  1. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 2, 2005 -> 12:10 AM) If Steve Stone is willing to take a job on the south side...I want him. Best color man in baseball. well that would actually be the ultimate F U to the Cubs management...... but then again do we have a booth big enough to hold the amount of baseball information inside Stone and Hawk's brains? plus he gets like $500,000 to do like a few days a week for the Score.... dont know if that would keep him from taking a job
  2. i very much doubt this was actually preplanned HR call.... i seriously think it's just what runs thru his mind every time a HR happens.
  3. i'll start by saying i'm not a DJ hater... while it's true he is not that proficient of an announcer..... i actually have to say i like that. for that reason, he's more likely to actually say what he's thinking.... a truly honest announcer is a rare thing. especially on the North Side, now that Stone is gone. and i like Hawk, but he's King of Homers. so anyway i like DJ, in general. That said, WOW does he need a new home run call. every time we homer, and DJ is doing playbyplay.... i actually find myself cringing, hoping he doesnt say "YUH-OH!!!!! BYE-BYE!!!!" But he always does. i really like Sox HRs, so please please we need DJ off the play-by-play. i dont know if Hawk is starting to scale back his work or what.....
  4. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 11:51 AM) He completely ignores the fielding behind that pitching. I've pointed it out earlier. A big part of the 9-2 record in 1 run games is attributed to DPs & timely outs. I would say the timely outs have been more beneficial to the defense than the timely hits have been to the offense. in Chris Rock voice: thats something youre sup-POSED to do. solid fielding isnt something to put us over any teams..... it just brings us into an echelon of winners. you really think that great fielding will put us over Minnesota? all Neyer is saying is that Minnesota is tops right now, and i cant disagree.... unless we pick it up in several areas. same with the point about the catchers calling games give up the hits and walks we have... and fielding/game-calling wont matter that much. obviously that stuff is key, but the argument here is what will make your team best in the division.
  5. i mean.... El Duque and Contreras have had great 'earned run games'.... but with high hits and walks, etc. now, you can write that off to "great defense" or "clutchness" or whatever....... but if you're honest with yourself..... you know that their sub-3.00 ERAs do not mean the same thing as when Randy Johnson has a sub-300 ERA. i'm not calling those escapes from jams "luck".... but enough of these 6 inning starts and the bullpen will have a shared dead arm in no time. i love what's been happening so far........ but to me, it's a bit much to christen this as a dominating staff. it just isnt. this staff is deep, but it's just not one of those staff's that will carry a mediocre offense. we are going to have to start hitting if we plan on having Neyer be wrong.
  6. if we're honest with ourselves, we cant totally refute some of the things Neyer is saying Garland is the one case on the staff where...career altering progress seems to have been made this offseason. the other guys are going to be what they are....... Buehrle is going to dominate some teams, get dominated by other teams Garcia isnt what he once was, but is good enough to keep the team in games... same with Duque. i suppose Contreras could still improve, but if we're watching the games, we know he hasnt been as lights-out as his ERA would have us believe
  7. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 10:08 PM) I'd like him to stay in the lineup and maybe if Rowand continues to slump, he will be in the lineup every day. Dye isn't doing too hot either as of now. ah forgot about Rowand as a possibility. although... has anyone seen if Pods can throw? i'm thinking thats the reason he isnt in CF here.... cannon-less? it would have to be that way, because there's no way i want Everett anywhere but LF.
  8. is staying in this lineup. i know this was brought up before, but it doesnt seem like he's ready to take that nosedive anytime soon. he's in shape, and his early career power looks to be back. i'm thinking he either is our DH against righties..... or he replaces Dye. perhaps Podsednik could go to RF. i'm thinking Dye really needs to pick it up, or else it'll just be silly to have Carl on the bench. anyone converting to this side yet?
  9. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 11:42 PM) Cotts will be down below an era of 5 soon enough and he's our worst reliever s***, I'm happy. this comment was on track. listen, the back of your bullpen is never going to be great. even great teams have some mediocre relievers. i've seen far worse than Neal Cotts, and as our second best lefty, i think we could do a lot worse. there are vet lefties who are still in this league only because they can throw hard. at least you can say that Cotts is a work-in-progress.... but even as is, you can do worse. people here are pretending like he's never gotten us out of an inning.
  10. Score670's Dan Bernstein claims Maggs is significantly less husky this year. hmm..... i'll have to get a good look whenever he returns. then again if he keeps hitting .000 he'll never be on SC
  11. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) As happy as I am with the fact we are winning, I am a little concerned about Paulie and Jermaine Dye. those are the guys you dont mind having in early slumps..... eventually they'll come around. i was worried about Iguchi and Pods... so far so good. well... i was also worried about Crede, but i'm not holding my breath on that one....
  12. QUOTE(That funky motion @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 04:06 PM) I hope this is nothing to worry about!! well Lee is LHP, so it could be more on account of that
  13. sure it's too early to be certain about this.... but when Thomas eventually comes back..... who would you least mind seeing benched? in my view it wouldnt necessarily have to be Everett, who is one of our liveliest bats right now. he could play left.... either Pods or Rowand could be benched or platooned in CF. Dye is another possibility, and of course Big Frank himself. you could rotate people around.... although having Pods and Everett platooning (both mainly lefties) doesnt make that much sense. we need a right handed bat on the bench, if you ask me..... so maybe that is Everett, but I might actually not mind as much if it's Dye or Thomas. Then again, Thomas is at his worst is often good for a walk, so it's hard to imagine him not being our fulltime DH.
  14. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Apr 11, 2005 -> 06:20 PM) Have you forgotten your true love? as Red Kerr might say, he can really stroke it. this i somehow do not doubt.
