  1. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Dec 31, 2006 -> 10:43 PM) Spurrier hates recruiting? Not sure who spread that mistruth years ago at Florida. Now up to 8th overall with this class so far, and 5 star DE Carlos Dunlap still expected to announce USCs way....go get em Spur! He did hate it....at Florida. He said as much too, saying he'd rather golf. Thing was, he could get away with it at UF since he could cherry pick whoever he wanted. Now, at USC, he knows he's gotta work to get the star recruits, and to his credit, he's getting it done.
  2. I still contest the best would have been no ND in the BCS and Wisconsin there instead. But rather, they must have the no 3 teams from 1 conference in the BCS rule. Stupid.
  3. QUOTE(Felix @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 11:21 PM) Notre Dame didn't deserve to be in a BCS bowl. The LSU fans realize this, and chant "overrated". Its not moronic at all.. Also, in a BCS bowl, no one is expected to win by nearly 30 points. Thats the point of the BCS... to make the games competitive. I couldn't disagree more with your first point, all the overrated chant does is discount your own win. Your right about point #2 though....the BCS failed here, because I mean I expected this to be a 30 point blowout. It was such a disparity in talent.
  4. QUOTE(Fotop @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 11:14 PM) No I agree, Weis has turned him into a monster. Should have worded that better. By saying ND is polarizing I mean that he's under such a microscope and so much exposure. I mean take the gold helmets and the blue jerseys away and then take a look. As much as people argue that the "ND Hype Machine" is good for you, it's just as bad. Obviously there are very few here that believe this as such, but I might as well state it. Just give this a read, http://bluegraysky.blogspot.com/2006_12_01...576835367811511 Puts what I'm speaking of in a much more eloquent manner. Sidenote: LSU fans chanting overrated. That's downright moronic. I agree with all of that actually. And yeah, the overrated chant is moronic. I just worry about Quinn in the NFL because he doesn't have all the tools that translate to the next level IMO, he's somewhat a product of Weis' great system.
  5. Of course ND doesn't belong in the bowls they get into....but since they are ND, they are a lock for BCS everytime they go 10-2, end of story, no matter how many times they get killed.
  6. 15 for 35, 148 2 TD's 2 INT 21 for 34, 332, 3 TD's 1 INT And #2 is bigger, has a stronger arm, and tonight at least, has looked more accurate.
  7. QUOTE(SnB @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 08:11 PM) i just love watching this LSU team play It's a shame it's not LSU or USC playing the Buckeyes. By what I've seen this year, tOSU is the best, then LSU and USC in any order, than everybody else. QUOTE(Fotop @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 10:55 PM) I just think Quinn is getting the raw deal in this whole "Who should be taken first?" discussion. And it certainly has a lot to do with him being the non-sexy, "safe" pick; therefore, not an interesting media take. Size, Arm, Brain, and most importantly Toughness makes Quinn the complete package...too bad he plays for a team as polarized as ND is. I really don't know how you can say all that. If Weis never shows up in South Bend, Quinn isn't even a 1st round pick.
  8. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 07:14 PM) I'm a ND hater, but I think they're going to surprise people tonight. /just wanted to make that comment before the game. Nope, they are doing about what I expected. Weis' committment to the run shocked LSU early and kept it close, but talent took over, LSU is throwing deep at will, and this is a blowout. ND should patent BCS beatdowns like this.
  9. #11, Drisan James, is really fast. He had the wide open long TD earlier, and just before half, makes an amazing play and TD on a throwback screen. Smurfs up 21-10 at the break, and they got the ball to start the 2nd. I wouldn't mind them winning, even if it costs me a 200 dollar winning sum.
  10. Claussen is the most overrated, overhyped prospect i've ever seen. He got fat on inferior competition with great talent on his team, and will be a bust just like his brothers. Not a slight towards Notre Dame though, they have recruited well at QB recently and have some other guys that actually are really good and will step in, Demetrius Jones among others. But ol' Jimmy is Ron Pawlus part 2, just hope he doesn't get as much PT as the latter did.
  11. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Dec 31, 2006 -> 02:24 AM) As far as Illinois goes in their loss to Xavier, all i gotta say is they are better off without Dee and James. If this years Illini had gotten the same homer refs that Dee and James Illni did, they'd have won too. And by more than 4 points.
  12. Smart by the Yanks, and wtf is Arizona doing?? Obviously the league factor will help RJ, but he's 100 years old. If they gave up even 2 marginal prospects, they lose the trade.
  13. I have several losses, but none of them were high confidence games, so I feel good. I'd also like to point out that the Big 12 still SUCKS. Texas BARELY beat the 9th place and 6-6 Big Ten team in what was a home game for them, Misery somehow blew a 14 point lead like that, Kansas State was pathetic, and Texas Tech was down 38-7 to an abominable Minnesota team before Glen Mason took over. Also, the Big 10 has nothing besides the big 3 though, which is why i'm feeling good I picked against all the other Big 10 teams.
  14. I couldn't have been more wrong about Iowa, they showed a lot in that game.....but I get my 32 confidence points in the end, thank God. 3 great games today. And I don't know what got into that Brodell guy, but wow.....he just made Texas, who has as fast a defense as any in the land, look SLOW.
