QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 6, 2009 -> 10:09 AM) WHOA!!! The media talked about it! You'll notice he didn't wind up being the main chip in an Amare deal... so that means absolutely nothing. No one said he COULDN'T IMPROVE. What we say is, he has the basketball IQ of a dump truck and for every good game (Game 1) he has 6 bad/ineffective games where he cannot be trusted. Steve Kerr never denied the Tyrus talks.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ May 6, 2009 -> 10:06 AM) That's an amazingly retarded argument since LaMarcus Aldridge is only about a year older than Tyrus. Way to compare him to two high schoolers too, Lewis was 21 in his first good season and O'Neal turned 22 right at the beginning of his first year with Indiana. Tyrus turns 23 in August, so he's already behind them. It's not retarded. Some players are late bloomers and some are not. Sometimes the late bloomers end up being the better final product. Quit letting your tyrus hatred stoop yourself so low. You are better than that. I'm trying to talk to you as a basketball fan. Tyrus is 22 , is not a finished product and did show improvement this year. Stop ignoring the facts.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 6, 2009 -> 10:03 AM) The sky isn't falling... Derrick Rose assures us of that; but if you think Tyrus will ever be much more than what we've seen, you're kidding yourself. No I'm not. Because all the negative fans with no factual arguments said the same thing last year, and they were wrong. Tyrus did improve. So much so, that he was being discussed as the main trade chip by all media outlets for AMARE.

Swift at some serious personal problems he had to deal with. But you can't put that into the equation, right Zoom?

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ May 6, 2009 -> 09:57 AM) Yeah, why in god's name would we want the guy that's averaging about 18-8 on a better team... Thank god they got lucky with Rose, otherwise it'd be ugly. Because players like Jermaine O'neal and Rashard Lewis never developed a little later? Right? For better or worse, NO one knows what the final product of Tyrus will be.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 6, 2009 -> 09:56 AM) ...and AJ with the canned, homer remark. I'm living fine with it... but it was still one of the bigger f***ups in NBA drafting history... ... and steve playing the role as the premature chicken little. Tyrus is 22 years old. I don't know how you can analyze that trade in full detail at the moment.
-
I can live with that trade. For the people who can't, time to get over it.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 5, 2009 -> 08:57 PM) Tyrus Thomas is not a good f***ing basketball player. /thread f***in a people. I don't know what makes me hate Tyrus more, his inability to be a good, consistent NBA basketball player or his ridiculous fans who think he can be Kevin Garnett with more minutes. slow down now. I wouldn't go that far. What is your definition of good? Tyrus is a very good basketball player. He blocks shots, rebounds well, gets plenty of steals,is a pretty good free throw shooter and does not have a horrible overall fg%. He does make some glaring mistakes though, but less this year than ever before. So I can see further improvement on someone who is 22 years old, fills up a stat sheet and has obvious ability. I do have my doubts with him, though any team in the league would find a roster spot for Tyrus for the right price. If he can't be a major piece in a deal for Amare or Bosh, I would want to definitely keep him.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ May 5, 2009 -> 03:56 PM) Rodgers > Cutler And I'm a Bears fan. I can honestly tell you, I would not trade Cutler straight up for Rodgers.

Neil Funk/Stacey King Appreciation
rangercal replied to daa84's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I'll appreciate Funk if he stops sucking at his job. -
QUOTE (chw42 @ May 4, 2009 -> 01:47 PM) I to, would rather have Bosh than Wade. Rose and Wade would be one of the best backcourts in the next 5 or so years, but we'd still be stuck with Tyrus Thomas and Joakim Noah down low. Blech. Noah is the 2nd most important player on the roster. No way is he "blech" to me. Tyrus on the other hand... I am starting to have my doubts.

QUOTE (danman31 @ May 2, 2009 -> 06:09 AM) I didn't say Hughes is as good as Salmons. I just said they both have terrible shot selection and don't pass the ball. Hughes shot 40% this year, Salmons 47%. If you would have read what I said you would have got this instead of blanketing the fact that I compared them. I just said they both have terrible shot selection. I still don't see how you can call a 47% shooter a terrible shot selector. I hope Salmons continues to take terrible shots at a 47% clip.
-
QUOTE (danman31 @ May 1, 2009 -> 05:55 PM) I only compared their shot selection and I stand by that. Salmons doesn't pass the ball. It's just that his shot goes in more often than Hughes' does. That is a stupid comparison PERIOD. You can not compare players that are almost 10 percentage points apart in fg%. John Salmons has a better 3 pt% than Larry Hughes has fg%. FG % could mean the difference between NBA and CBA. Does completion % matter to you in football? How about Era in baseball? Maybe if you compare the two, you should really clarify yourself. QUOTE (danman31 @ May 1, 2009 -> 05:55 PM) Stupid argument. The level of excitement is unmatched. The round it took place in has nothing to do with that. Again, why does that matter? I don't buy that there is more at stake. One team is going home regardless. When it's this close, that's a very real possibility for either so it's not like the players would try harder if it was the finals. Where do you draw the line? If these games happened during the regular season, would it matter less or the same? This is a pointless argument because everyone has a different opinion, and guess what? No one is right or wrong.

QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ May 1, 2009 -> 10:51 PM) lol It would be funny if it were true. If Rose was going to the lane at will he would not be turning it over so much.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 1, 2009 -> 03:25 PM) Who the hell thinks that not even a classic for the first round? 5% I guess. Probably the same % of people who ate paint chips at some point in their life.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 1, 2009 -> 12:42 PM) If the Celts had won that game I'd bet just about anything he's out for game 1 against the magic. no doubt in my mind.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 1, 2009 -> 12:38 PM) Well, just count the total number of plays from all sports yesterday and 3/4 of them had to come from that game right? you may be right, but 3 ots or not , there were still 2 other NBA games, 8 baseball games and the hockey game. Not to mention Golf and all the filler crap espn throws in every once in a while ( things that are not even a sport).
-
I agree Balta. I actually thought of the same comparison. The bulls fan in me wants Rondo to get 1 game, the basketball fan in me would not mind if the NBA overlooked it, the logical side of me knows that Rondo should get 1 game, the realist in me realizes the NBA will not punish Rondo.
-
5 of Espn's top 10 plays of the day were from the game. lol
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 1, 2009 -> 12:02 PM) Really, this needs Swirsky's call. If you haven't heard it, find a way to. ESPN actually ran it over that highlight. I heard it. Classic.
