  1. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 03:36 PM) What the f***. Man, I loved Sergio. Getting only one player for him is a failure. And Buehrle leaving free agency? f*** it. I'm off the KW train. But blow the f***ing team up. Blow it the f*** up. But seriously, Molina looks good. But what the f***? Needed something else. Pretty sure the KW train derailed about 3 years ago.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 02:40 PM) Will agree to disagree on Dunn. I expect nothing from him next year. I know how good Fister was. That's my point. He's the Tigers #3 starter. He'd probably be our ace. I hope you're right about Sale, obviously. But I'm realistic. He's more than likely going to be up and down in '12. Dunn is obviously a question mark, we are just on two different sides of the wait and see approach. Fister only has 2 seasons of MLB ball under him, I would give him a little more time to anoint him a possible Ace for any staff. Of course Verlander makes any staff that much tougher. Surprisingly enough Det's major weakness last season was their pitching. Offensively they were much stronger and IMO they have some regression candidates.
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 02:34 PM) What is it about the team that shouts first in the AL Central? The Tigers aren't going anywhere and will remain incredibly strong. Couple that with the Wild Card routinely going to the AL East, and all the sudden 2nd - 5th in the AL Central don't really matter. I dont think the Tigers are "incredibly strong" at all. And I think the Sox have enough as it stands right now to compete in the division. It is the CONSENSUS on this board that this was an underachieving team last season correct? Well, what if under a new voice in the clubhouse that they actually played up to their ability? Here is what the Tigers trotted out this year, and obviously some of them are gone like Maggs: http://espn.go.com/mlb/team/lineup/_/name/det/detroit-tigers
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 02:32 PM) There are off years, and then there's Adam Dunn's 2011. He just whiffed three times looking as I typed that. Honestly, I'd rather have Doug Fister over anybody outside of maybe Danks in that possible rotation for 2012. Yes, but based on his ENTIRE career that was a complete outlier. All signs and basic math point to that not happening again. Second, Doug Fister was exceptional last season. I would take him over Peavy and Humber in a heartbeat. I still think Sale is a future Ace.
  5. Jesus, thank god we arent out there offering 10 year contracts. There is no way that works out in the end.
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 02:25 PM) Dunn's track record means nothing going into next year. The worst single-season in modern baseball history evaporated his track record. He has to prove himself all over again. Assuming Mark is gone, I don't think we have anywhere near a playoff caliber rotation. I disagree, his track record still means quite a bit and makes last year look like an outlier as opposed to the norm. Basic statistics would probably back that up. Second: 1. Danks 2. Floyd 3. Humber 4. Peavy 5. Sale Doesnt look like it could make the playoffs for us in the ALC? I think its a good rotation and could be better if Sale projects like I think he will.
  7. QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 01:48 PM) To Play for a team that isn't going to contend? What is it about this team that shouts bottom of the AL Central? Every team in our division is incredibly flawed. Couple that with not moving your family, having no trade rights and retiring after this last contact. Yes.
  8. And KW is apparently trying to make my other post talking about the trades look completely false. At the moment Buehrle is gone and Danks and Floyd are beginning to look like deadline trades.
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 02:05 PM) OK, 75 games. I've given up on Rios and Peavy. Adam Dunn is basically a rookie starting over next year. Mark's all but gone. It's going to be ugly next year. Dunn has many year of MLB production as his track record and he's a rookie how again? And at the moment our rotation and lineup are good enough to compete and win the ALC.
  10. Yeah, rival scouts have different opinions. I'm sure some of our scouts dont like him either. Scouts are about as accurate as weather men. Its still a crap shoot.
  11. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 01:17 PM) Molina has had 5 years in the minors and has only 5 games at the AA level. It took him 4 and a half years to get out of A ball. mlbtraderumors.com huh? He's a converted position player. Thats why.
  12. On the Sergio front: i'll never forget his reaction when the team told him he finally made it to the majors, and his call to his father. Just awesome moments that you couldnt fake even if you tried.
  13. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 01:15 PM) Who was it that said trading Santos would send a negative message to players in the future looking to sign extensions here? lol. Classic "increase value" move apparently.
  14. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 01:00 PM) KW claims with Thornton, Crain and Reed he could trade Santos, sounds like KW not trading him now to me. Thornton is too expensive to keep and we have some younger cheaper lefties waiting in the wings. He should be as good as gone.
  15. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 12:53 PM) Thats what I meant...I got Addison Reed mixed up with Dylan Axelrod. Axelrod IMO should contend for a rotation spot next season. I REALLY like his stuff.
  16. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 12:52 PM) Not that we'll have many games to close next year. ...but who slots into that role now? Dylan A? Addison Reed would be my inclination. 108 minor league innings with 155 k's 1.41 ERA .74 WHIP
  17. QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 12:49 PM) Are you saying re-signing Buehrle is contingent upon trading Floyd/Danks/CQ/Thornton or whoever else? I can't see Buehrle coming back to a rebuilding team. Re-signing Buehrle is contingent upon salary relief. If we cant unload salary we arent going to pay Buehrle.
  18. QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 12:35 PM) http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/story/_/id/...s-nestor-molina Not a surprise, but sad indeed... Sounds to me like the salary unloading is not going very well. Which means at least one of Floyd/Danks will be with the team this season.
  19. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 12:26 PM) A starting 2B, even a mediocre one, is harder to replace than a closer. Technically we already could have his replacement waiting, although probably mediocre.
  20. QUOTE (Mr. Showtime @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 12:25 PM) Even if Kenny isn't lying about not trading the starters now, they certainly have some offensive players and relievers they could move. Quentin and Thornton have to be the first out before anyone. Hopefully for some more pitching.
  21. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) Beckham straight up for him? I would take that over Sergio IMO. I get the feeling Beckham's value is at an all time low.
  22. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) I sure hope not. Let him develop. Lord knows rushing guys hasn't worked in the past. Especially if we are indeed rebuilding. Unless you consider Dan Hudson and Chris Sale things that havent worked, I would say moving guys through the system quickly has been a decent philosophy of late.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 12:22 PM) Rock, have you heard of any FA that the Sox might go after? Nope. Not really tuned into that. These last few weeks have been really dark outside of a few meetings that I heard about taking place between the FO and other teams.
  24. I hope Thornton is packing his bags as well. Get moving KW.
  25. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 12:18 PM) Can this organization develop the single A prospects that it acquires? He's a AA guy at this point. I am guessing they accelerate this guy to a debut late this year or next.
