  1. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 02:46 PM) McCain is just as big of a phoney. Maybe not bigger, but just as. He's just more open about his phoniness. The only candidate in either party that isn't a proven phony is Obama, and that's because he hasn't been around long enough. Like you said though, at least McCain admits he's a phony , but really, ALL politicians are phonies, it's why so many people hate them.
  2. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 02:41 PM) McCain-Huckabee....the best of both worlds if you ask me. Fiscal Conservative and a Social Conservative. This ain't no Dole-Kemp team. make it happen and you have the perfect team to beat the dem candidate, imo. Agreed, and I think we are beginning to see (what happened in West Virginia just now for starters, and the fact that Huckabee hasn't dropped out yet, taking votes from Romney), that both of the mentioned men are starting to realize that too.
  3. Boy, if Romney was like that a few days ago, I wont want to see him tonight when his presidential hopes are all but dashed. I must say I am glad it appears he's going to be shut up for good by the voters this evening. And I gotta say the scare tactics of Romney, who has somehow convinced himself he's actually a Reagan Conservative, are gold. Between saying McCain is bad because he's against global warming in West Virginia with stuff like McCain will kill the coal industry, and pretending he is with Rush Limbaugh in the struggle to save the right wing, I want to throw up.
  4. Although the number of delegates amounts to very little relevance (if any), that's not a good sign to start the day for Romney. I give credit to the McCain people in West Virginia though, that was a brilliant tactical ploy.
  5. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 12:25 PM) The NFL receives literally billions of taxpayer dollars in the form of government funding for stadiums, security, and other various infrastructure concerns around them. Furthermore, the NFL is broadcast over the public airwaves, which includes rules preventing any sporting event presented as being live competition as being pre-arranged or fixed. The Senator is fully within his rights to spend time on this. It's a matter of public interest, a matter that the government has rules governing, and for crying out loud, do you really think a few days spent by either one Senator or even by a full committee on this will prevent them from acting on the Iraq war or the economy? Well it's obviously within his right, but why is he the only one that cares? It would be one thing if a lot of people in congress cared about this (thus, I don't b**** about the steroid hearings), but when it's one guy going off to all the media who will listen, and this man is a guy who is already in a war with the NFL over their TV network, I think it's fair for me to have a "WTF" reaction, as it's fair for others to feel that way too. And I don't think one person doing this will actually affect the war or economy, but my point is that he has much bigger fish to fry than some guy who might have taped a walkthrough for an NFL game 6 years ago.
  6. Off topic, but I personally laughed at Arlen Specter having his panties in a bunch over the Patriots, since he's a lousy Senator and a general douchebag. But if that isn't enough evidence for you, maybe the following link will make you think twice before taking his side against the Patriots and NFL. http://deadspin.com/352760/sen-specter-is-...al-judgment-guy Classic example of a politician at work. Use lies, deception, and personal vendettas to go after things that don't matter. But hey, who cares about the possible recession and Iraq, the NFL destroyed some tapes!!!
  7. QUOTE(danman31 @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 12:03 PM) Ehh, that's debatable. Mizzou won the North, had the #1 ranking for a week, and finished with a higher ranking. I've seen some Kansas fans say they would trade their season for Mizzou's, but that's personal opinion. You guys are a way better football program than Kansas, and you had a great year, I wouldn't consider it too big of an issue. As for Juice Cruz's post........I'll take the words of the people who told me them over yours.
  8. Liuget is in, as I said a few days ago. Harper is 50/50 between Illinois and Miami, but might be leaning towards Illinois because Liuget picked the O&B over the Canes. Might be a surprise signee tomorrow as well. That's all I got, not much but I figured I'd post it anyways. Oh, and Notre Dame got a verbal from 2009 power forward Jack Cooley of Glenbrook South. With Illinois already getting Griffey, and Cooley's game being pretty similar to current ND star Luke Harangody, I think this is a very good fit for both sides.
