It's not that difficult. Add some guys who belong on a big league field and you'll win a few games even if the team is horsebleep. Before Pham and Mendick and the recent moves we had zero reason to be interested. Now it appears we're getting close to being just one of many bad teams in the league not historically bad.

You forgot Sheets…they legit have like 5 DH guys.  I mean he can’t hit but…based on his defensive performance so far, AV may best be categorized as a DH too.

Anytime you can roster a DH that hits righty, has a trailer hitched to him, and has an OPS of 450 you do that.

Im sorry but this lineup is awesome

    Lopez hitting .203

Pham hasn’t played in 6 months and isn’t a CF

    Grossman at .184

    Eloy hitting .200

    AV hitting .170 and isn’t actually a 1b

Beni hitting .165 lackadaisical in LF and noodle arm

Mendick…maybe the best player in the lineup?  At least hitting .235 and not defensive liability?

DeJong only hitting .211 but at least appears to be an MLB professional, 2nd best in lineup.

Maldonado hitting .048 🤣.  Cant frame pitches, throw, or block but like the way he “puts the fingers down.”  😂

29 year old starter is a career 5+ ERA and has only been under 6 in 2021 and 2022

TB -240 is a pretty crazy line in Major League Baseball but probably justified.  Know where my money is going.

When I do an OOTP fantasy draft I do a complete tank. At best I'll grab like two or three MLB starting caliber player in the first 10 rounds. The rest will all be top 50 type prospects until I let the CPU take over around round 40 or AAAA guys that will be on a league min deal.

Those teams usually win around 40-60 games still.

Congrats Sox, you have replicated my OOTP strategy IRL on accident, in a year you can't get the #1 pick, and unlike me you're not gonna spend 20 million in the international period either cause you're too stupid to put the payroll savings into future cheap teams.

Does anyone know the White Sox record for being shut out in a season?  I believe 33 (being the worst of all time)is the cardinals record

Pretty sure I read it's 21. So we're going to break it by August.

  5. I think I first heard about the site referred to as "the other site" (or similar) on WSI, where I was a lurker but didn't really feel in tune with the place (I was 20-21 at the time and WSI was mostly middle aged and older types) so did some googling and registered here. It's cool that I got on right at the start of the title year.

Not so cool I'm now an old middle aged type.

Pham has played 21 games in CF since 2018....

And these dumbasses throw him right out there in his first game on the roster. You have to laugh at the ridiculousness of it all.

    He'll get hurt, book it.

I know they won’t but a fucking beat reporter needs to press Getz on this.  I want to hear him even try to make this make sense.

    2024 Charlotte stats:

Colas, 25 years old, .246 BA

Deloach, 25 years old, .268 BA

Ortega, 32 years old, .241 BA

Last year for Fletcher at AAA:

    25 years old, .291 BA

It’s not like Ortega is some defensive stud.  This legit makes zero sense. It’s a lost season and the former director of player development, now GM, is calling up a bunch of MLB journeyman in their 30s trying to hang on for one last chance in the show instead of young guys to get a team to 55 wins instead of 50.

Optimistic. At this point I think they are literally trying to do one thing: not set the all time loss record. That is their only goal.

Fletcher for Mena is already a horrid trade. Was the day it was made. Fletcher seems to be more AAAA fodder like Sosa.

Was willing to give Fletcher a shot but other than being lefty he has no tools. Statcast data is middling at best, production worse.

This is the most alarming thing about Getz & Pedro IMO.  Especially Getz, he apparently doesn’t understand that when you assemble a roster with a bunch of try-hards…the minute it starts to go south, they start pressing, and become even worse.  They immediately turn from fringe MLB players to guys that don’t belong on a AAA roster.  Pedro’s response seems to be having them work harder in the cage, in the pen, on the field, etc.  That’s what I thought was funny when he initially said he wasn’t going to watch the eclipse.  Bro, you manage a last place team, you can take 5 minutes to go watch an exceptionally rare occurrence.  He should have these dudes in the club popping bottles and going to Top Golf, then tell them to fucking hit a home run every at bat.  At least then they’d loosen the f*** up and maybe be able to hit .200.  Thats why I can be convinced that Ozzie could take over.  At least then, it would borderline be a reality show and mildly entertaining.

