QUOTE(sircaffey @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 11:37 PM) I don't think he's mentally weak. He's just doesn't have the highest basketball IQ. He still plays like this is high school where he can take it to the hole anytime he wants. His TO are way up because of it, and he take a bunch of bad shots. If he were to stay another year, there's not doubt he could be the top college player in the nation. A smarter, more under control Gordon would be scary good. Ehh your probably right, it's just that so often he plays so smooth that when he screws up, it just looks like he's gotten lazy and thus, the mentally weak idea comes in. -

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 11:15 PM) Btw, I know the chances are extremely slim it happens, but I will go on record saying that Eric Gordon..... needs another year of college. He's not ready to contribute in a big way in the NBA yet. Just one man's opinion. Agreed, but he's still a top 10 lock pick, and the odds say more than likely, almost for sure, he will go pro. But I think he needs another year too, he's proven at times this year to be a bit mentally weak, not a good thing to be saddled with heading into the league. Keep in mind though he's playing with a hairline fracture in his left wrist that Indiana won't admit exists, so that is hidering his play (he may be a bit mentally weak, but not at all physically). -

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 11:07 PM) Lol, this was Illini's superbowl because of Gordon? You are as bad as all the fans you make fun of.... Well it was. They have no shot at the NCAA's or NIT, so this was the biggest game of the year. And wow, reading the Illini fan boards.........I can see why IU fans are so confrentational this evening. It's a looney bin among most Illini hoops fans right now, no logic at all. It just AMAZES me most of all that fans can actually be so mad at Gordon, and miss who they should hate (Bruce Weber), for inheriting a great program and turning it into pure, unfiltered garbage. -

QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 11:02 PM) Well then I guess I should apologize for being happy that my team won a game which I figured they would not fair to well with all emotions involved. This was Illini's super bowl like stated earlier and I definently did not have a good feeling about it. We won, I'm happy, so long. You didn't think you'd beat a bad team? I know it was the Illini's Super Bowl, but their still bad. The problem tonight is Indiana really isn't that great a team, their just a decent team with 2 great players taking advantage of a horrid league. -

QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 10:54 PM) I have to live it up. I've heard s*** all year from ILL fans about Gordon and I'm just glad he got the chance to rub it in their face. Karmas a b**** Frazier. Karma? Because of an unfriendly pregame chest bump? Have you been drinking? And yeah, Illinois fans have been deluisional fools about the Gordon thing because it hides the real problem, which is Bruce Weber is an embarassingly bad coach. You know that as well as I do, but if your going to stoop to the level of most Illinois fans on this subject, that's your problem. It's not like you beat a team that's worth a damn. -

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 07:04 PM) tiller should stfu because he's done the same thing in the past to other schools. Yeah, listening to Joe Tiller talk about recruiting ethics is like subscribing to the George W. Bush guide to smooth public speaking. -

QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 10:40 PM) Well great game ILL but take your chest bumping elsewhere. We win your game of the year. And evidently a fan threw beads at the Gordons? nice Congrats on beating one of the worst BCS teams in the nation twice in games you could have lost, want a cookie? Give me a break, trash talking at a 10-14 (2-9) team, lol. As for the Gordons........I'm sure stuff was done towards them that was out of line, but they were amazingly stupid to even go to this game. They'll have the rest of the year, NCAA Tournament, and 10 years in the NBA to watch him, and they should have assumed the worst going into an atmosphere of delusional, frusterated fans. I'm surprised the fans behaved as well as they did, I thought it would be even more lame. -

Typical Illinois loss, and Pruitt will not be missed. It's good to see the progress from McCamey though, as he'll of course be a junior when the '09 guys arrive and a senior when Jereme and Crandall show up, and of course it's big he develops since the one weakness in those 2 classes is none of the guys are true point guards. And I'm glad Eric Gordon isn't coming to Champaign again, that was sad/embarassing to watch at times. -
QUOTE(Felix @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 03:56 PM) So what's next, we turn into the Colorado Rockies and start banning Playboy and Penthouse in the locker room? Sorry, but I think that's bulls***. People should be allowed to do what they want in the locker room, whether it be cursing, listening to music with parental advisory warnings, reading Playboy, or whatever, so long as it prepares them to perform on the field. If you're an adult (as all of these players are, including Josh Fields) and can't handle other people doing those sorts of things, you should really reevaluate your life. AMEN!! Anybody who is bothered by what goes on in the locker room is IMO not a strong Christian, but rather a tempted one. If he were so strong in his religion, he'd laugh off the nonsense that goes on and realize how fortunate he is to have his faith. I don't find this to be that big a deal, but Fields was more tempted by the groupies than anything else, regardless of what he says, IMO. I have no problem with anybody have any religion and openly practicing it, but don't tell me that it almost caused you to quit your job. That's a classic case of talking out of both sides of your mouth, because anybody strong in a religion knows how to handle people who don't feel the same way.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 04:09 PM) 3. I think it will be funny if the Illini beat Indiana. Oh it'd be funny, but it won't happen. This team can't beat Penn State, Miami of Ohio, or Tennessee State at home, so they certainly won't beat IU. It'll be close for a while as always, but talent (IU) will prevail. I am very worried about how the fans will act, this could be awfully embarassing. I just hope if Russell Ellington and Supo Sanni are berated when Illinois plays at Iowa in 2009, that the Illini fans are consistent and understand that is expected since they verballed to Iowa at first. It AMAZES me how dumb Illini fans are being about this, and actually it makes me kind of sad as a very longtime follower and fan. -

