Your Final Four......
QUOTE(Jimbo @ Mar 1, 2007 -> 04:24 PM) I am worried about 2+ teams in the nation Ohio State, UCLA and anyone who starts with B. as in Badgers?? Considering you listed the Buckeyes and the Bruins, you must really be scared of that letter. Better stay away from the Butler Bulldogs.

hotel question
QUOTE(bmags @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 11:40 PM) these are PM times then? Yes. They will release rooms at 6pm. Just call the hotel that day and ask if there will be that possibility. They won't make you any promises, but it's worth a shot.

American Idol
It will be a crime if Sanjaya stays. He is easily the worst and was TERRIBLE last night. I'd like to see Sundance stick around for a few more weeks to see what he can really do. I could see Nick get voted off this week. He kinds of blends in. In general the guys were much better last night.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Feb 28, 2007 -> 05:20 PM) Kansas can be in the West and still have their round played in Chicago. If you didnt notice Wisconsin was moved from the Midwest to the South, but still is playing in Chicago. The name of the bracket has nothing to do with where they are actually being played anymore. Which confuses the living s*** out of me. I hated that change. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Feb 28, 2007 -> 05:34 PM) Does anyone know what the reasoning for switching from the city names to the geographic names? They just started using cities a few years ago. Because of the change in the way they do the first couple rounds. It all came about after 91 to make teams travel less. It gets confusing when they are saying we are here in Cincinnati for a West Region first round game between Ohio State and Crappy U.

HD TV Question
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 10:31 AM) Umm if by listening to the wrong people you mean, people who work with TV's everyday or seeing what happens to them myself from when a friend buys one......On my friends plasma the ESPN logo is burned in at the bottom right and images of video games he plays have burns ins on the screen too. The only game that I know of that will cause absolutely no burn in unless you play for an insane amount of time is Gears of War. Thats because in that game no image stays on the screen for long periods of time. Anyways his tv got a lot of burn in from games and he played a lot but he never left the tv on when he wasnt there or fell asleep with it on. They have made improvements from when they first came out but.... burn in still happens and even though it fades some if you look for it you can still see it on the screen. I guess experiences vary. I have two plasmas and play PlayStation a lot. No problems from burn in on mine. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 04:19 PM) Check out www.avsforum.com for more than you'd ever want to know about hi-fi audio and video. I'm a big fan of AVS. I follow a local thread daily and periodically check their HD Programming threads. Aside from threads on specific models on A/V, you can find any info you need on antennas and local reception.

hotel question
Definitely keep checking back. In a worst case scenario, you can almost always get a room same day. Show up at a hotel between 5:30 and 6:00. Hotels almost always have unsecured reservations they will release at 6:00. Several years ago during Spring Training, there were no rooms available in Tucson. My buddy and I showed up at 5:45 and by 6:05 were booking a room for the night. There were three other people doing the same thing and they all got rooms too. It's inconvenient and not guaranteed (you may want to call the hotel and ask them that afternoon what your chances are), but for a last ditch effort it works.

Tenative Knights Roster?
QUOTE(MnSoxFan @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 12:56 PM) Jeez, if teams could just figure out the guys who want it vs the guys who do not, seems like these kind of tendencies could be figured out with some of the tests they have to take, but I guess people can BS those tests too. Thanks for the info, I had not heard that one before. That's the problem when you are dealing with 18-22 yr old kids. Most of them have always been the best players on their respective teams and basically had things handed to them. It's hard to tell who really knows how to work and why hard work is necessary, when their talents have mostly gotten them to the point where they are at that point. And even if you find a kid who works pretty hard, you never know how the kid is going to react to girls, money, freedom, etc. When you draft a high school kid in the first round you are basically turning loose a kid from his parents, putting a million dollars in his hand and putting him in a situation where girls throw themselves at him. While that doesn't sound bad if it happens to you, there are so many things (and I haven't even mentioned alcohol and pot) that can make a kid lose focus. Add an injury and you take the game they are so used to playing away from them and give them even more free time. Some will use it to get back as quickly and as strong as possible and others will stray. Until you throw a kid into those situations, you never know he even the most grounded kid will react.

Tenative Knights Roster?
QUOTE(MnSoxFan @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 08:22 PM) Stumm was lazy? Yeah. Nice guy, but just wasn't impressed with him. I recall a conversation he had with the trainer not long after he came up to AA. The trainer told him he needed to be in early for treatment the next day and his response was "Yeah right, I'm not getting out of bed before 1:00". The trainer just shook his head and shot me a look. That, combined with a few other tidbits, were all I needed to know.

Home Crowd Advantage
The crowds are closest to the action in basketball. The arenas are smaller and the crowds are right on top of you, so to speak. Basketball is also fast paced, prone to heavy momentum swings. The crowd can most certainly affect those swings more so than an any other sport. While fans at soccer games may be crazy, there is no comparison. Soccer would be more comparable to a playoff baseball game. Not enough people even care about hockey, so that shouldn't even be a part of the discussion.