You're spot on, couldn't agree more. The last thing a team full of try hard dopes like Vaughn needs is some tightass manager.

I don’t see an issue with anything he said here.  Essentially he said the players are working hard but talent matters.  Especially when he mentions that the Braves were different because they “knew they were better.”  He basically says the Sox are a roster assembled of a bunch of try-hards and that s%*# doesn’t work in professional sports.  Especially baseball.  In basketball, if you maximize effort, with a coach like Thibs and sell out defensively, you can at least be relatively successful.  In football, a smart coach can get pretty far with subpar talent with good scheming and scouting.  In hockey you can out condition your opponents and hit the s%*# out of them, you can do pretty well.  In soccer, when you are over-matched severely you go into a low block and bunker.  In baseball…if a guy can’t hit a breaking ball, he can’t hit a breaking ball.  I don’t care what you do, Gavin Sheets or Eloy will never be serviceable outfielders.  The pitchers just don’t have an MLB level of velocity and/or “stuff.” Baseball is much more predicated on natural talent.  Good players are going to win at a higher rate over mediocre players and coaching than in the other sports.  The current Sox players and coaches aren’t even close to mediocre and this is the result.

Well no s%*#. Someone alert the GM and owner.

Sold false hope by the White Sox? Well I never....

f*** this guy. What exactly did he think was going to happen? Nobody forced him to sign with Chicago. He'll be lucky to get 50 PA the rest of his career in the MLB. f*** off, only Sox fans can trash the franchise, this guy is just another bum we wasted time, money and a 40 man spot on.

I think the organization began its free-fall when Kenny Williams was kicked upstairs and replaced as GM by Rick Hahn.

He had his detractors, but KW was arguably the greatest GM in Sox history, winning a WS and three AL Central titles during his run as GM from 2001 to 2012. They finished second in five other seasons and at .500 or better nine times under Kenny, putting together a 1,014-931 record during his stint as GM.

The KW teams were great fun to watch, even when flawed. And that showed by attendance, which averaged at around 2.5 million between 2005 and 2011.

KW was an excellent evaluator of major league talent, and was able to acquire undervalued talent who made a difference -- A.J. Pierzynski, Jermaine Dye, Freddy Garcia, Carlos Quentin, Juan Uribe and dozens more.

Imagine if he had been able to swing the deal with the Marlins for Miguel Cabrera for (reportedly) Josh Fields, Gio Gonzales and (maybe) Jon Garland back in 2007! KW had that deal sewed up - the only reason that didn't happen is because JR didn't want to take on Dontrelle Willis's salary, which the Marlins insisted on. The Tigers did accept that salary, and the rest is history.

But the bottom dropped out under Hahn, who had only one really good year during his tenure -- 2021. (I don't count the Covid year). Despite having higher annual budgets than KW, Hahn's teams underperformed year after year. He followed up KW's stellar run with a 716-846 record, a barren farm system and consistently dwindling attendance.

KW was much more effective than the overrated Roland Hemond as GM. Only Ron Schueler and the late 40s/50s/early 60s GMs (Frank Lane, Chuck Comiskey, Hank Greenberg, Ed Short) could approach Kenny's record. (Larry Himes built the great early 90s teams, but was forced out before he could enjoy their success).

Kenny did a good job overall. He was also allowed to spend on contract in a way his followers have and will not be. It was a fun time to be a Sox fan growing up. Ever since I turned 30 it's been putrid and that was a decade ago now.

Something has to change with how our how our hitters prep.  How does Eloy not know by now that sweeper/slider away is all he will see?  All of our hitters swing at garbage of the plate and takes strikes down the middle.  Contrast that to opposing hitters who seem able to lay off anything that is not in the zone.  Are our pitchers that bad, or are opposing hitters just better prepared?

I said the same fucking thing yesterday. FOR TWO YEARS ELOY HAS SEEN GARBAGE AWAY TO START ABs!

He's almost always down in the count because of it. Like do we have a single fucking coach that can work with him on IDing how pitchers attack his weaknesses? Come the f*** on this is MLB you're all being very well compensated to be at the pinnacle of the profession DO YOUR JOB.
