How can you expect a Cub fan to know baseball? They haven't ever seen it. C'mon Heather, have a heart.

We've had several posts saying if we gave up Rauch, it would be too much. Baggs says the Phillies wouldn't make this deal. It sounds like a possibility to me, since it seems to be pretty even from the perspective that both sides would hate to give up that kind of quality.

I like this bullpen too. Glover did have a high ERA, but he was effective out of the pen. When he was starting, they'd get to him the second time around the batting order. Used prpoerly, I think he will be effective out of the pen again. Flash is supposed to healthy, and if so he could be a real big pick up. I agree with Baggio on White... I like a guy with a mean streak in him. Wunsch has had a full year to recover, and he should be able to get out that occasional lefty, again. Marte was such a pleasant surprise last year. I hope he can continue to perform at that level. Koch is a known quantity, and he'll be as good as always. As far as depth goes, we have 4 guys competing for the number 5 starter job and we have several kid relievers that should be able to supply plenty depth.

I can see the title for the DVD now..... The Series in "The Cell"

To get a pitcher like Jon Rauch.
-
Take another look at it... We are talking about a free agent signing here. We would give up nothing but his salary.

This could prove to be a very good move, if it happens: Link

I agree with you. But, this new veterans committee are living HOF'ers. These guys are Allen's peers. They know what kind of talent he had. I would hate to see Allen get in at Santo's expense, because Ronnie is a HOF'er in my book. But, if they both get in, then that would be cool.

It will be at 11:30 Eastern Time.

I see it as a toss up between Garland and Crede.
-
I've heard that new veterans committee is going to give Dick Allen strong consideration for the Hall of Fame.

if the bears had a history of developing QB's then id say that would be good strategy...if we were san francisco then you would have a point...but were not...we havent really developed a stud QB that hung around for ten years or so since the 1940's and sid luckman... leftwich is a perfect fit for the bears...he has the skills..arm , intelligence , leadership , mobility , toughness ..he has his best success in cold weather...if the bears pass on him who knows when they get another shot at that type of talent... we cant afford to pass him up... id be more comfortable with your stategy above if you were talking about a RB in the 2nd round and not a QB.... Aren't you forgetting about Bobby Douglas?

Animal House, Blazing Saddles, Braveheart, Rocky (the original) and I still have an unexplainable affinity for The Longest Yard with Burt Reynolds.

Did any of you ever get lucky enough to witness a roof top shot, or one that went completely out? I saw Greg "The Bull" Luzinkski hit one off of Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd of the Boston Red Sox. I think it was in '83. When the ball was hit, I loooked at Jim Rice in left field.... He never moved. That's when I knew it had a chance. The ball was sky'ed, and at first I thought it be playable because it was hit so high. But went Rice never moved, or never even turned to watch it, I started yelling for it to get out. That was so cool to see that. However, I believe the hardest homer I ever saw hit was by Dick Allen. He hit a line shot in the first inning of a game, we were still walking to ourseats and happened to be behind the plate when he hit it. The pitcher actuall reached up and tried to catch this ball as it whistled past him.... and that ball hit the back wall of the old centerfield bullpen... and bounced back onto the playing field. And this was a frozen rope... no arc to it whatsoever. I'm telling you, he really crushed that ball.

I like most of these ideas, but numbers 6 and 15 are horrible.

If Sandy can catch 60 games this year... and stay healthy while doing it, he'll be a valuable asset.

Why is everyone so insistant that MB start on opening day.... If he doesn't care, and if sets him (MB) to face the Twins a few more times, Hell I'm all for Colon starting on OD. Buerhle is tough on them Twinkies.

Since when? I remember Maggs playing center and doing an adequate (at least) job. He has the speed and the arm for it. I can see no reason Maggs couldn't play CF in a pinch.

Hey Darlin'.... Don't hold back. Say what you really feel!

True enouh good buddy, true enough! However, as much as I dislike JR at times (plenty of times), I never, ever forget one fact: I am old enough to have lived through almost losing the Sox in Chicago several times, especially 1969 and 1981. JR - despite all his failings - when he bought the Sox, he kept them in Chicago when another buyer may easily have moved them. Those of you who are young may not know how close we came to losing the Sox, just as when Art Allyn may well have sold the Sox away and John Allyn of blessed memory bought the Sox from his brother and kept them in Chicago. (The threat to move the Sox over the new stadium was always a bluff negotiating ploy, as I saw it.) What I know is twice we damn well almsot lost the Sox, and John Allyn and JR both tikmes kept them in Chicago so for me it iks always in the back of my mind when I am otherwise yelling about JR, and why this contract may mean a lot, lot more to me. This contract guarentees that when JR does sell the team, or dies and it passes to others, that we do not have to live with the future threat of the Sox being moved again, and that is the best news I will have this year. I'm right there with you on this one. I remember both times the Sox almost moved, too.

I agree with you... Sosa is a SLUGGER. Ordonez is a BASEBALL PLAYER. There is a big difference in the two. I'd take Sosa over Maggs on only one day a year... The Home Run Derby. Otherwise, being that they are supposed to play basebal, I'll take Maggs.

It sounds like all of you had a great weekend at Soxfest. I'd love attend it some year.
-
Personally, I don't care what any Cub fan has to say about it. I never believed that either park should be named for Comiskey, anyway. It means nothing to me that they sold the naming rights.
-
They knew the reputation of that location was a hinderance to attendance when the built the park. As for the park itself, it is ok. It's kind of bland. No character, like any of the newer have. The upper-deck does give you a bit of vertigo at times. As long as you are looking down on the field, it's ok. But if you look up to follow a fly ball or watch fireworks, it does mess with you a bit.

oh me neither, I was just using it as an example... That would be cool as hell if the fans did that, especially if the place was packed... So, we are going to have "the Cell", with all the prison references that goes with the name, competeing against "beautiful Wrigley Field". I think JR just shot himself in the foot on this deal.
