Official 2008-2009 NHL Thread
rangercal replied to whitesoxbrian's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I could probably only name 10 Hawks players from the top of my head... I'm not one of you hardcore fans, but it is cool as f*** to see them winning. Hopefully they go all the way. -

Swisher is currently PITCHING for the Yanks

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 03:26 PM) .261/.469/.435/.904 w/ 1 HR & 9 walks through his first 32 PA last year and .269/.457/.538/.996 through 35 PA, it was only downhill from there. 10 games later his OPS dipped below .800 and wouldn't reach that mark again for the remainder of the season. Ok, I remember a horrible May that would make anyone forget about his expected numbers he put up in April. -

QUOTE (lord chas @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 02:16 PM) swish will come back to earth. he was great in his first couple weeks with us and we saw how that turned out He was?! -
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 01:29 PM) I'm not saying the Celtics will roll, but it's not like they're totally screwed now that Garnett is out either. They still have a very good perimeter trio that can light up the Bulls' highly suspect perimeter D, and it's not like you need to be a superstar to get buckets inside either. I'd still take the Celtics in 6, they Bulls either need Rose to go into superstar mode or Tyrus and Noah have to have a decided edge inside in the majority of the games (I can really only see that happening in about 3 since neither can really create their own shot). Gotta agree with everything you said here.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) Rondo is a better defensive PG than Rose at this stage of there careers, and I don't know if Rose can keep up with Rondo. I think the Bulls may have to use Hinrich quite a bit in this series. Well Rose doesn't have to worry about shutting down Rondo. Rondo shuts down him self on offense. Sure, he has a good fg%, but he does not seem comfortable in being a scorer (even without kg). Might as well send his ass to the FT line too, that is his biggest weakness. Make Rondo score, double team Pierce most of the game and let some of the 4-8 players stop us. Obviously, I left out Allen. I think he may be a problem. Just not for 7 straight games, but enough for the Celts to win in 6. Oh, and here is Rondo trying to shut down Rose http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyClJY0qSF4

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 01:27 PM) Well, Swisher is the new clean-up hitter for the Yankees. Yet he couldn't start over DeWayne Wise over the last month for the White Sox. The Yankees must be getting really desperate. Are you kidding with this post? Swisher is one of the hottest players in baseball. They are going to ride his hot bat until it cools down. I don't think they are desperate by any means. -
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 01:17 PM) The difference is that the guards on the Celtics actually play some defense, which shifts things in their favor. Rondo and Allen could easily get 40 a game (combined obviously) in the series, especially since they will be getting more minutes than in the regular season. The last 10 games have not been the Celts best effort on D. I would say KG has a little to do with that. Their collective defense takes a major hit as well as their offense. The series is not as lopsided as some would suggest.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 12:45 PM) This thread is going to be adorable when Swish finishes the year hitting about .246, with 28 homers, 88 RBI's and a .356 OPB. And it will be even more adorable if he finishes .278 with 38 homers, 118 RBI's and a .376 OBP -
I challenge you to compare Rose and Rondo , and Gordon and Allen. http://www.nba.com/playerfile/ben_gordon/ http://www.nba.com/playerfile/derrick_rose/ Use the Yellow Box in the profiles to compare them with Allen and Rondo. and if you really have time on your hands, look at the splits on Rondo and Allen, before and after KG got hurt. The Celts are a 16-8 team without KG. The Bulls are 15-8 in their last 23 .

Talk to me after a few games in the series Steve, I stand by my post.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 12:23 PM) This is shaping up to be the least competitive playoffs ever. The Lakers can basically sleepwalk to the finals. And with it looking like Garnett will be out, the Cavs can do the same thing. Kobe vs Lebron in the finals. You know Stern and co are busting leaks in their shorts with this almost certain happening. I am too, to be honest. I would love to see that matchup.

Rondo Allen=Gordon Pierce > Salmons Tyrus Thomas ,Noah,Hinrich,Miller,Tim Thomas >> Perkins,House,Davis,Powe,Marbury,Allen,Moore
-
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 11:38 AM) John Salmons needs to lock down Paul Pierce, can't say that enough. I see Boston winning in 5 though. Don't think the Bulls can stop all of Rondo, Allen and Pierce, and they don't have a low post scorer to exploit no Garnett. I see your Rondo, Allen and Pierce and raise you Rose,Gordon,Salmons

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 10:58 PM) Well that kinda sucks. I feel like messing up a couch like Rick James now.

So Cleveland's main goal is to win a championship. That's obvious. That's why MB decided to bench all his starters. but what if... and I realize this is highly unlikely..... what if Cleveland's intention was to have a hand in Bos playing the Bulls. I could think of many reasons why Cle would want Boston to play the bulls rather than philly. Just something to think about. I'm bored.

QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 10:32 PM) ranger - i see overtime for philly game, doesnt that game determine it for us? EDIt: I see, lol Yes Phi loses we get Orl, they win, we get Bos.

LOL spoke to soon!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 10:19 PM) And like I said...it's not Howard putting up 20/10 that worries me. It's him putting up games like what Bosh just did. We won't have to worry about Howard now. It's gonna be pretty cool to see how the Young Bulls play with the Big 3. at least Cle is out the record books one less time. Pretty cool.
