  1. QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Sep 16, 2007 -> 11:12 AM) Well this class was Willinghams last and don't you think recruits would of tried to stay away after he got fired? This class was one of the worst ND has ever had. Things will get sorted out by the end of this year or next, just wait. Here is a quick summary of the past five Irish recruiting classes: 2004 Class - 16 players (6 on offense) 4 Stars - 2 3 Stars - 8 2 Stars - 6 This and 2005 was Willingham's going away present. Of the 16 players, Darius Walker who left early and two QB's I have never heard of are included. 2005 Class - 15 players (7 on offense) Not any better than the year before. 4 Stars - 2 3-Stars - 11 2-Stars - 2 2006 Class - 28 players (obviously three didn't make it) Weis' first full class. 5 Stars - 2 4 Stars - 10 3 Stars - 15 2 Stars - 1 (kicker) The 12 4+ stars players were far more than the previous two classes combined. 2007 Class - 18 players 5 Stars - 1 4 Stars - 12 3 Stars - 4 2 Stars - 1 (kicker) 2008 Class 19 players (so far) Obviously a lot can change between now and signing day. But the current class includes: 5 Stars - 1 4 Stars - 14 3 Stars - 4 Combining the 2006-2008 classes should make for a strong squad two seasons from now. It's gonna be a long road, but 2-3 years from now, ND should be back knocking on the door of the Top 10. If they can't rebound and start making progress, then Charlie will certainly be under fire. But as unhappy as ND fans are right now, they will suffer through this season. Next year might not be a whole lot better unless some of these young players stand up quickly.
  2. I may be on drugs here, but I will call Tyler Zeller to Indiana. Just a hunch, nothing more.
  3. He would be eligible next year if he left Notre Dame before 12 class days had been completed. I am not sure when ND started classes, but I am guessing he just made it. At least I read this.... not 100% on it's accuracy, but it seems believable.
  4. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 8, 2007 -> 05:12 PM) Notre Dame...7-0 over the Nittany Lions...WOOOO Claussen looks so poised. He has yet to make any pass other than a screen type of pass but he looks so darn composed for a freshman. The kid has that "It" trait and I think he's going to go down as a legend (even though I still think my Irish don't win more than 7 this year, but I still say they get right around 7...the question is can they pick up any early wins). Jason, realistically who do you see ND beating that will give them 7 wins? At this point, I am thinking they will be damned lucky to get to six. And I just don't see the "it" trait in Clausen. He may end up being a solid QB, but I certainly don't view him as the "next coming".
  5. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 10:10 AM) I think there's a big difference between being wrong and looking like a moron. I've done both on this board, so you should trust me on this -- I don't think your posts make you look like a moron. So, just my opinion, but I hope you won't let being not 100% certain stop you from posting. As far UK and UI recruiting go, it will be interesting to see when Jereme Richmond announces his breaking his verbal to UI and heading to Kentucky instead. Honestly, I think he'd be foolish not to. He apparently has NBA potential and UK will be a much healthier situation. Isn't Richmond in the 2010 class? If the kid decommits from Illinois, he should just shut up and chill out. The concept of a kid committing that young is just stupid. What if Webster gets a different job in the next two years. What if he takes a head coaching position at UNC-Wilmington or Drexel or someplace like that? What if he gets a DUI and gets fired? A 15-16yr old kid committing to a college based on a relationship with an assistant is just idiotic. Kids that age can change their minds faster than the wind can change directions. I don't care where he ends up, I just can't stand the idea that he can be "committed" to anywhere 3 yrs ahead of time.
  6. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 09:36 PM) Navy lost by 17 and their QB threw two interceptions in the endzone and another one later on. Rutgers also kept Ray Rice in the game with 2 minutes to go to finally go up 17. If Schiano had any class or Navy's QB had his head on straight it would have been an easy cover, meanwhile they missed it by .5. That's why gambling on games can drive you absolutely nuts and why I don't do so anymore. A couple of examples fresh in my mind of games I lost.... 1. I lost $55 on Kordell Stewart's last second desperation hail mary to beat Michigan several years ago. Once second I'm about to win $50 and end up losing $55. That's a $105 swing on a stupid hail mary, according to my math. 2. I don't remember who Oklahoma was playing in basketball several years ago, but I had the dog +7.5. The game is winding down and its right on the border of the spread, going back and forth. With about 5 seconds left, the underdog (K St. maybe?) hits a shot to make it a 7 point game and Rex a winner (can't remember the amount I had bet on it). All Oklahoma has to do is inbound the ball and stand there for 5 seconds as the clock ran out But NO, they throw the ball in close to the mid-court line and some scrub dribbles twice and launches the ball toward the basket. Of course, with Rex's luck at the time, the ball freakin banks in as the buzzer sounds to give Oklahoma a 10 point win and make Rex a loser. I'm sure there are more, but those two stand out more than any others.
