Interesting .... I submitted this theory back on Jan 12 .... before the Colon trade:

Section 113....that was a good post...but I gotta ask....do you know who is quoted as saying that first? Because it is a very good quote to live by Actually, I believe this quote, or a very similar form of it, can be attributed to Benjamin Franklin. I am not totally sure of this, though.

i am going to play the devils advocate here. a contract is a contract, where does it say that a contract has to be redone. for one person benefit? if that is the case, why hasn't some of the players who gotten a rich contract and then went into a slump, turn around and said, "pls redo my contract so i can give you your money back." if a contract is redone, then it should be as a 2 way contract or for lack of better words a big contract with a base and huge in incentives. This is hardly a fairly negotiated contract situation. Management holds all the leverage due to Buerhle's lack of service time. Like last season, KW offered Mark "X" amount of money. Mark turned it down. So, KW uses his leverage and forces Mark to play for $15000 less than he had previously turned down. Of course, eventually, the shoe is going to be on the other foot. When that happens, Mark will sound a lot like HSC when he says :fyou KW! on the same note, do you see the players rushing to redo their contract when they have had a horrible yr? No I don't. And though you have a point here, it's moot one. That is not what this issue is about.

Absolutely right .... the integrity of the game should be held above anyone, no matter how great he was as a player. Pete Rose should remain where is as an example to any other scumbag that ever even thinks about betting on or throwing a game. MLB is saying... even the all-times hits leader is not forgiven for this indiscretion. That is, if our esteemed commish doesn't sell out.

That's been my basic feeling about our rotation all winter long. Garland and Wright seemed to get better after Nardi was axed. Rauch put up those two good starts at the end of the year. I always assumed there would be another starter acquired, but by it being Colon I REALLY like our rotation. One through five, I'm very optimistic about them.

Did anybody notice in this article that Willie Harris also homered in this game?

What that list tells me is that the Chicago sports fan is a tough s.o.b. that expects better than what he is getting... from all the local teams. The Cubs at 83, the Sox at 85 and Bears, Bulls and Blackhawks coming in even lower than that. Of course, with the superbly wonderful collection of owners we have in Chicago, I'm sure that contributed greatly to low ratings. Sarcasm in green.

Baggio, I agree with you that JM screwed up Foulke last year, and I never said that Foulke sucked. I liked Foulke and always felt he would bounce back and be a dependably effective pitcher again.

"supposed to be so good" is the key to that sentence.............wunch and glover??? your honestly going to trust those two at relief.....one cant stay healthy all season and the other cant get his head out of his ass long enough to pitch.............gordon im not pinning any hopes on cause hes another injury prone guy... im sure if things look like they arent going his way this season he will be down for the count with an injury... then what????? so all we have is koch (who hasnt pitched one ball for US yet so we cant judge him) and marte who ....well.......ok he did alright last year but he cant pitch each and every game if all the others fail can he now????????? we need help..............face it.............. Me and you seem to find more things to disagree about. I felt Glover did a decent job out of the pen last year. He was much more effective in relief than as a starter. Wunsch has been halfway decent at getting out that one or two lefty hitter that you need to get by. So, yes, in their defined roles, I felt they were at least adequate. As for Flash, he won't have to carry the load so he can be used carefully so that he remains healthy. Whether Koch has thrown any pitches for us or not, is a moot point. He has been effective in the American League, so yes, I feel that based on that he can be accurately judged and we can have a reasonable expectation of what kind of performance we will get from him.

cwsox & hsc .... after a month or so of reading this board, I've come to respect both of your posts, opinions and information. HSC you nailed that Koch deal and that told me that this chic knows of what she speaks. Besides that, you are a very knowledgable baseball fan. As you know, I've been a KW defender. I'll do exactly what you said... wait, watch news and see if the breaks in the media. If it does as is being reported here, I will join you on the dump KW bandwagon. My biggest b**** about the Reinsdorfian era White Sox has ALWAYS been about the way the front office has treated the players. And from what I've seen over the years, the way they disrespected so many players as they left the club .... Fisk, Lance Johnson, Black Jack... the list can go on and on, this is very believable. I was never so embarrassed to be a Sox fan when they barred Pudge from the playoff locker room. That was such a classless act. And I truly believe it that kind of crap that KEEPS SOX FANS AT HOME! Anyway, I may soon be joining you in your cries for KW's ouster. We'll see what happens.

I'm gonna hold you to that! GO Sox!!!

Pretty good article here. I thought it was interesting what they hads to say about Garland, Wright and Rauch.
-
I missed on both games... such is life.
-
Yeah, that would have been a nice pick up.
-
I was glad to see Hummel had decent numbers after the way he struggled the first half of last year.
-
I thought so too.

Here's what it said about the Sox. "You can't choose your relatives, but Pale Hose fans desperately want a new dad. "If Jerry Reinsdorf disappeared, everything else is in place here to win," says Jason Gage, who operates the fan site soxnet.net. "He's the worst owner in baseball." Hard to disagree. The Sox don't win much (three postseason appearances since 1960) and the new Comiskey Park is a sterile nightmare. No wonder Reinsdorf gets the blame (see above). Still, things could be worse. "At least," Gage says, "the Cubs stink too." Here's the link Just click on the Sox. They are at #85.

What's wrong with our bullpen? Koch, Marte, Gordon, Wunsch, Glover .... that's pretty solid in my book. Add 1 or 2 of these kids that are supposed to be so good, and the pen should be a strength.
-
My guess is the lawn ornament is not going anywhere, and I believe he will be our DH in 2004. I have a feeling that this will be Thomas's last year with the Sox.
-
Sorry.... Rose knew the rules. No, he should not be admitted, nor reinstated to baseball in any form. And MLB needs to stop dragging his butt out on the field when they want to make money off of him.
-
I predict a sellout at the last home game. Just call it a hunch. ... and HSC, I volunteer to do the artwork on your back.
-
After that Mike Cameron fiasco... I'd love to see what our lineup can do against him.

There's much more to baseball than just hitting, man. I admit, Maggs is a great player (Top 5 outfielder in baseball without breaking a sweat), but if you're just going to only use his batting average and power as a way to ocmpare him to everyone else, we're not going to agree much, seeing as there a other factors like speed, baserunning ability, defense, arm power, etc. Though Ichiro is a unique talent, that doesn't make him better than Maggs. Taking all of the basic "tool" catagories into consideration, I'd still take Maggs over any RF in baseball, with the exception of Vladdy.
