2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 08:51 AM) Which is like what, 8000 people a night? This would be funnier if the White Sox were outdrawing the Blue Jays by more than 3000 fans a night.

QUOTE (Papa Tru @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 04:50 AM) theres waivers.. im pretty sure the only reason that he was able to sign with them straight up is because he passed through waivers.. Once he passed through waivers his contract was gone and could be renegotiated. FWIW, Meriweather is now the Bears' highest paid safety.

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
Fair to say that the most interesting policy exchange last night was Rick Perry calling Social Security a joke and a ponzi scheme and Mittens saying that it needed tweaks but protection?

"I hope we don't get swept by the Tigers"
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 01:06 AM) Do you guys think there's any way Ozzie returns? I'd say it's 50/50 at worst. It's gonna be up to the Chairman.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 03:55 AM) This is probably the first time he's ever drawn heavy criticism. No, it's not. The people in Torotno criticized him for failing to give effort or work hard all the time.

... it's about time
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 12:55 AM) I've been talking to a lot of baseball fans outside of Chicago and ask them what their perception is of Ozzie Guillen. They all say that he is a good manager. I ask them all if they can understand why a message board I frequent wants him fired and believes he will be fired. They say, 'No.' If we finish .500, folks, Ozzie being fired will be perceived as unfair nationally. Of course, the counterpoint to that is that survey a couple years ago that found Ozzie was the 2nd most disliked manager in baseball, next to Pinella, who is no longer managing in baseball.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 10:07 PM) That's just the tip of the iceberg. Morel was on a pace to have the fewest walks in a season. That would be fine if he were a pitcher. Morel has a bunch of walls lately. 7 in the last 2 weeks. This is of course what I've been saying the whole time... Development takes time

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 10:01 PM) rookie jitters maybe or thinking he was overmatched by the pitcher? I think he was focusing on taking the ball to right and making contact rather than trying to drive the ball.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 09:54 PM) I wonder if it is relative to Kenny jumping on Walker. I think everyone including the announcers got on him for being too tentative.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 09:06 PM) BTW, starting Omar instead of Escobar at 2nd is a disgrace. Yeah, I can't even get annoyed enough to make a sarcastic remark in reply.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 08:52 PM) He has to hit .400 in OG eyes I guess. No, that's way too good. He needs to hit about .130 to move upwards.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 08:48 PM) Rios hit into a DP. That has to be Greg Walker's fault. Just think how good things will be when Viciedo hits well enough that he can move in front of Rios.

QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 07:16 PM) I didn't think so..I didn't like the Pen at all from March on.. I didn't like the fact we let Putz go, an experienced closer. I thought the Pen would be our donwfall.. I didn't think the offense would be a problem. The pen has been, for the most part, a strength.

Are the Phillies that good?
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 07:48 PM) I don't even hate them, that's the thing. Just have no fun watching a team that is far and away more talented than every team they play. We call this the Miami Heat effect.

Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
It sounds like talks have broken down as Forte seems to have wanted a deal closer to the $45 million/$21 guaranteed that D'Angelo Williams got (as a full free agent) earlier this summer.

Looking ahead to the 2012 roster
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 06:10 PM) I'm worried about the 2nd starter in that group. You have a lot of faith in Stewart and Humber. Too much. If that happens to actually be the 2013 rotation, it's total price tag will be $11 million. Counting what we paid to Edwin Jackson, this team spent ~$46 million on its starting rotation this year. I hear Cole Hamels and John Danks will be available that offseason.

Are the Phillies that good?
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 05:51 PM) I know. I don't think Hamels is going anywhere. Brown is definitely a good enough athlete to play CF if Victorino departs. Of course, there's more to it then just being an athlete. And deep playoff runs every year, as you know, = $$$$. Who knows how much fatter their payroll is gonna get. Well...you can only sell out the stadium so many times during a season though.

Looking ahead to the 2012 roster
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 05:52 PM) No depth. I'm not worried about who the 6th starter is in 2013. Nor should you be.

Looking ahead to the 2012 roster
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 05:48 PM) What's their rotation in 2013? As it stands now...Sale, Humber, Stewart, Floyd. Having 4/5 of a rotation penciled in for 2 seasons down the road is not a horrible position to be in.

Are the Phillies that good?
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 05:43 PM) Thing is Halladay and Lee have shown no signs whatsoever of slowing down. They look as if they have at least another 2-3 years of dominance left in them. Howard is only 31. That's by no means old, not for a 1B anyway. You're right about the other three. That middle infield, while still productive, is very fragile. And Oswalt is just about done. But then you've got Hamels, Victorino, Pence, Worley (obviously I'm not sure if he's legit), Mayberry, Bastardo, Brown all 30 and under. So it evens out. Hamels and Victorino both hit Free Agency after 2012, and the Phillies already have $80 million committed for 2013 to just 4 guys.