  15. QUOTE(Nokona @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 04:39 PM) Ferentz isnt leaving. Come on now. I love the Bernstine pick up along with the kid from Jersey (was it Morrows i forget?) Can't wait to see them in the defensive backfield. If we don't get Clay I'd bet we'll land Dale Martin instead. Bernstine is a HUGE get. You guys somehow let the last 4 star footballer from Iowa get out (Adrian Arrington to Michigan), so you had to get him. I also agree with you about Ferentz, if he's not gone now, I dunno if he ever will be, and as for RB.....the Clay thing could go any which way it seems like now, that has been a confusing process, but you guys will get Dale Martin either way, and he's a very solid 4 star RB. And will all due respect to your sites fearless leader, if Ferentz were to go to the Steelers (which he won't, they'll keep that job in the family), there is no chance he goes to Iowa. He has a 10 times better recruiting base at Oklahoma and far more prestige.
  16. Glen Mason is such an idiot, as on display yet again tonight. However that loss was EPICALLY bad, that was Michigan State bad, by the Gophers. And Misery proved once again why they are, well, Misery (although WHAT A BALLSY CALL by Reilly, I forever respect a guy that would do that). Most importantly, both miracle comebacks keep me alive in the Bowl Confidence Pool. I had 27 on Texas Tech and 15 on Oregon State, so those 2 miracle comebacks saved my ass, and plus, I only had 5 on Clemson because I like Woodson, the Kentucky QB, so even though I lost, that helped me gain ground on almost everybody. My 32 game is tomorrow (Iowa), so damn Texas, make it quick and easy for me.
  17. There is a lot you can about that game, but mainly, give the Boston goalie credit. If he doesn't make one of the saves of the year, the game almost assuredly goes to OT and the Hawks get at least 1 point after being down 4-0.
  18. This is significant, most so because it might be the smoking gun the Feds need to get Bonds in jail for perjury.
  19. Iowa is going to get ROLLED in their bowl game, so Tate will have more bad things to say. He's right about Iowa people though. And I'm not sure where this myth about Tate having a great 2005 is coming from, but he was very average and this year wasn't even that. He was great in 2004 though, and that combined with a blown coverage on the last play of the Cap 1 Bowl by LSU will keep him popular there.
  20. You do know that 1997 Arizona is the only team to ever beat three #1 seeds, beat 2 all time good teams in Kansas and Kentucky of 1997, and had 2 NBA long time guards and the tournament MOP in Miles Simon, right?
  21. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 25, 2006 -> 08:52 PM) But, but, but, they have the leagues "best" front 7!!!!!! Yeah, they had the best until Ellis got hurt, the Bears were 2nd until Harris got hurt. The exposition of both will come in the playoffs though. Take the Saints/Eagles as the NFC Super Bowl rep to the bank. Oh, and Madden doing the game Sunday with Brett Favre=hurls.
  22. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 23, 2006 -> 11:24 PM) What were the A's asking for Zito at the Trade Deadline last year, for 1/2 a season? That is all I have to say about that. I know what they asked, and there is a reason they didn't get it/didn't trade Zito, and that reason was not wanting to win in 2006.
  23. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Dec 23, 2006 -> 11:30 PM) I dunno, Ozzie thinks we treat the kid like he's "Cy f***ing Young", so I don't know if he's sold on his super duper ability. I'm aware of how good Danks is, he's legit. As for Ozzie.....I think KW felt the same way about B-Mac that Ozzie does. They know more than we do, and the "more than we do" that they know, they don't seem to like.
  24. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 23, 2006 -> 09:01 PM) I can not believe that Mark Buehrle, one of the best starting arms in baseball the last 5 years, and a lefty to boot, could not bring a similar return to what we got in this deal. It's certainly not like anyone will say we raked Texas over the coals here with the deal we got. Weathered lefties with below average stuff who are a year away from hitting a FA market that might make him 15 million per year don't bring what they used to.
  25. That's right, here it is. For the first time since....well ever, I am going to *gasp* defend Ozzie Guillen. Look, we DID NOT trade Brandon McCarthy because Ozzie doesn't like him. That is ignorant to say, end of story. It's pretty obvious that one of three reasons are why this happened: 1. Kenny has been playing poker about McCarthy all along, and was blown away that he could get a lefty with better stuff in Danks, as well as another pretty good prospect in Nick Masset, for him. A classic case of peak value trade. And based on comments I've heard about what the organization thinks of B-Mac's 2 seamer, and KW basically saying that he thinks Danks has a higher ceiling alone than B-Mac (along with getting Masset), that is the most likely senario. 2. Kenny has lost his mind, and will soon either kill himself or become a Cubs fan. I think this one is pretty unlikely, but I've been wrong before. 3. Some of these stockpiled prospects are going to be used to make a significant trade. We have so many, in fact, that we could use some to get a really good player, and still keep a good one or two (which is amazing since as of a month ago, we had the worst system I can remember us having). This senario is also likely I would assume, but not as much as #1. Overall, let's wait until opening day to see how this works out. Our GM has proven that he can, you know, build a World Champion and all that, so he deserves at least a chance for us to wait until the season starts, then look at the roster, before we burn him at the stake. We do have two ELITE LEFTY pitching prospects in Danks and Gio now too (plus I like Masset and Floyd), so even if we only go 1 for 2 with them, lefty's that can ball are hard to find. The whole key here is that somebody has to step up and do something in the #5 spot, and to be honest, I think that will happen. I'm more worried about The Count staying healthy though....
