How about Carlos Quentin (?) playing RF for Stanford while he can barely throw. The guy needs Tommy John surgery and is playing through it. On top of that, he was still a first round pick even though they new ahead of time he was headed for surgery. Plus, he can hit a little too. ;-) Whoops for some reason I had Rob Quinlan in my mind instead of Carlos Quentin. Thats the guy I meant to talk about, lol. Did you notice that he didn't cut a ball off last night in the gap because he couldn't throw? He left it to the CF who couldn't get there and the hitter ended up on third instead of second. They were showing him in warmups and he was throwing underhanded.

Lowell Trade Near?
The Sox have Joe Crede. They are not a player in the Mike Lowell sweepstakes.

Bristol and Great Falls are short season teams. They just started their seasons this week.

Barons - Tired of the rain?
Rain out today would be bad because you would lose games off the schedule. Barons don't play Orlando again, so you automatically lose 2 games. Plus, doubleheaders screw up the rotation and make guys like Bullard step in for spot starts and we already know Bull's feelings on that. A friend of mine also told me that is has been over a week now since the Barons have had BP. Not sure of the exact date, but with all the rain last week, it makes since that BP was rained out several times. So 3 days of rainouts, after a scheduled off day isn't what is needed.

Radar looks really bad all over the state of Florida today.

True, but you would still think there would be some out of pocket expenses with tuition that high.

Standard bonus contracts include provisions (or funds) to pay for college if the player doesn't make it. For instance, if they sign him for $600k they would likely add another $50k into a fund to pay for school. Sometimes the amount of that fund can slow or even halt negotiations. In the case of wanting to go to Vandy, you are likely looking at an additional $75k at least. Who knows how much Vandy will cost 5 or 6 years from now? Isn't it close to $20k a year now? Try over 30K OUCH Wonder how much of that $30k Moviel will have to cover at Vandy? Not likely he is on full scholarship.

I was half joking there. Vandy did finish 6th (tied with two other teams) this year. Sowers is a solid pitcher and was arguably the best in the SEC this year (Miss. St. 1st rounder Paul Maholm may argue that point). Sowers didn't throw as hard as I thought he would, but he has a nasty breaking ball and excellent control. He lost the game I saw, but he was impressive nonetheless. Vandy also had a guy a few years ago by the name of Mark Prior. Things just didn't work out for him there so he bolted for USC.

Sorry for not putting "Non-sox" under the title of the topic!

If Farnsworth Throws at Frank Thomas ...
I tend to agree.

Lowell Trade Near?
Sounds that way Could Jose Hernandez be a prelude to a second trade? Was he acquired just for depth? Could the Dodgers be sneaking in and scooping him up? Anyone heard of any other possible suitors?

If Farnsworth Throws at Frank Thomas ...
I doubt Farnsworth will get 10 games. I don't see him as the instigator in the fight. The pitch was nowhere near thrown at Paul Wilson.

Lowell Trade Near?
3B Miguel Cabrera was pulled out of last night's Mudcats-Diamond Jaxx game in the 5th inning. The Florida Marlins will purchase Cabrera's contract and activate him before Friday night's game against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in Miami. Cabrera finished hit Southern League season hitting .365 with a league-best 59 RBI.

Will somebody let this Moviel kid know that Vandy can't play baseball? They finish at or near the bottom of the SEC every year.

Gabe Kapler Released
All I know is I saw the movie Grease, so Vinnie Barbarino is not a good option. Never thought of Kotter as a baseball player though.

They have only played 3 games!!! Work with me here.... LOL

Cubs/Rockies trad
If the Cubs really want Lowell, they'll get him. They have more than enough talent to get him. It is just a matter of whether they are willing to pay the price.
