  1. Those remarks blaming Crede for that play were some of the most ridiculous statements from so called knowledgable baseball fans that I've ever seen.
  2. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 11:56 PM) Might I remind you he was facing a team that has the worst RISP avg in the league. It was hitting 125 w RISP, 2 Outs. It's now 077. It's now hitting 185 w RISP period. You can hardly call this team a fair mark to measure Santana's greatness. However I can say that for a team hitting 240 in RON sits to get 2-3R off him I would say he looks weaker than he did last Aug. Conversely opponents are hitting 261 vs WSox in RISP sits. Let's see how Santana does vs NYY (.239 RISP), BAL (289 RISP), TOR (350 RISP), CLE (222 RISP), BOS (234 RISP), DET (304 RISP), KCR (227 RISP), ANA (306 RISP). The WSox are 4-2 on the strength of quality starts, above avg pen work, timely hits & HRs. But you can't do that forever. At some point if you're not among the leaders in average w RISP the losses are going to come your way. You can see the teams that have that edge right now. Let's see how Santana does against them before we consider him Cy Young worthy again. I'd say the guy who currently holds the Cy Young award could be considered worthy.
  3. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 11:29 PM) For all you Santana is a can't miss Cy Young winner this year let me remind you that Randy Johnson now pitches for the Yankees. The team that usually leads the league in HR's & R. As long as he's healthy enough to pitch 30+ starts he's probably in line for the fewest losses & the most wins amongst all starters. I'm lying my $ down on The Big Unit. Go ahead & put yours down on Santana. We'll see who wins. What does that have to do with tonight's game. Santana is Cy Young quality pitcher and he pitched his way out of those innings despite the situational averages.
  4. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 11:23 PM) That's what I recalled hearing too Ditto
  5. QUOTE(El Piervizdyeguchansodnik @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 10:54 PM) Guarantee no one on the plane to Cleveland is going to pointing fingers at Joe or Mark. Not ONE single player. Instinct tells you to get the ball at any means possible. As an infielder your job is to not let that ball get past you, no matter what the situation is. What was Joe trying to do? Stop the ball. Obviously, you've never played competetive baseball. :headshake
  6. QUOTE(valponick @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 10:36 PM) Obviously going to be differing opinions on this, but as a player this is an incorrect play, bottom line, as a fan it might seem correct. Just fed up with Crede is all, I would be happy to see a change, we could do alot better at 3B. No it is not an incorrect play ... it's the instinct that's been driven into him from the time he was a little leaguer.
  7. QUOTE(valponick @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 10:34 PM) You've obviously never played competitive baseball, because that is completely wrong. What the f*** are you talking about? You always always always try and keep the ball in the infield. It's one of the most basic things in baseball.
  8. From the time a kid steps onto a ballfield he is taught knock it down, get in front of the ball, don't let the ball get by you. It's driven into your brain year after year. Yet, some of you are saying that Crede was wrong for doing exactly that. No. You're wrong.
  9. QUOTE(valponick @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 10:31 PM) No, given the runners on base, it does not matter if the ball goes into the outfield at this point. You aren't always thinking about keeping the ball in the infield. The same is said if a groundball is hit slightly to the left or right of the mound...you have to know that in certain situations letting the ball go is the right play, this was a case where he should have let the ball go, EVEN IF it meant it went into the outfield. No. His job is to keep the ball in the infield. Always. Every f***ing time.
  10. QUOTE(valponick @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 10:24 PM) Game was completely his fault. I have no idea what he was thinking when he tried to barehand that ball, that was the wrong thing to do defensively. You have fat ass Lecroy chugging down the basepaths and one of the strongest arms in the league behind you but you try to barehand stab the ball from your belly? Completely f***ing ridiculous. I have had it with Crede, I would be more than happy to see a replacement at 3B. He was thinking "Stop the ball and keep it in the infield" which is EXACTLY what he should be thinking.
  11. QUOTE(Ishmookie @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 10:09 PM) Im doing a paper on this new policy and i wanted to know what the rules have been regarding steriods for the past decade can someone please give me a link...Thanks! Ish. In baseball, there were no steroid rules ... so therefore there's no link.
  12. Crede lost his footing and did exactly what he was supposed to do and try and keep the ball in the infield. Buehrle lost his footing on a play, and didn't get the lead runner yet he's not being burned in effigy.
  13. QUOTE(greg775 @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 09:45 PM) Why do we have to lower our expectations like that? Why can't we be mad at the true cause of tonight's loss? --You mean the one bad pitch by Mark B that got taken out by Hunter? No room for error vs. Mr. Cy Young and we lose. But we win the series, which is big. On to the next series. We need to win that one, too and keep plugging away. That's the key. Win all the series. Take 2 out of 3, 3 out of 4, even 2 out of 4. Just don't lose any, if possible.
  14. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) Sweeping the defending champs in their own house and beating their number 1 and 2 pitchers doesnt set a tone. Are you kidding me. No. I'm not kidding you. It wouldn't mean s*** beyond the current standings.
  15. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 09:43 PM) I understand that we won the series, but man a sweep would of set a tone for the season. No, it wouldn't have.
  16. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 09:40 PM) Why do we have to lower our expectations like that? Why can't we be mad at the true cause of tonight's loss? You can get your blood pressure up over it. Not me. In general, we are playing good ball. You win some, you lose some.
  17. Ok. It's over. We're 4-2 and took two series from division rivals to start the season. A week ago today, I would have taken that.
  18. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) I thought we were gonna do it greasy. Ever so close. Yep. We had a chance to go 161-1, but we choked.
  19. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 09:31 PM) I want to know why the hell Ozzie isn't saying jack. This is a game where he should've gotten ejected to fire up his team. Why oh why Ozzie????? Ridiculous.
  20. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 09:30 PM) Dye trapped that ball. I thought so too .... but those umps never f*** up, so I must be wrong.
  21. Some days, everything goes wrong. Today's one of them.
  22. QUOTE(Reddy @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 09:16 PM) I WANT THE BOWLING FOR SOUP GUY TO PLAY THIRD BASE. just wanted that known. He'd make a good hockey goaltender.
  23. QUOTE(3E8 @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 09:12 PM) buehrle didn't even have his grade A stuff tonight. His command wasn't sharp. It wasn't a great start by Buehrle.