  7. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Sep 5, 2007 -> 10:59 AM) Michigan should still win this game relatively easily (not like 50-point easy, but like at least 38-21 easy). The problem is that Brandon Minor inexplicably got 13 carries in a game that was close (and hurt them big time by tripping over his own feet twice, fumbling the first and blowing a 2-point conversion the next), Henne had a pretty bad day throwing the ball, and the defense is replacing an awful lot of guys. They were clearly not playing anywhere near their capabilities outside of Mike Hart and let a team with some talent hang around. Brandon Minor got 13 carries and Mike Hart did not get 40 carries (different post) because Hart missed most of the 2nd and 3rd quarters with a thigh bruise. If Michigan did not become desparate then Hart would not have returned. That fact alone shows you how good Hart is, especially considering his run for the go-ahead TD. It was reported that he was favoring his leg going into and coming out of the locker room at halftime, which is why he was always shown on the bike on the sideline, trying to keep if from completely stiffening up. Chad Henne was not good at all. If Hart is healthy and Henne plays a normal game, Michigan hangs 50+ on them and the score finishes something like 53-38 and we all blast UM's defense and give Appy St credit for a heckuva battle. But that did not happen. Henne throws a unlike him 4th Q interception (rolling out and tried to force it - he usually throws that away). Twice on critical downs Henne tried to force the ball to his TE who was covered. Three times Mario Manningham had his corner beaten and twice Henne underthrew him allowing the CB to catch up and deflect the pass and once Henne overthrew him by three steps. All three of those plays are 30+ yard pass plays and possible touchdowns. As bad as the defense was, they only gave up 6 points in the 2nd half. The offense is truly who failed them. They had opportunites to get back in the game earlier and could have left Hart on the bench. But they shot themselves in the foot too many times. Minor also lost a fumble on a 3rd quarter drive. As for specifics on Hart... Michigan punted to Appy St at the 11:45 mark of the 2nd quarter. Hart did not play again in the first half and did not return to the field until Michigan started a drive with 2:24 left in the 3rd quarter. He did not have a carry until the 4th play of that drive. He ran for 15 yards on 3 carries on that drive, concluding with a TD run. He ran for an additional 101 yards in the 4th quarter. The bottom line is if Michigan gives us half the offense we expected from them they hang a half a hundred on ASU and the focus is on getting the defense straight, rather than this "embarassing defeat" nonsense. Note: This post was in response to all related posts about the game, not just the one quoted above.
  8. Michigan gets its 15th commitment from New Jersey linebacker J.B. Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald very athletic at 6-4 is the eleventh 4-star commitment for the Wolverines this year. The 15 commitments are the most ever for the Wolverines before the beginning of football season. Rivals rates Fitzgerald as the 8th best OLB in the country although he is likely to play the MIKE position at UM. He chose Michigan over Florida and Rutgers.
  9. It's not uncommon for minor league teams to do this kind of thing at the end of the year. Last year or the year before the Barons and Huntsville both did it with a player in the same game. Makes life hell on the official scorer, but it keeps things interesting.
  10. What the heck is going through Heads head right now???
  11. Was it ever either proven or was there any reliable, corraborating (sp?) evidence that teammates tried to cover it up?
  12. Matt Roth, a 3-pt sharp shooter from Illinois gave Indiana a verbal commitment today. Matt Roth to IU
  13. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 03:02 PM) Rex, what do you think about Egbert? Have you seen many of his starts? Heads, I haven't been around much this year, so I can't say I have seen him much. I did see him in a start last year as well and liked him a lot then. For some reason I was thinking he was bigger than he looked last night, but I'm probably just confused. I like him, but I wasn't sitting anywhere near behind the plate, so I wasn't getting a great look at him last night. I just know he went at the hitters and kept the ball down for the most part. Sorry for the weak report, but I was on a date last night and it was rainy, so scouting wasn't first and foremost on my mind. I'd like to try and see Gio on Monday, but not sure I'll be able to make that happen.
