  1. seems like we are taking a page from the bears playbook... we're giving this one away
  2. I've noticed several lengthy posts on this webpage and others on "bandwagon fans." I 've also heard quite a lot about it on the radio as well. My feeling is that the number of "bandwagon fans" WAY WAY WAY overestimated. Generally, the media (in this town and nationally) have cynically downplayed the number of white sox fans in chicago for at least a decade. Even if the sox didn't draw 35k a night, the sox still had a close 40% of the city call themselves sox fans. At 40%, thats still a s***load of people. Now the sox are in the ALCS, and for the first time in a long time, the media actually has to start covering them. Suddenly, they look around and say "wait a second... there are actually a lot of people that like this team." Rather than admit that their shallow preconceptions were wrong, its just much easier to say that the bandwagon is in full effect. I'm sure there are a few bandwagoner's coming along for the ride. But my general feeling is that they are much fewer than we all think. The media and casual observers are notorious for refusing to admit their past mistakes. I went to a game last week, and it was nothing like the type of bandwagon crapola they are used to on the north side. Like all sox fans I know, everyone around me was very knowledgable and had clearly been following the team for a long portion of their lives. just my two cents Abe
  3. Bernie Mac is a big sox fan... ... Fox (the network for whom he works) made him sing the 7th inning stretch on a Fox broadcast at Wrigley one day. He refused to sing "root root root for the cubbies" Also, I swear I saw Carl Lewis at a home game earlier this year in a sox jersey
  4. CSN better have this on replay tonight
  5. I wish the Chicago FD would sound the emergency alarms on the southside... just for ole times sake
  6. SHA NA NA NA SHA NA NA NA HEY HEY HEY GOODBYE! 05 Division Champs
  7. this is killing me... I should have called in sick
  8. Man I wish I had taken the day off.... I feel like I'm missing everything
  9. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 12:35 PM) Anyone else smiling uncontrollably? I feel good... i feel real good.
  10. Just to through it out to any other sox-fan lawyers out there... doesn't the plaintiff need to show that a municipality acted willfully and wantonly here? The governmental tort immunity clause should prevent the plaintiff from making a negligence case. My guess is that it would be pretty tough to show that the city acted intentionally. I'd be surprised if the plaintiff managed to keep Chicago in this suit.
  11. I think hawk needs to not hold so much back and tell us what he really thinks
  12. I really don't think a 3 year 30 million dollar deal is gonna get it done. ...i'd be thrilled if it did, but I doubt it
  13. IF this is true, then you can bet that an AJ Burnett trade isn't gonna happen for five or six days. It seems clear that the Red Sox don't want part with Arroyo.... So who else is gonna trade a signed starting pitcher for an unsigned starting pitcher? All the contenders need the starter's presently in their rotations. Toronto would be wasting money, Twins won't add payroll, A deal with the Yanks would result in a salary increase for Florida. From their perspective, there is no reason to trade until all their options are exhausted... which would be on July 31st. Until then, maybe someone else will surprise them and make a deal. But if nobody else comes up with anything, they'll just have to take the sox trade offer. Realistically, nobody is going to make them a contender for the world series... so my guess is that the speculation is a waste of time until about noon on July 30th.
  14. QUOTE(soxfan3530 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 02:34 PM) wow 47 pages and 36 members reading. damn all this speculation. this thing needs to get done so we can all move on with our lives. No kidding... I've got to take the bar exam tommorow...
  15. Alright I hesitate to speculate like this... but consider the following. If this trade goes through as reported the sox would essentially have: 6 Quality Starting Pitchers (assuming count is not part of the deal) 4 Quality outfielders 2 Quality Third basemen Plus, if Frank gets healthy, the starting situation is even more tenuous. To me, thats an awlful lot of talent to have on the bench. I wonder if a second contingent deal isn't already being considered. It strikes me that an ideal trading partner to the sox would be a team who has a crappy, aging 3B and (lets call him David Bell) and only four bonafide SPs (hypothetically padilla, myers, lidle, lieber). said team might be able to offer us some help... oh maybe at RP....
  16. Lets not count our chickens befor they hatch. I wouldn't exactly call it a done deal yet... Many deadline trades have seemed imminent, only to have cash considerations nix all the speculation. Three days ago, Burnett to Baltimore seemed like a done deal when cash considerations (over the very same player) blew the trade up. Its possible that Florida only wants to give up three million over two years and the sox want 12. So lets wait and see
  17. If we are truly getting Lowell in this deal, this is Konerko's last season on the southside...
  18. My dream white sox acquisition is me.... I'm ready to suit up...
  19. dream scenario... wickman gives up a slam... Podsednik hits the winning home run... Then takes francona's hat and jumps up and down on it...
