QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 11:00 PM) BTW, a great line > great secondary EVERY day. It all begins and ends with the lines. someone else who understands what order the dominoes fall.

QUOTE (Soxpranos @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 08:33 PM) You need good players that are able to execute, be it D line , linebackers and secondary. The game has evolved to more of a scheme game rather than individual or a certain cog of a defense. You really need everybody to be on the same page and execute. I have been fortunate to see some of the best Qb's play in person.. Marino, Elway, Montana and Kelly. I seen it when either one of these guys torched good d lines and torched good secondarys. but the fact in all of this , was that no matter how great these guys were, the Defense that had the better scheme always found a way to beat these greats, and it was not the team with the better D-line or secondary but scheme (A full team effort). Your argument still lacks substance. A dominant defensive tackle can have an enormous impact stuffing the run. Yet, the major part of his contribution is to tie up inside blockers so they can't lend a hand blocking ends rushing from the outside. A middle linebacker tends to have more room to operate if he's working behind an exceptional defensive end drawing blocking to the outside. A cornerback and a safety can suddenly become more effective in coverage if he has the help of a defensive end applying strong pressure on the passer.

QUOTE (Soxpranos @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 08:19 PM) 1 game makes you point correct? The Giants secondary played a hell of a game as well. If you watched closely, the Giants took advantage of a poor technique guard , the Patriots coaches lost that game not correcting that problem. I would say the Panther D-line was far superior than the Giants line of 07'. It all comes down to schemes and execution. Reason why more teams are running the 3-4 now do to the confusion the outside rushers cause, them being linebackers. But saying a D line is better than a good secondary is still preposterous. How ironic you say that when you just tried to make your point based on 1 game. I stand by my statement. It all starts at the line.
-
QUOTE (Soxpranos @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 07:59 PM) Tell that to the Panthers when they played in the Super Bowl. The screen and other quick hitting plays counter your theory. Teams don't sit in the pocket for more than 3 seconds , and if they do that's because the secondary has done a great job in covering. Yes a good D-line helps but saying its better than a good secondary is preposterous. what does screen plays have to do with the secondary? Talk about taking a left hand turn on this road of conversation. Ask Tom Brady and the 07 Pats what defensive line pressure does to your game.

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 06:10 PM) You can save your disagreeing with me for when our secondary gets burned game after game by Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, Calvin Johnson, Bernard Berrian, Percy Harvin, TJ Houshmanzedeh, Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes, Roddy White, Chad Ochocinco, Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin, Jeremy Maclin, Michael Crabtree etc. your logic is like having the best WR without a decent QB getting him the ball. It all starts at the line. Defensive line pressure > Secondary You can make it with a s***ty secondary if the qb has no time to throw, on the contrary, you can have an all pro secondary get burned if you have no pressure up front with the qb having 5-15 secs to throw a pass.
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 05:29 PM) I don't understand how two low round DEs help our horrible secondary. They should have drafted more DBs. Better DEs = Better Pass Rush= More Pressure= less time for the QB to make decisions= Less pressure on the secondary That on top of giving Marinelli weapons is why I would highly disagree with you.

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 05:15 PM) Not really a big fan of our draft, figured since we traded so far down would gamble and take best talent available and doesnt seem the Bears went that route. from walter football http://walterfootball.com/offseason2009chi.php [/size]

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 24, 2009 -> 11:40 PM) How long are their contracts? Let's just say we just keep re-signing them. Don't worry about cap space, we would just go over the luxury tax if they are both locked in. Old vets like Vince Carter, Tmac come and go but take enormous pay cut's for a final chance at rings. (kind of like the NE Pats)

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 09:07 PM) Tell me how many teams win titles with a 6-3 shooting guard that doesn't get to the rim all that well. I like BG as instant offense off the bench. I like BG if the price is right. But I don't want the Bulls to tie up a ton of money in a guy who, in my opinion, is not going to bring an NBA title to Chicago as your starting SG. AI would have had a great chance in 2001 if he had Drose in his prime next to him.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 09:36 PM) They were saying on CTL that they believe he is asking for Kobe money..... stop buying into the garbage Chicago media train. Suntimes, Trib,WGN, Comcast etc That's where all the BG hate started. It will be refreshing when I see people start thinking on their own rather than buying into all these media opinions.

I'm not going to argue with you guys, because I know I am in the minority here, but I agree with the OP. Not many Bull fans appreciate him for what he is worth. All you need to do is browse other team forums to see the praise BG gets. My prediction is he will sign with Toronto, and THEN he will get the respect he deserves from Chicago fans. It will be a bittersweet moment in my eyes, happy for Ben, sad for the organization.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 02:31 PM) His biceps are absolutely gargantuan, he was already probably the biggest (non-fatty) player in baseball and he's only getting larger with age. I can only imagine how big his ass is these days. Last I heard , he was very close to playing shape.

I'm calling the cops on everyone in this thread.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 12:18 PM) The wrong has been righted. No wonder we thought it a passable idea at the time, seeing as we each drank the equivolent of 12 beers in the span of the Blackhawks game. I'll never do that again. That's awesome of you to fix that.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 09:51 PM) Noah and Miller were worthless. you obviously didn't watch the game.

DBAHO, wherever you are, I feel your pain. I think being a Chicago fan could be rough, but the last 10 years have not been too kind to the Cowboys and Magic. I see good futures for both your teams though.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 01:52 PM) Memphis should not be in the discussion for a major league team. I'd put about 10 metro areas ahead of it. Memphis is a basketball town and can't even support their NBA team, its one of the poorest large cities in the country, high crime, rainy weather, and a fan base already very attached to one team (Cards). You want a team in Tennessee / Mid-South, the clear choice is Nashville - same size city but much better in pretty much every respect for a predictor of MLB success. In any case, I think expansion is a bad idea - too much dilution already. And the cities that I think deserve the most consideration for a team (moved or expanded) outside of Florida, in order, would be: Charlotte / Carolinas San Juan, PR San Antonio / McAllen Albuquerque / Santa Fe Portland Nashville I think we may be in for a major cold spell in terms of cities receiving expansion teams. On the contrary, you will see more re-locations. I felt pretty bad for Browns,Oilers and now Sonics fans.