  9. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 12:46 AM) They can always have the title of the only undefeated team, but anyone who's not a coward and looks at facts will say there is no way they were the best team ever. 1. 85 Bears 2. 91 Redskins 3. 84 Niners 4. 89 Niners 5. 72 Dolphins I had this debate with a friend yesterday, and we came up with 12 teams that were for sure better and another 6 which might have been. The 1972 Dolphins know this though, they're not stupid, which is why they root so hard for 17-0 to stand IMO. They know they were just a really good (not great) team that took advantage of a very poor NFL that year, and that if somebody goes 19-0, they'll be forgotten forever not only as the only perfect team, but also as a great team in general. As for Dolphin fans who sit there and say the '72 Dolphins are still the best team, well of course they are going to say that, it's their favorite team. They are wrong, and most weren't even around to see that team play, but it's their team. Dolphins fans will say the '72 team is the best, Bear fans will say the '85 team is the best. It's just how it is, fans are homers who can't put away personal loyalties to look at things in perspective, and that's a shame.
  10. QUOTE(Brian @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 08:26 AM) What kind of ball were Gonzaga and St. Mary's playing with last night? Looked like something out of Hoosiers. Ehh I think your on the right track, but I thought it looked more like an old, worn down basketball that has been used outdoors on the hoop in the driveway of a house in a cold weather climate. Anyways, it was a heck of a game, but the refs really did St. Mary's some favors in the overtime. Both of those teams will be dancing though, assuming one of them wins the WCC Tournament and the other goes a long way in it like I'd expect. Haha that stuff really seems to piss you guys off, going back to the BCS chant in St. Louis. You guys did at least have a better season than Illinois in football though, I hope your not silly enough to think you had a better season than KU, because you didn't. They lost 1 game to your 2, and they won a BCS game, which you didn't. You guys had a better team, but they had a better season. It's sad that is possible, but it's commonplace in NCAA football.
  11. I figured this deserved it's own thread since the dude has 900 wins. This info courtesy of ESPNEWS.
  12. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 01:47 PM) Yet you just did it. Beaten to a pulp?? Ok I did the best I could, and it still made no sense, which is part of the point. I know I can't win this argument here since everybody will be homers for the '85 Bears, but they'd have just given up a ton of big plays with all the blitzes against a quasi run and shoot offense, and that goes beyond the differenta eras thing. They were TINY. If somebody wants to argue their chances against New England than whatever, but that team is TINY outside of the Fridge. I guess you could argue, in theory, that the front 7 is the size of one of the smaller few defenses in football today like Tampa Bay, but there is no way in hell they are anywhere near as fast. Maybe you were listening to "imaginary radio". I especially can't get over the size of that offense, the FB is the size of a RB, the TE is like a WR, and Hilgenberg is like the size of a TE.
  13. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 11:27 AM) Reinsdorf does not care about the Bulls, he views it as an invesment. He has no emotional ties with them. Correct, thus why he said he'd trade all 6 rings with Jordan for one World Series back in the early 2000's before the grand season. The Reinsdorf hate from Sox fans has always confused me, as he really does care, but the hate for his management of the Bulls is understandable. If Portland doesn't take Sam Bowie, Reinsdorf might be known as one of the worst owners in the NBA right now.
  14. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 10:47 AM) As for the game....18-1 NE...same as the Bears only the Bears won the big one. I also think the way NE played with a tough Defense in their face proves Hampton correct. Hampton: We would have pounded Brady Haha, Hampton is such a clueless retard and it's proven yet again. The whole reason the Giants won was they established pressure with ONLY their front 4 early, then blitzed Brady after he was beaten up and confused to the point where he wasn't getting good reads. The Bears exclusive blitzing, 46 defense for 60 minutes style would have been beaten to a pulp by New England. That's not the Bears fault, it's just how it is, just like the Bears would have killed any of those Packers teams from the 60's. Football players just get bigger and faster and better every year, which is why comparing teams from different eras is stupid and pointless.
