QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 06:08 PM) Although I doubt it would factor much. Would Hendry honestly give him an extension because of how it may appear letting him go? OF COURSE HE WOULD!! That's why I think this might be a factor, these are the freaking Cubs. They won't trade guys at peak value because they are afraid they'll piss off the fanbase after all. So I really think the Cubs would keep Baker even if it was only to avoid the muddy situation of how it appeared they let him go.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 10:18 PM) So who thought when Brian was hitting roughly .150 in May his average would rise 80 points in 3 months. I thought he'd get up to .230, but I thought that wouldn't happen until right around the end of the season. For him to get it all the way where it is now is amazing, hopefully he can crack .240 or even .250 by the time the season ends.

The Ozzie Guillen Battleground Thread

QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 09:25 PM) Normally I'd agree with you whitesoxfan, because he gives him great material, but the way that last column was written, I sense a vendetta — a "I will force Ozzie out of town and win this head-to=head pissing match with Ozzie." That last column was ridiculous and to me at least seemed like he was trying to put Ozzie away and win their little feud. I think it showed he dislikes Ozzie, however it moreso shows he wants to run Hawk out of town IMO. -
Does anybody have a link to a video clip of Joe Borchard's 500 foot plus homer in September a couple years ago against....the Phillies (I think, a rain makeup game?) If so, thanks a lot. If not, no big deal since I can't find it anywhere.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 03:06 PM) This year has felt a lot like 01-04 all over. One fast player in the entire lineup, a very weak bottom of the order, a strong top of the order, and mediocre pitching everywhere. Last year the Sox were a faster team. Willie was still here, Dye and Iguchi ran a little, Rowand ran, Podsednik was healthy for the most part, and they were just a faster and more fundamentally sound team. I look at this year's team and I saw 3 guys fail to get down a bunt last night. I saw no one trying to steal a base. It's sad, really. Thome has caused our offensive "problems" this year...Podsednik being a dbag hasn't helped, but by and large Thome is the reason the Sox are a station-to-station offense. Not that that's a horrible thing, I just hope that KW adds a little more speed to both the bench and lineup. This offense blows the hell away any of the '01 through '04 ones. THEY ARE NOT THE PROBLEM, and neither is the bullpen. The fact that we've had 1 pitcher all year (Count early, Garland later on) that doesn't suck is the problem.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 05:30 PM) It's a well known fact that Cubs fans love Survivor Band or Show?

This is not a question I am posing, howver these 2 articles sure as hell try and make it seem like that's the case. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/nl...ker-focus_x.htm That was on Monday, and now today we have this: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14491396/ I think it's quite an....interesting move for the national media to blame the Cubs racist fans for Dusty being under fire rather than the fact he's a bad manager for a bad team.

The Ozzie Guillen Battleground Thread

QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 04:09 PM) I just hope Ozzie outlasts that cbssportline guy and Mariotti. Mariotti wants towin the head to head battle with Ozzie obviously in pursuit of a manager who will come in and be as boring as Jerry Manuel and Buddy Bell and 95 percent of all humorless managers out there. If you think Marriotti wants Ozzie gone, your crazy. Ozzie is a dream manager for him, he's never out of material for his column. -
I'm far more concerned with his managing than I am his mouth.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 04:00 PM) That would be ridiculous if he did do that. However, he's due for a bad start or two considering how dominate he's been. Either way, he doesn't need to win the Cy Young, let him do what he's been doing and I'll be darn happy. He's my favorite pitcher on the staff and one of my favorites in all of baseball. He usually keeps the club in the games and puts faith in his defense while also fielding his position well all while working deep into games. Oh and he pitches quickly. I just like him because he's the kind of pitcher that can be successful for a long time. He gets people out with location, movement, and all kinds of jam shots and ground balls. Plus, he has an easy motion and doesn't have to overthrow, so should be able to stay healthy as he has in the past.

Mack is hitting .300 with a .378 OBP. Come on, that's DAMN good off the bench, especially a lefty bat. To say you'd take that trade back is silly, every pitcher in our bullpen is better than Damaso except Cotts, and he isn't going to AAA, so we really don't even have a spot for him right now. Mack is a guy everybody would love if Ozzie would stop being an idiot and putting him in CF.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 03:42 PM) Ehhhhh, a 3.92 ERA is good and all, but that's not "ace" worthy. He has a 3.92 and that includes the horrible period he had from opening day until early June. I know that time still counts, but he went through what will IMO be the worst 9 weeks of his career, and still has that number.
-
Jon Garland is now 33-14 with a 3.92 ERA since opening day 2005, and was 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA in 2 starts in the playoffs last year. Now I'm not picking fights, but if that's not an ace I'm not sure what is.
-
Nate Robertson entered July at 8-3 with a 3.14 ERA. He is now 11-10 with a 4.10 ERA. Regression to the means is a biatch. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) Jon would have to pitch like he is now for the rest of the season to even be in the discussion. We'd also have to get into the playoffs. He'd have to keep up this pace he's on now, which means he'd finish about 20-5 with an ERA of 3.80 or so. Still a long shot.
-
Garland now 15-4 with a 4.47 ERA on August 24th. This is the same man that was 4-3 with a 6.19 ERA on June 12th. What a turnaround.
-
YES!!! CG SHO FOR JON!! 10-0 WIN!!
-
UGH....bases loaded.

QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 03:07 PM) Again, what's your point? He never gets enough credit from anybody, no matter what he does. And this isn't calling you out AT ALL, it goes for most of the board.
-
Deep to center, but Brian glides under it and has it on the track.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 03:06 PM) And Cotts could use some confidence. With mauer and Morneau in there lineup it would be nice to have two lefties that we could count on out of our pen. Cotts could strike out the side on 9 pitches and i'd have no confidence in him for this weekend. But I agree he could use a confidence boost here, however we're gonna give Jon a shot and I don't blame Ozzie here.
-
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 03:03 PM) Can we say enought about Jon G?!? He is carrying us like Jose did down the stretch last season. Lets hope the other 4 can eventually catch on. JGINAA.
-
Nice to see Alex with a base hit there, hopefully A.J. follows suit, he needs some hits. But A.J. whiffs *sighs*.....going to the bottom of the 9th.
-
QUOTE(Friend of Nordhagen @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) Hawk and D.J. inexplicably -- and repeatedly -- referring to Mike MacDougal as "McDonald". Maybe he has a farm.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) So when did this game start? About 1. VERY fast game, especially with 10 runs being scored.
