The Kentucky HS State Championsip is tonight at 7:00 central time. IU retruit Bud Mackey will play for Scott County in the game. The game is on down here, so I would think that some channel may have it where you guys are. If you can find it, it will be a nice chance to take a look at the first commitment for Indiana's 2008 class.

Falcons to trade QB Schaub to Texans
Help me out here......... I follow the NFL only casually and am not a fantasy guy, so my question is: Who the f*** is Matt Schaub and why is he even remotely close to worth two 1st round picks (plus swapping 1st round slots) and $48 million??? Where did he come from and what has he done? Unless there is something I am completely missing, this seems like the most absurd deal I have ever heard of. Somebody make some sense out of this for me, please??

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 02:40 PM) DeAndre Thomas is awful. This is based on what? From what I have seen he has pretty good feet for a big man. He has slimmed down some, with more to come. As much as Sampson preaches defense, there is no way he will be at IU completely out of shape. For him to be effective at IU, he will need to rebound, defend space in the middle and have a soft touch from 4 feet in. Regardless of what his attitude may have been like two years ago, he'll be fine for a two-year player. IU could have used a guy like him this year. And, as greasy said, none of this matters unless someone leaves the program. I'm sure someone will but his status has not changed since October. Anyone that follows IU knew he was standing in line waiting for a ticket to Bloomington.

Alford to New Mexico?
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 04:43 PM) Bruce Pearl isn't leaving Tenn for Iowa. That said if Alford goes I'd think we'd even consider making Neal the HC. I think we would have liked to have had the ISU coach and Iowa is the school he'd have preferred to go to (compared to ISU) but that is done now. I don't understand why Alford would rather go to New Mexico. He has a good contract at Iowa although I'm sure he knows he's in pretty deep right now. New Mexico isn't as bad a choice as some may think. They have a great arena, a good following (or at least the potential for one if he does a good job) and a great area to live in. Alburquerque is a gorgeous place. Iowa, well I have never been there, but being from IN I have seen my share of corn. The Sandia Mountains are gorgeous.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 09:59 AM) Sanjaya was absolutely hilarious. I almost burst out laughing during class just thinking about it. Gina was just awful--totally painful. I don't think she pronounced an entire word durign the whole song. I wan to pain i blaaaaaaaaaaaa. But I think Phil is going home tonight. Oh, and a note to Haley: wear a damn bra. In that shirt? Not possible. Nor recommended by most of us. C'mon Soxy, leave the little bit of eye candy we have this season alone for a few weeks. She won't win, but damn, can't we just keep her for another 2-3 weeks? Is that too much to ask?

The Midwest Bracket (St. Louis)
QUOTE(Jimbo @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 08:53 PM) I dont get it. In simple terms, downplaying your teams chances. Acting less confident than is realistically called for. That help?

Jimbo pulling out all the stops with his best Lou Holtz impersonation. Very impressive, Jimbo!

QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 10:28 AM) Beating a team with 20+ wins and the toughest schedule in the country isnt somebody? Nope. They haven't beaten anyone since the pre-conference season. There is no way they will be a #1 seed. No way. They just aren't good enough and haven't proven themselves. All they do it beat up on patsies. The Big 12 sucks, don't you know?`

Terrible NCAA year?
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 08:04 AM) Is it just me, or has this years Big Dance been incredibly boring? There have been no real big upsets, and there isn't a single double digit seed in the Sweet Sixteen. Besides the VCU game and the couple of OT games, there really wasn't even many close games. I don't know if it was the fact that only 6 mid majors made the tournament, or what, but this year has been way too predictable for the high seeds, and that really has my interest at about zero. At one point Saturday I was watching the Bulls instead of the tourney. Anyone else feel the same way? So I skipped three pages. Shoot me if this has already been said. There were many more than six mid-majors in the tournament. Only six were given at-large bids, but there were more than six overall. Compounding the issue is that some of the mid-majors (SIU, Butler, Nevada) were higher seeds than normal, lessening the chances of early round upsets. Add to that, Butler was matched up against Old Dominion, and Nevada against Creighton, pitting 4 teams that in normal years may have had a shot at upsetting one of the big boys. Saturday was a really fun day, until of course the Indiana-UCLA game started. Then all semblance of quality basketball stopped. It has lacked the excitement of some years, but I think a lot of that has been the way things were set up this year. I just don't think the matchups favored a lot of upsets early on. I have still enjoyed it, however.

Wisconsin was hurt by the loss of Brian Butch. They were not a fraud. And Kansas will win it all. FYI

QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 01:25 PM) Incredible game at the UC yesterday, and thats about as good as I've seen Kentucky play. Kansas just couldnt miss in the 2nd half, sending the legions of Jayhawk nation into a frenzy. This team is quickly becoming one of my favorite all-time Kansas teams, they are a clockwork machine right now....with themselves as the only way to stop it. Its very encouraging to know that even though Sherron was a bit off his game yesterday, and Arthur didnt really contribute at all, they were still able to easily plug pieces togehter and control the tempo (once there was one). All that being said, I'm speechless over the game that Julian Wright had. Have nothing but respect for this Saluki team, I've really enjoyed watching them play when I could this year. I'm looking forward to a great game and by no means taking SIU lightly. Kinda shocked the spread is a much is it is at 8.5, if that holds.... this will be the first time I dont go to the window with the Jayhawks in mind this March. ROCK CHALK & VIVA LAS VEGGGGGAS!!! How can Kansas be playing well, they haven't beaten anybody!