  15. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 02:24 AM) No way. 4th and 2 to end the damn game, you go for it right there, period. And like Herbstreit once said, VY was going to score whether he got that ball around the 40 or around the 20, it didn't much matter. He was unstoppable in that 4th quarter/the entire game. No f'in way I want to give him the ball back if I don't have to, even if I give it to him at the 1 yard line. Texas scored on a 4th down play with 20 seconds left, if they had to have gone an extra 25 yards (a quarter of the field!), it makes a big difference. And the equally big problem was Carroll's arrogance to just run it up the middle with LenDale White and not even have the threat of Reggie Bush on the field. It was debateable if going for it was right or wrong, it was not debateable that running it up the middle with Bush not even on the field with the season on the line was idiotic. And, on a lighter note, what does Kirk Herbstreit matter? If his opinion were gospel, Les Miles would be the Michigan coach and Ohio State would have beaten Illinois by 2 touchdowns last season. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 09:03 AM) It was that NFC speed baby! AFC is weak like the Ukraine. Haha, spoken like a true angry/bitter/sarcastic Ohio State fan.
  16. http://youtube.com/watch?v=kJ2yK5C9Ae4 That clip will live in infamy. Way to make an ass of yourself Mr. Brady.
  17. QUOTE(Shadows @ Feb 3, 2008 -> 11:17 PM) Its just insane how Manning escaped that and hes not exactly the most mobile guy out there and on top of that Tyree makes a circus catch all of this with the SUPER BOWL on the line.. it was nuts That's a memorable play if it's an October game, let alone now. I still can't decide which part of the play was more amazing, I mean the escape job by Manning would have been incredible had Vick circa 2003 done it, and the Tyree catch would have been amazing had Jerry Rice circa 1994 done it. As amazing as the play was, it's even more amazing due to the parties who made it and the stage it was on.
  18. QUOTE(Shadows @ Feb 3, 2008 -> 10:50 PM) The Manning houdini and Tyree ridiculous catch is one of the greatest and most clutch plays I have ever seen Yeah, the only play I can think of that's even close in terms of the NFL is the immaculate reception. If Manning gets sacked, it's 4th and 15, pass was almost picked, if Tyree doesn't make that insane catch, it's still 4th and 5 and trouble. Just sick.
  19. Would it be unfair timing for me to answer right now and say Woods?
  20. Couple of good gets, especially Hill. Also, Corey Liuget, one of the best '08 prospects on board who has been a soft verbal for months, apparently has solidified his verbal to Illinois, VERY good news.
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 3, 2008 -> 09:48 PM) Could it be that Gostkowski said he just couldn't kick that one? If he can't kick a 48 yarder in a dome, he should be cut and the GM who decided he should be the kicker for a team that might make the Super Bowl fired. That is inexcuseable. However, Gostkowski made a 54 yarder his preseason as a rookie (against the Giants even), and also has a 50 yard playoff FG at San Diego last year on his resume, plus he's a very good kicker. So I doubt that's the case.
  22. Eli made a lot of people look stupid this offseason *raises hand*, one of the best runs in playoff history by the Giants, they certainly earned everything they've got. And where is Tiki? I'm curious what his thoughts are.
  23. QUOTE(daa84 @ Feb 3, 2008 -> 09:41 PM) thats really an inexcusable play....i could understand if it was like 4th and 2 or 3, but 4th and 13....wtf...belichicks arrogance finally caught up with him there and im happy about it It reminded me of what happened to USC in the Rose Bowl. Pete Carroll goes for it on 4th and 2, risking giving Vince Young a short field, and keeps Reggie Bush out. Belichick and Carroll are great coaches, but you could argue they'd both have one more ring if not for their own arrogance.
  24. I can't believe it, but two men made asses of themselves it turns out: Bill Belichick and Tom Brady. Belichick: Going for it on 4th and 13 in a well established defensive struggle instead of kicking a 48 yard FG with a really good kicker on a perfect field indoors. Brady: "Plax said they are gonna beat us 23-17 huh? Wow, we're only gonna score 17 points? I mean, I could see him saying 45-42". Uhh yeah, good call buddy. Enjoy your overrated girlfriend this offseason.
  25. I don't know how Bo Ryan does it. Lose your 2 best players, no real point guard, and they are a really good team yet again. He is so far and away the most underrated coach in America. And today did prove that Eric Gordon can still shoot 3 pointers well against a bad team, so he should play well against Illinois coming up.
