Buehrle Signs with Marlins | 4 yrs $58 mil

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 06:08 PM) Greg, about 20 minutes ago, Dan Bernstein commented on his radio show here in Chicago (a show that usually has the most critical listeners) that he was shocked at how little the Sox fans cared about Buehrle leaving. Thats because we are a rudderless ship slowly drifting out to sea. -
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 03:57 PM) I thought Fielder to M's. Marlins are bidding on him. I dont see the Cubs pulling down anyone, that cant even afford to keep Carlos Pena.

QUOTE (JoshPR @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 05:58 PM) Are you guys kidding me??? Fighting and insulting one and another cause of a stupid baseball player? Really??? Some of you need to chiill out and get a life, mark is no longer with the sox, so face it the world ain't gonna end, there will be other favorites sooner than later, you tip you're cap to mark he was always classy in his 12 solid seasons, but he's gone and no insult is gonna make that change. GROW UP To be clear, I accept the guy left. But to insult the guys morals because all he has ever done is mention how much he loves it here and wants to stay here is uncalled for and wrong. All the guy wanted to do was retire a member of this club and his quotes support that unless you twist them to mean something else. Its maddening that the Sox had a shot at keeping him for less than he just got on the market and we just didnt even try. -

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 06:00 PM) When was the last time Jerry Reinsdorf "went cheap"? please, please, please answer this question. With any team? 1998 -
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 05:45 PM) I just hope he has a bunch more successful seasons so he can enter the HOF at the age of 92 with a Sox cap on Seconded. One of the best people to ever wear the Sox uni. He wanted nothing more than to end his career here and unfortunately mgmt had other ideas.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 05:51 PM) No, as Jim isn't a member of the board. There are no consequences for talking badly about a guy like him. I'm an active member, and personal attacks between active members are not allowed. Doesnt change the fact it was a douchebag thing to say. Not surprising though. -

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 05:37 PM) Take it sleazy, Rock. I'm not wasting my time sifting through articles and looking for quotes to support a subjective argument. Anything I came up with would be overlooked or twisted anyway. Blah blah blah. Enjoy your ivory tower bro. You can twist his words all you want to paint the guy in a bad light, he's twice the man you are. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 05:33 PM) Just want to add, according to multiple reports, after Marlins made the insane offer... Mark and agent contacted the Sox one more time to give them a chance to make a contending bid. KW said thanks, can't do it, good luck. They had their chances all year and a few days ago. KW apparently made up his mind. -

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 05:33 PM) All that needs is a soundtrack by Sting and it'd be a great movie. I'm done on the subject. You should be, you couldnt even support your viewpoint with his quotes in your black and white world. Judgmental internet saints like you are generally very different in real life, I hope for your sake you are as saintly as you expect your pro athletes to be. -

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 05:24 PM) Nobody reads the entire thread before posting. He can do all of those things, and it's good for him. That still doesn't stop him from being a hypocrite. In YOUR opinion based on YOUR interpretation of his statements. I interpret his statements as he wanted to stay with the Sox, close to his family, with the org he grew up with. The thought of him leaving was even making him contemplate retirement several times because he didnt want to face the uncertainty. Now as he faced free agency he was offer no contract by the White Sox, NONE. No other team close to home (Sl Louis) offered him s***. The Marlins came about, showed him love, showed him they cared and valued him and paid him well above market price. If you think thats hypocritical, then thats you. But I dont see it that way at all. I see a White Sox Organization that had a chance to extend and keep one of their most valuable players ever even before Free Agency and they told him to kick rocks and leave. Just like they've done in the past. Mark is one of the most stand up guys in major league baseball and he deserves every bit of what he just got. -
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 03:30 PM) DKnobler DKnobler White Sox truly willing to discuss trading anyone, although if someone wanted Konerko, it would require Reinsdorf intervention 27 seconds ago Favorite Retweet Reply At this point, I would ask Konerko if he truly wanted to stay. If he wants to stay where he is comfortable then so be it, otherwise its not fair to him to make him stick around during a full rebuild if thats where we are going.

And I know for me personally, I wouldnt pass on seemingly generational wealth that I could pass on to my children. If a team near his home actually offered him a contract then I would expect him to stick around, at this point none of them have. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 03:20 PM) Kerry Wood signed $1.5 million to stay in Chicago last season, when he could have gotten at least $10 mil in a multi-year deal from the Yanks or someone else. I dont recall anyone offering him 10 million dollars last season. Mark is one of the two top FA pitchers on the marketplace, he cant go and sign for league min somewhere. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 03:16 PM) CST_soxvan Daryl Van Schouwen Bosox said to be talking to Chisox about Gavin Floyd today. It's known Orioles, Gavin's hometown team, also among those interested in Gavin They can have him.

QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 02:54 PM) My source also said, that the Red Sox won't trade Middlebrooks or Brentz for 2 players with only 1 year contracts... Well Gavin Floyd is signed for more than 1 year.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 01:19 PM) I would like to add that had Joe Paterno or anyone else at Penn State actually cared about anything other than their precious football program, then "Victim 9" as linked in my previous post would never have been subjected to repeated rape and sexual abuse (2004-2008). OMG, Sandusky was arraigned in a freaking PSU track suit.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 01:13 PM) These things came out yearly, usually more than once. Everyone on this board knows it. So I doubt the articles you posted were the only ones available, as there should be at least a dozen more. And like I said, I don't care nearly enough to find them. Neither side is going to budge. Some think he's a hypocrite depending on where and how he signs, others do not. We'll have to agree to disagree. I feel like I'm looking at it subjectively, whereas I'm sure you think you're doing the same. There's no concrete answer to be found, so this will go back and forth as long as we let it. I feel that he's definitely a hypocrite. You do not. Period. There are hundreds. Of course we can agree to disagree at this point. Part of being a hypocrite would be that Mark would turn down the opportunity to do what he has always said he wanted to do. Since there are no offers from the one team he wanted to stay with and none from teams near his hometown, he is stuck negotiating with teams that actually want him and appreciate him. That not hypocrisy, thats called job hunting. -
We will need this thread and I hope somehow Mark sees how much Sox fans have appreciated him throughout the years. He's been easily one of the best Sox of all time on the field and off.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 01:00 PM) On my phone, so I can't read it, but I'm going to guess it's fluff pieces. His other comments about retiring/being close to home/etc. are all still there. So perhaps that makes him even more of a hypocrite, in words and actions. No, they are the pieces where you got most of your "ammo" for calling him a hypocrite. They are pieces where he expresses that he may retire because he doesnt know if he's in the Sox plans. There are even some ones in there talking about how much he misses his family when he's away that you can use to say that he's a hypocrite. Just trying to actually help people see the rest of the information that you are speaking about to generate your opinion of him. -

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 12:53 PM) For a guy that loves to consider retirement every other month, it should be perfect. But not market value, just so we are clear. And I was doing some research for you since many have asked for links to quotes and you havent provided any of them. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2009-02...ily-guy-missing Its stories like this that make me think less of Mark.... http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2010-09...nt-mark-buehrle Guy sounds like he really doesnt care about staying with the Sox. http://blog.prorumors.com/2011/03/rumors/m...ent-after-2011/ -
QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 12:52 PM) He will probably serve it at some minimum security country club.... He most likely will. But make no mistake, its still jail and you still have no free will. WIth someone as entitled as Blago, it will break him.
