  1. This topic has been discussed and kicked around so much, but really, when it comes down to it, it just doesn't matter. Stack up the rotation that works best for the ballclub and go with it. There should be no controversy on this issue. Hell, it shouldn't be an issue.
  2. He married Rosanne Barr... what more needs to be said?
  3. I agree with Jason and HSC. Rowand deserves his shot.
  4. It's way too early to speculate on when, not if, Vlad ends up in NY. As for putting Wright in the pen... WHAT???!!! ..... They spent a year grooming the kid as a starter.... leave him in the rotation, that's where he belongs.
  5. Eddie Collins, Red Faber, Ted Lyons... all greats, for sure. I wasn't sure how to classify Wood, starter or reliever. Forgot all about Thiggy. Ken Berry was one of my favorites, but I assumed I was biased there, so I left him off.

Isn't Dellareo just a shortstop? Or is he capable of being "utility"?
  7. padilla was pretty fair with that article...one thing i didnt know was carlos lee truniung down interviews because "he had too much stuff going on in his head"...great....heather..straighten out your husband I agree. It was a pretty good summation of all the questions we've been asking and arguing about on this board all winter.
  8. why not porzio? Porzio is not part of the equation. The other guys in the pen are Koch and Marte.
  9. This is dated Sunday the 9th... I didn't recall seeing any mention of it of this board. If it has already been posted somewhere, I apologize. Here's the link
  10. Just sitting here bored stiff... and all of this is off the top of my head, so don't crucify me. Pos Starter Back Up Honoarable Mention Forgetables C Carlton Fisk Ray Schalk Sherm Lollar Mark Johnson 1B Frank Thomas Dick Allen Paul Konerko Gail Hopkins 2B Nellie Fox Ray Durham Don Buford 3B Robin Ventura Bill Melton Buck Weaver Ron Santo SS Luke Appling Luis Aparicio Chico Carrasquel Bee Bee Richards LF Minnie Minoso Floyd Robinson Buddy Bradford CF Jim Rivera Jim Landis Chet Lemon Chris Singleton RF Joe Jackson Magglio Ordonez Mike Hershberger SP Ed Walsh Billy Pierce Gary Peters Ritchie or Navarro RP Hoyt Wilhem Rich Gossage Eddie Fisher Alan Embree Now, I know I had to forget some pretty good ballplayers, but I just threw this out there for the sake of discussion. Edit: It didn't space it out like I typed it... If only 3 names, honorable mention was skipped. Sorry.
  11. KW as the scarecrow, singing ... "if I only had a brain".
  12. This is hardly original, but I think it fits for a "new" slogan..... "Just Win, Baby!"
  13. Back to Frank Thomas... I believe he'll have a Frank Thomas kind of a year this season. .330-40-125 or better.
  14. Some people seem to think the Twins will suck this year. I think they will be tough to beat. They are not going to vacate first place so the White Sox can have it by default. We are going to have to take it away from them .... then keep it.
  15. Just for conversation sake, how does Olivo's arm compare with IRod's?
  16. I don't think you're nuts. The first question I asked when I heard about the deal is "Where the hell is Brian Giles?"

    "El Duque"

The Expos have a mandated (Bud)get that they have to meet. If they give Vazquez that extra $500K, they'd have to dump it somewhere else. The Spos are not in a position to just split the difference.
  18. I'm not real excited about the possibility of signing Rogers. I'm concerned about his effectiveness at his age (38?). I mean, assuming Rauch isn't ready, would Rogers really be any better than Loiaza or Heredia in that #5 spot?
  19. Simply put.... NO WAY IN HELL!
  20. I think that by attributing the comment by Foulke, to be about Thomas, without anything more substantial than what was printed, was a cheap shot by the writer. If he doesn't know, and cannot back it up with quotes, he shouldn't say that it was a shot at Thomas by Foulke, nor should he imply it. I guess the writer is pissed at Frank because Frank won't talk to the press.... and yet this is a perfect example of why. As for Foulke, he had the closers job, faltered and lost it, and because the others were nailing down over 90% of the remaining save situations, he couldn't get it back. Sounds like sour grapes to me. If Keith had have nailed down 90%, then he would have a a ligitimate b****. As for Johnson, he got 75 more opportunities to prove himself than he deserve. He should just shut the hell up.

    Favorite movies

Best baseball movie EVER! Bull Durham was better IMHO. But Field of Dreams was very good. I also thought The Natural was pretty good.
  22. I'm sure he doesn't mind... those tree trunks are what supplies the power behind that 100 mph fastball.
  23. I remember seeing that broke down after the 2000 season. His errors cost us something like 2 games, and one of those was questionable.
  24. Great post, Rex... and a great website. Rickwood just has been added to my "must do" list.
  25. I'll tell you, old Comiskey was beautiful. I have felt that way since my father took me to my first ballgame as a kid. I never forget walking into that stadium from along the first base line, watching that field appear before my eyes... the stands, the scoreboard, the players... I was just awestruck. I really think I fell in love with baseball at that moment. I was hooked for life.