  14. Egbert looked pretty good last night in less than ideal conditions. There was a threat of storms the whole night and a light rain often, making the field slick. Egbert was throwing 90-91 (scoreboard showed 88) and kept the ball down in the zone. On defense Mobile was their own worst enemy. The 7-run 7th inning began with three straight errors only to be followed by a misjudged fly ball that landed in front of the LF as he ran toward the wall thinking it was over his head. I swear I heard circus music playing. Birmingham did not have anyone in the lineup I could see playing in the Majors. Chris Getz might be the type that looks better when you watch him everyday, but I just didn't see it.
  15. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 08:21 AM) The 2007 Football schedule in spreadsheet form--with helmets! http://www.cobrabrigade.com/excel/2007_NCAAF_Schedule.xls I can't open the file. Greasy, do you have a copy that you can email me?
  16. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 05:17 PM) I can't see him not going to Purdue with that schedule of visits. That schedule makes you think Purdue, but I'll go on record now that Purdue will not be his final choice. Mark it down and call me smart if I am right or an idiot if I am wrong. Or just call me an idiot anyway...
  17. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 5, 2007 -> 03:15 PM) My two teams...Iowa and ND right where I want them...ready to be sleepers!!!! Sleepers? Iowa will be lucky to find where 4th place in the Big Ten is and I think they will be looking up then. ND is no sleeper. They'll be lucky to be 8-4 and in the top 25 going into Bowl season.
  18. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 04:53 PM) Latest word is that Matt Roth will be the next IU verbal. http://www.insidethehall.com/2007/07/26/iu...hting-up-vegas/ Aboz, any thoughts on why IU might be targeting Roth over Kyle Kuric? Roth may be a better shooter, but Kuric is no slouch and it seems he can do more on the floor. I know some big names have started to give Kuric a stronger look lately, but I wonder why he has flown under the radar somewhat.
  19. QUOTE(Purdue129 @ Aug 5, 2007 -> 08:28 PM) Yeah, it sounds like right now its: Purdue UNC IU ND We'll see. It'll be nice to see Painter keep cranking on the recruiting. Rumor has it Zeller has changed his focus on his potential major from engineering to business. FWTW
  20. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 12:34 PM) Strangest place you've ever done 'it' ? Go. This could get interesting... LMB, you started the idea, me thinks you should lead this one off. Also, you might want to define "strangest". Do you mean most public? For some of the conservative types, strangest might mean the kitchen. lol
  21. Michigan finally landed Sam McGuffie last week. If you haven't seen him on film, take the time to check this out. I'd recommend turning the sound way down or off, but spend a few minutes watching and see why Michigan fans are stoked about getting this RB out of Houston. He is doing all of this against Texas 5A competition.
  22. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 10:03 AM) http://indianaelite.com/News.aspx?HeadlineID=62 Tyler Zeller has cut his list to four: IU, UNC, ND, PU. Something has me doubting that Zeller is really as good as advertised, but I haven't seen him play myself. That said, if IU can pull this one off and actually get Zeller it would be a major coup, for the simple fact that 2 months ago he had close to zero interest in the Hoosiers.
  23. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 11:35 AM) Notre Dame would have done it by now IMO. They make the most sense of course, but that NBC deal is too appealing, plus their hoops team is always on ESPN due to their constant televising of Big East games so that seems unlikely. Louisville to me is the best and most realistic option. Either way, the Big 11 HAS to get a 12th team so they can go to the 2 division format and have a football conference title game. Those things just make too much darn money to not have one, and the 11 team system is pretty lame, as the league champion often depends on who you avoid on the schedule. And how would that be different with 12th team? Conferences with 12 teams do not play all other league teams, so division winners are heavily affected by the rotating schedule.
  24. QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 03:18 PM) LB Steve Filer commits to the Irish today. This is getting unreal and we actually need to start getting some offense commits! Definitely better hurry. Running out of available schollies.