The Official Official Thread & Poll
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 25, 2007 -> 05:17 PM) I'm pretty sure he was not speaking of specific teams with these referees so a list would be pointless. Just some that like home cookin'. Thanks for playing, but his post was a direct reply to the question "Does anyone think the refs favor their favorite team?". If that's what he meant, he is certainly welcome to defend himself, but that is certainly not how he made his post. Anyone that has ever officiated at a reasonably high level knows officials do not make calls to help certain teams. In most situations, the game/play is happening to fast to be able to see what is happening and make a call as quickly as necessary and allow the color of the uniforms players are wearing to be involved in that decision making process. That said, officials are human and they can be affected by certain things. There is no doubt, even at higher levels, crowds can raise the energy in an atmosphere which can affect the decision making process. Fatigue, coaches screaming in their ears, players with attitudes, the pace of the game, etc. can all affect a specific decision. But officials that continuously work college basketball games, year in and year out, are not making calls to favor a specific team. There is no way they would last. The same goes for other sports at high levels.

Like I have said before, rushing the court has become a cool thing to do and doesn't really mean anything anymore. As much as I hate to say it, other conferences need to follow the lead set by the SEC a few years ago. They now levy fines against any school in which the students rush the court/field. Vanderbilt got hit with a $25k fine earlier. I know South Carolina also has gotten hit. It's more of a fad than a celebration now. Kinda sad for us old-timers.

QUOTE(G&T @ Feb 25, 2007 -> 12:55 PM) No, but you would have to watch it on your computer unless you have a way to connect the computer to a tv. I went to itunes.com and was a bit confused. Do you have to download their software to get their stuff?

Tenative Knights Roster?
QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Feb 25, 2007 -> 03:15 PM) I can't believe Kris Honel is still around. That guy was a prospect along time ago wasn't he? Also, whatever happened to Jason Stumm? Honel has been hurt and has bounced around trying to make it back. The same could be said for Stumm, except he's done because he was too lazy to work hard enough.

The Official Official Thread & Poll
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 05:50 PM) There are clearly some refs who do and some refs who don't. You usually just only notice the ones who don't. Clearly? If that is the case, then you must know the favorite teams of all the referees. So tell us, which is the favorite team of the following referees: Steve Welmer Ted Valentine Ed Hightower Mike Sanzere Bruce Benedict Verne Harris Ted Hillary Doug Sirmons Jim Burr Donnee Gray J.D. Collins John Moore Paul Janssen Winston Stith Jamie Luckie Tim Nestor Gary Maxwell That list ought to keep you busy for a little while. Well, not too long if it is CLEAR they favor their favorites.

American Idol
QUOTE(Soxy @ Feb 25, 2007 -> 10:39 AM) Didn't they get rid of a contestant who had some topless pictures of her floating around. This sounds waaaaaay more extremem than that. They did about 4 years ago. From what I read, she had told them about the pictures beforehand and they let her go on, which made some believe that possibly a sponsor objected and caused Idol producers to change their tune. This was before Idol had taken off into the phenomenon that it now is. Who knows how they will handle things now? I guess we shall see soon. If they leave her in, I'm going to vote for her now. LOL

IU will finish 3rd in the Big Ten, or at least tied for it. IU's win over Wisconsin will give them them 3rd seed in the Big Ten Tournament. Let's not be fooled by Illinois' 1/2 game lead right now.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 24, 2007 -> 09:45 PM) I would not agree at all. Especially when we are talking about a Bill Self Kansas team. They've been Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde over these last few years and there hasn't been much to suggest that this year is any different. But that's the whole point. Any decent team would be under the category of "playing well" if they played Kansas' schedule. Doesn't change the fact that they haven't won a big game since December. One of the most telling thing about an elite team is their record vs. the upper echelon of teams(of RPI top 50 for short). The NCAA championships prove this. Kansas is just 3-2 in that category this year. And the fact that they've only had 5 of those games basically means their untested at this point. So Ohio State beating Penn St by two and eight points in their last three games means what? Penn St. is worse than all of the teams Kansas has blown out in the past few weeks. The point is, actually, you don't have a clue what you are arguing. You keep posting stats about what Kansas has done this year, which means absolutely NOTHING in terms of how they are playing right now. I could care less what they did or did not do in December. If you watch Kansas right now, you can see they are playing very well. If you can't see that, then you are just an idiot. If you want to keep arguing with points that are not related, go ahead and talk to yourself. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Feb 24, 2007 -> 09:49 PM) Kansas became a whole new team when Sherron Collins was used more than 5 minutes a game(Texas A&M Game) The early season was just blah, now is a full head of steam monster. Ill say it now, and ill kick myself for saying it later...this is the best kansas team since the 03 team. insert foot now. Can't be Jimbo, they are only 3-2 against the RPI Top 50. They have to be an unproven average team because of that stat and that stat only. Don't you know anything about basketball, geez?

I don't like the lineup in the game right now. Suhr, Stemler are not offensive threats. DJ White has been non-existent on that end of the floor and Wilmont has been quiet tonight.

Keeling and Shaw are foul machines. I don't think it is possible for either to enter a game and not commit a foul within a minute. MSU within two. Shaw needs to sit his ass on the bench. He is out of control with too many fouls and unforced turnovers. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 24, 2007 -> 09:32 PM) I get your point for the most part. But everyone kills Colorado. They are one of the worst teams in the country, not just one of the worst major conference teams. New Mexico beat them by 41. They lost to NC Wilmington who is 3-14 in the colonial by 12 pts. Colorado would struggle against a good HS team. Sure, but this conversation isn't about one win. Wasn't from the beginning.

Not to me. They are playing well and destroying teams. The things they are doing against the Colorado's and Iowa State's would translate against better teams. No one is handing them the NCAA Championship, but they aren't struggling to beat teams they should beat. They are heading in the direction they need to be heading into March. It doesn't take a degree in rocket science to tell who is playing well and who is not if you simply watch games.
