... it's about time
QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 08:52 PM) In old school ball, yeah that makes sense.. But, when you are making 12.5 Million, is it a big deal to you, esp when it isn't a "walk" year? I agree they should, but does that do anything anymore, is my question? If it's not a big deal to Alexis...then he can sit down until it is.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 08:51 PM) Afraid to go back on pop ups too. Four or five dropped in that should not have. That's mostly because the LF can't field and doesn't call people off so he never knows if he's about to be run over. No fair blaming him for Pierre being bad.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 08:43 PM) It will be interesting to see how that effects the results. I believe in some metrics, I also beleive in the eye test. Alexei could win the GG every year, but he makes too many plays like the 2 he made tonight. Its going to happen once in a while, but he is so afraid of baserunners its almost pathetic. If it wasn't for the careless plays he'd win the GG easy (or at least deserve Jeters GG). But that doesn't mean he's had a bad season. Morel Walked!!!!!!

The 2012 Rotation
QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 08:39 PM) So no team isn't going to Overpay for a FA SP.. ??? I agree he doesn't deserve it, my point is.. I think some GM will overpay for him. No team is going to overpay the yearly rate for Mark Buehrle.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 08:40 PM) The point the objectors to Ozzie are making is even if he had to play Rios and Dunn to "get them out of their slumps", he didn't need to be putting them in the spots usually reserved for run producers. And if they weren't...give them a week off. Or if they don't hustle...stop giving them playing time!

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 08:38 PM) So they look at them with their eyes? And base whether or not the out should have been made based on positioning, speed, and distance. In a few years there will be computer data on player positioning at the start of plays and batted ball velocity that will make this easy. (Field F/X).

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 08:36 PM) Not when it comes to shortstop play. He is not as good as he could be, but he's still one of the best in the league and the best we've had save maybe 05 Uribe.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 08:36 PM) How is range factor determined? I believe that one is outs produced divided by chances. That one is 5 years out of date anyway. For things like UZR they actually review plays like the ones you're talking about to see if a play could have been made.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 08:30 PM) Defensive metrics are unreliable. 75% of overturned death penalty convictions involve overturning eewitness testimony. Metrics are a lot more reliable than your eyes.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 08:29 PM) Metrics don't measure the 2 plays he just blew. He was afraid of the baserunner so no DP. He dropped an out, SB no error. He often sets up for a throw to second way in front of 2B. He's a wuss. A very talented wuss who could be awesome if he wasn't so afraid of possible contact. Yes they actually do measure those now. Not fielding percentage but the modern ones do.

The 2012 Rotation
QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 08:26 PM) I would challenge that thought, Mark would be the "prize" SP on the market going into this year's FA class. I can see some team "reaching" to get him. In a normal market, where he is the 3-4th best.. sure, I can see your point. Go look at his advanced stats. Right now he's getting fair value for his performance this season. If he limits himself to a few teams, even less.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 08:25 PM) Ramirez just doesn't pay attention to detail. He's had a bad year defensively. No he hasn't. Pick your metric. They all disagree.

... it's about time
QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 08:21 PM) I have question in regards to this... How does a player get out of slump if he is not in said lineup? I also in the minority in this thread, I don't think Ozzie is the #1, 2 or 3 problem with this club. He is more like #4 Brent Lillibridge got into and out of a slump while on the bench.

The 2012 Rotation
Even on the FA market, Buehrle would not make more than Peavy.

GT: JFP's Last Stand? Sox @ Twins, 09/06, 7:10 PM
Ozzie said this could be Peavys last start of the year, according to Bert

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 08:11 PM) No one has blamed Ozzie for Dunn and Rios. They may blame him for them being in the line up too long or too high in the line up for too long. I'll bite the bullet here. Dudes came to Chicago and stank. Either they aren't listening to the coaches or they're not working hard or they're not even in shape. All of those reflect on the coaching staff.

2011 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 08:10 PM) Stras appears to be really focused in on pitching to contact. Only 35 pitches through 3 scoreless innings so far. How's the velocity?

Looking ahead to the 2012 roster
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 06:48 PM) I think you can have a mixture. Quentin and Danks value is lower because of free-agency in 2013. If the Yankees go out in the first round, I'd imagine they'd give up a decent amount for him. Particularly if the Red Sox were in the bidding as well. Simply naming teams doesn't change my point. If you're trying to take on young talent, then you're going to need to give that young talent some time to develop and likely struggle at the big league level. Think about Jon Danks and Gavin Floyd in 2007, Gordon Beckham the last 3 years, Zach Stewart's last few starts, etc.

The 2012 Rotation
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 05:35 PM) That may be true, but if Sale starts the season in the minors for any reason, they aren't in the running for anything. Did you see how Sale started this season? He took 2 months of the season to really find his release point. His ERA in the spring was 6.48. He might well need time to get himself back into the groove of starting from this season.

Looking ahead to the 2012 roster
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 06:39 PM) You don't think you can get a good return for the players I'd trade? If you want a good return then you're not getting back players who can contribute in 2012. If you want players who can contribute in 2012, you're getting a weak return.

... it's about time
QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 05:59 PM) You really don't seem to take the time to read and understand. I will try one last time. IMHO Ozzie alone did not cause this team to miss the playoffs. For that matter, Dunn alone did not prevent this team from making the playoffs. I would rather have a good manger managing players having a good season, but if one group, coaches or players are going to have a bad year, I'd rather it be the coaches. Some people want a computer in the dugout, churning out decisions. While that would probably have been much better than Ozzie this season, it still wouuldn't make up for poor play from a large chunk of the team. I believe the KW - Ozzie tandem needs to end. I believe Oz should take more of the responsibility for the past couple of seasons than KW. Which logically flows he should be gone. You've said that you believe this is a playoff team with a different manager, we disagree. yet you disagreed when I said some people think this magically becomes a playoff team without Oz. You are a moving target, setting up paper tigers with statements I did not make. Do you believe that a manager can have any impact on a player's performance?