QUOTE(Sonik22 @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 04:26 PM) OMG tell me about it! We could have been up 30 and i still get nervous! Oh yeah, f*** CBS! Such bs that i have to watch the ends of two games that i don't give a s*** about! Then to make it worse they turn off our game with 3 minutes left! I want to watch my team play! GO DAWGS! SWEET SIXTEEN BABY! Go to a bar and quit whining. Your team won!

The West Bracket (San Jose)
The only way you are guaranteed to see the game you want is to go to a bar or pay for the DirecTV package or be directly in a team's market. If you are not getting the constant feed, they will switch back and forth. The only way you can get the constant feed is be in the right spot. Not sure how far SIU's area would reach to get the constant feed, but if you are in Chicago that's not going to be close enough. Now freakin relax, they have the game in hand. Congrats and smile a bit! A 15-pt win is a nice win. Bring on Kansas, eh?

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 12:09 PM) Spoke to a couple people in the know and Garcia wants to go to IU, but IU has other guys they are targeting ahead of him at this point. Phillip Jurick from Tennessee most notably who has IU and Tenn listed as co-leaders. I also spoke to someone who feels that Garcia is very raw and is slightly overrated by Rivals. Kyle Kuric, a junior from Evansville Memorial, is now getting major interest from IU. He's holding offers from Southern Illinois, Butler, Central Michigan, Evansville and Indiana State. IU and Purdue have yet to offer, but I've also heard that he is going to wait for an IU offer as long as he can because he really likes the Hoosiers. Both parents went to IU and word is Mom really wants him to go there. Memorial is my alma mater. I'd love to see him go to IU and if not, then Evansville would be a nice choice. I'm not sure how much interest he had in UE up to this point, but with the coaching change and Marty Simmons coming in, I would hope he'd have renewed interest in staying home should IU not be the right choice. I have not seen him, but have heard good things.

Hey guys, be sure to check out Angel Garcia from East Chicago Central also if you go. He is on IU's radar for the 2008 class and has mentioned IU prominently. Also, if you catch the 3A game, let me know what you think of Evansville Bosse. They have two mid-level D-I prospects in Cardell McFarland and Matt Lander. I'm curious to know what you guys think. Thanks and enjoy!

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 09:20 PM) Its an offensive slugfest betwen UCLA and Indiana, one to rival the Tennessee game from the 1st round!! OK maybe not, but god is it an ugly one. It's offensive, alright

This is the game from hell period. I have seen ugly basketball, but never this ugly. I don't even know what else to say....

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 09:00 AM) Well, odds are that IL won't make the NCAA tournament next season (#7 recruiting class in the conference after a #6 finish this year). I don't know what to think. Wins and losses actually bother me less than the offcourt incidents and the appearance of a program that is out of control and ethically bankrupt. If they can somehow improve on that, I won't care if they finish 8th in the Big Ten next season. So basically you are saying Win damnit, ethics be damned!

College baseball?
Basically Big Ten baseball sucks. The weather just puts them at way too big of a disadvantage against SEC, ACC and teams from conferences in the West. A perfect example.... My freshman year in college (I played at Evansville) we had practiced outside for all of about 2 1/2 weeks. We opened the season with two wins over Austin Peay (one at their place, one at ours). We then left on our Spring Trip, stopping in Atlanta to play Georgia Tech on the way. We get there and on the marquee outside the stadium it said... Baseball Today #2 Yellow Jackets (17-0) vs. Evansville Needless to say we left town at 2-2 and GA Tech at 19-0.

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 04:36 PM) Damn you Nevada!! Perfect region bracket will have to wait until 2008, unless Florida and Arizona hold up in the Midwest... I was in the same boat. Creighton cost me a nice looking region.

The Midwest Bracket (St. Louis)
QUOTE(Capn12 @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 02:57 PM) Wisconsin shooting 16% from the field...holy hell. And its not like they can come from behind with huge point outbursts. I think 57 points in the 2nd half would qualify as coming from behind with huge point outbursts, Capn.
-
The South Bracket (San Antonio)
Creighton not giving up after falling behind in OT. Funk buries a 3 to keep it within reach. By the way, count me in as one who doesn't like the format of splitting all the different regions into separate threads. I hate having to stop and start and stop and start to post comments about different games.

The Midwest Bracket (St. Louis)
Where does the idea that Wisconsin can't score come from? They have barely 10 points in the first 15-16 minutes of the game, yet they will finish with more than 70. This is not your old time Wisconsin type team.
