  1. it sure would be bad to have Buehrle and Garland both go
  2. i've gotta say Patterson makes sense.... the only one i would switch is Politte for Marte not that i think Marte has been awful or anything, but it's time to credit Cliff ........ middle relievers barely get noticed , their only chance is something like this!
  3. QUOTE(Brian @ May 16, 2005 -> 10:26 AM) Mary Steenburgen is like the default frazzled wife for all movies
  4. and not the Carlos Lee dive...... which makes up for the ground he would be able to cover as a normal fielding OF
  5. ho, and the defense... diving catch
  6. ah, had my music up too loud for that one.
  7. I seriously thought George Offman was a gimmick.......... i almost still do.
  8. havent heard "UH-OH!" in a few calls....... Uribe's today was a puzzling: "OFFENSE! INSTANT! ONE RUN!" Wha-ha? Is that English? I'm tellin you all, he doesnt have a HR call.... he just says what pops into his head at that moment. it just happened to be "UHOH!" everytime for a few weeks
  9. maybe this sounds odd, but i'm just glad to see that he still isnt walking people. i'll live with performances like today, where he says 'here it is hit it'..... even when they do hit it, i prefer this approach to the problems from last year where he would not challenge people i dont see him ever being an absolutely unhittable type guy..... but if he's going to go about things the way he has in every start this year..... he's got a spot in my rotation as long as he wants it
  10. he's really setting people up way better this year, not doing the things that drove Hawk mad last year.
  11. YEA BUT OH MY GOD NEAL COTTS IS LIKE SO HORRIBLE AND I HATE HIM
  12. hell, if you want to motivate Konerko... if he continues struggling....... the best way might be to loan Frank a glove. i'd really like to keep Everett in the lineup but off the field. he's pretty much a DH at this point in his career. and Frank... even if he isnt hitting, he's always going to get on base for you. pitchers have a funny way of getting scared of HoFers....
  13. i dont know that i'd shake things up quite yet, also because we have it staggered L-R-L-R when we face righties.... which i'd rather leave untouched
  14. ugh. he the second lefty. look around the league........... there are a lot of s***tier lefties. the second lefty is rarely anything that special Cotts can throw some heat, and he's young. he has gotten us out of innings. this is better than a lot of the crappy bullpen lefties i've had to survive. not every pitcher you have is going to be flawless plus i'm in favor of Guillen using Cotts as much as he can now, because last year Marte had a dead arm. this year Marte's arm is back, and i want to preserve it for the 162
  15. i guess we now have a new way for Everett and Thomas to both be on the field...... and Everett could still DH....... j.k, no fielding for Frank this year. not even in interleague.
  16. why the really low grades for Cotts? i mean, a C i could understand.... but he's your second best lefty, so i dont know what you exactly expect from that slot he's better than a lot of the Felix Heredias (Gah) that are just barely hanging around in this league.

  18. ah good, i was waiting for the john kruk one-testicle comment to come up. i didnt want to have to be the one that went there he is right though, considering the size of this market. since he has called us out and (in several threads here) gotten our attention, i see it as only a good thing. chicago baseball fans probably should feel stupid for not supporting the one good team in town.
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 2, 2005 -> 12:10 AM) If Steve Stone is willing to take a job on the south side...I want him. Best color man in baseball. well that would actually be the ultimate F U to the Cubs management...... but then again do we have a booth big enough to hold the amount of baseball information inside Stone and Hawk's brains? plus he gets like $500,000 to do like a few days a week for the Score.... dont know if that would keep him from taking a job
  20. i very much doubt this was actually preplanned HR call.... i seriously think it's just what runs thru his mind every time a HR happens.
  21. i'll start by saying i'm not a DJ hater... while it's true he is not that proficient of an announcer..... i actually have to say i like that. for that reason, he's more likely to actually say what he's thinking.... a truly honest announcer is a rare thing. especially on the North Side, now that Stone is gone. and i like Hawk, but he's King of Homers. so anyway i like DJ, in general. That said, WOW does he need a new home run call. every time we homer, and DJ is doing playbyplay.... i actually find myself cringing, hoping he doesnt say "YUH-OH!!!!! BYE-BYE!!!!" But he always does. i really like Sox HRs, so please please we need DJ off the play-by-play. i dont know if Hawk is starting to scale back his work or what.....
  22. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 11:51 AM) He completely ignores the fielding behind that pitching. I've pointed it out earlier. A big part of the 9-2 record in 1 run games is attributed to DPs & timely outs. I would say the timely outs have been more beneficial to the defense than the timely hits have been to the offense. in Chris Rock voice: thats something youre sup-POSED to do. solid fielding isnt something to put us over any teams..... it just brings us into an echelon of winners. you really think that great fielding will put us over Minnesota? all Neyer is saying is that Minnesota is tops right now, and i cant disagree.... unless we pick it up in several areas. same with the point about the catchers calling games give up the hits and walks we have... and fielding/game-calling wont matter that much. obviously that stuff is key, but the argument here is what will make your team best in the division.
  23. i mean.... El Duque and Contreras have had great 'earned run games'.... but with high hits and walks, etc. now, you can write that off to "great defense" or "clutchness" or whatever....... but if you're honest with yourself..... you know that their sub-3.00 ERAs do not mean the same thing as when Randy Johnson has a sub-300 ERA. i'm not calling those escapes from jams "luck".... but enough of these 6 inning starts and the bullpen will have a shared dead arm in no time. i love what's been happening so far........ but to me, it's a bit much to christen this as a dominating staff. it just isnt. this staff is deep, but it's just not one of those staff's that will carry a mediocre offense. we are going to have to start hitting if we plan on having Neyer be wrong.