Two points: 1. I am already embarassed at tonight's events in Champaign, and they haven't even happened yet. Gordon changed his mind after IU got a new coach, and went to a better team since this is the only year he'll be in college anyways. That, and Weber couldn't recruit until Jerrance Howard arrived. 2. Anybody mad at Eric Gordon and who is an Illinois fan is a hypocrite. Illinois signed four players yesterday who decommited from other schools. All teams in NCAA football and basketball benefit and are hurt by decommits, just the way it is in today's world. -
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 12:24 PM) Don't write off Huck yet. The conservatives now have one candidate to work with instead of two. Yeah, if he gets Romney's delegates, it's not over yet. The problem is, I don't think there are enough evangelical dominated states left for Huckabee, even if he's the one and only candidate to work with now.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 12:15 PM) I don't think he's too worried about what the Dems will remember. It's what the GOP will remember that's important. Yeah, he was obviously targeting any and all forms of evangelical conservatives that would listen in that speech, almost to the point of going overboard. Problem is, if he runs again, Mike Huckabee will still very possibly be there, and he's going to beat a mormon for the evangelical vote every time.
-
QUOTE(Chet Lemon @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 12:09 PM) That is what I noticed too. His line that "tolerance of pornography" has lead to more children born out of wedlock won loud applause. And was completely inaccurate. And YASNY, your correct it's irreelvant what he said since he's not the nominee, but it was still very strange and Democrats will remember this speech if he runs again in 2012, which I think he will.
-
QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 08:41 AM) He should pick Condi as his veep. Then all the blacks and women who are voting for Obama and Hillary because of identity politics (as opposed to those who are voting for them because they agree with thier stance/ideals/etc.) will have a real choice on their hands, since it is a real possibility that Johnny may not live to finish his term. That would be a horrid choice. Blacks won't vote republican EVER, even if a black is on the ticket, and McCain would be wise to stay as far away from the Bush Administration as possible.
-
QUOTE(Soxy @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 12:02 PM) Wait, he actually said that bit about France? Seriously? I thought you were joking. If not, well, I have some Frencherds to make fun of. He gave Democrats enough fuel to power a 747 for a year with all the bizarre stuff he said.
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 11:57 AM) Now it's McCain v Huckebee to the death! Does McCain put it in cruise and wait for an opponent? Depends if Huck ends up taking Romney's delegates, but that of course would burn the bridge for a potential VP with McCain, who is the favorite no matter what, even if Huck gets Romney's delegates IMO.
-
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 11:59 AM) Not going to happen. McCain would probably still win. I think the GOP wants the primaries over with, probably have a McCain/Huckabee ticket. Well that is the diffcult part for Huck. He knows he has a very good chance at being McCain's VP, and if he takes Romney's delegates, he'd still be a bit behind and less than a sure thing at getting the nomination, while burning the McCain bridge.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 11:58 AM) Agreed. The party is fractured. I disagree that's it's questionable if conservatives are a majority. The conservative base was divided between Romney and Huckabee, while McCain swept up all the moderates. I believe if you add up Huck and Romney's delegates, it would be just slightly less than McCain. While I do admit if one had dropped out early, the other would have a lead perhaps right now, I think it'd still be a very close race, and in that sense, I think it's questionable who is in the majority anymore.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 11:54 AM) There is a difference between a conservative and a Republican. The conservatives are expressing those differences. While I agree there is a difference between a conservative and a Republican, I think McCain is beginning to make it look questionable if conservatives are even a majority in what people like Rush thinks is their own party anymore. The one thing I think we can agree on is that the current state of the Republican party is not good at all, regardless of who anybody thinks is right in the debate. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 11:56 AM) You don't think Romney wouldn't shift his 250 delegates or so in the direction of a guaranteed VEEP nod? That's a good point, although that ticket would get it's ass kicked in November.
-
QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 11:53 AM) I just don't get the reasoning behind the hatred. Free and independent thought seems to not be acceptable. i just coined a phrase... "Dictatorship of Thought". you dont agree... off with your head. it just seems wrong. You dont see Ted Kennedy BLASTING Joe Lieberman. Yet you have the core right declaring war on McCain. I couldn't agree more, even if it means all conservatives think we're idiots for this fair bewilderment.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 11:50 AM) Like liberals don't despise anybody that doesn't agree with them. :rolly Oh they do, no question about it. It makes me very sad that in the last 8 years, conservatives have become what they hate and are now completely close minded to anybody different with interest in their party, which is perhaps the biggest reason for the fracture in the party right now.
-
QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 11:38 AM) With all this HATE for McCain from large portions of the Right... wjy is McCain so hated? Also, why does the right seem to think anyone one step to the left of far right is the devil? I've NEVER understood this hatred. You dont hear people on the far left whole sale ripping apart someone on the right. Yes they might disagree, but you never hear them declair them the devil. It's not that hard to grasp. Conservatives dislike anybody who doesn't agree with them (including moderate members of their own party), and are kicking and screaming at the changes in their party going on right now. As a result, McCain, who is perhaps the biggest beneficiary of these changes, is becoming a target for all conservative political people to attack because he's the face of the change and is making conservatives drop left and right in this campaign. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 11:48 AM) So now Romney is going to give his delegates to the guy who he thinks has been a spoiler, ruining his presidential run? that would be kinda funny. Yeah, that's a small detail people are trying to forget apparently. Yeah, Romney and his all of a sudden conservative ways are closer to Huckabee, but there is no love lost there. I just find it hilarious that Romney was b****ing that Huckabee got in his way, and he ends up dropping out before Huck did.

He's speaking right now and making it official. It's good to see he's continuing the scare tactic comments even in defeat, starting off with "America is not a superpower anymore".
