomas Brice, Chris Young Borchard (Charlotte) remains #1 on this list at least for the rest of this year. He has started to hit better once he went back to Charlotte and started working with Gregg Ritchie again. Reed (Birmingham) has done nothing but make everyone take notice. He would be in the Future's Game if more than 2 players per MLB team were allowed. Webster (Kannapolis) has also been much ballyhooed in the past year. He was BA's #3 prospect for the Sox and named Best Hitter for Average in the Sox system. He is hitting right around .300 in his first season of baseball. Hopefully, he can sustain it for 140 games and continue to be highly regarded. Spidale (Winston-Salem) may surprise some that I have him rated this highly. He is a speedy CF that BA rated as the Best Defensive OF in the Sox system. He repeated Kannapolis last year after struggling at the plate in 2001 and an early season injury. He bounced back to hit .291 in 93 games and is hitting .302 with 15 SB at Winston this year, after again suffering an early season injury. He has little or no power, but walks a decent amount. Could be an interesting top of the order guy. King (Great Falls) was the Sox 3rd round pick this year, so the jury is still out. He is listed at 6-2 190 and is a LH hitting OF with power. He hit .394 with 23 HR and 77 RBI for Southern Miss who lost in the NCAA Regionals. He also walked 25 times in 254 AB, which is respectable. Nanita (Great Falls) could surprise. He was the Sox 14th round pick this year out of Florida International. He just turned 22, so he is a little older and will need to succeed from Day 1. He has done that so far hitting .455 in his first 6 games. He hit .388 with 12 HR and 52 RBI at FIU and walked 39 times in 194 AB, while striking out only 34 times. Like King, Reed and Webster, he is also a LH hitter. Brice (Kannapolis) was rated the #30 prospect by BA so he may deserve to be a little higher on this list. He is 21 and was drafted last year out of Juco in Alabama. He is a native Australian who also hits LH. He is hitting .275 at Kannapolis but has no HRs. He hit .327 at Bristol last year. He goes 6-5 210 and has played 1B as well. Lastly, another possible surprise is Young (Bristol). He is only 20 and was the Sox 16th round pick in last year's draft. He struggled with average at Tucson last year, but had 13 doubles, 5 home runs and walked 19 times. He did strikeout a lot, however. He was a 1st team All-Stater out of talent-laden Texas. He is currently hitting .429 in his first 6 games this year. He may be a long shot, but I felt he was worth mentioning.
  24. I'm in the minority here. I like Gammons and think he is very fair. Sure he talks about the bigger market teams and the teams that are winning more because he is broadcast nationally and has to appeal to the most people. Why do you think the Yankees are on TV so much? Same principle. Gammons knows his stuff and is more connected than anyone in the media. GM's and baseball insiders trust Gammons and give him info they wouldn't normally give everyone else. Man, I hate to be the guy on the other side here, but I don't see any national media bias against the Sox. The national media don't "bash the Sox every chance they get". I have found the national media to be very fair about the Sox. When they made the moves in the off-season, the Sox were applauded for the moves. Gammons said the Sox should be improved, but still had holes. Everyone crucified him for that, but guess what..... HE WAS RIGHT. It's not the world against the Sox people.
