  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 09:10 AM) And I don't doubt this at all. A year or two with some real coaching, and some discipline would have done him wonders. just remember...that is exactly what the Bulls were offering him last offseason, and he turned it down flat.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 09:09 AM) It makes sense to me that he isn't tough enough mentally, which is why he isn't achieving his full potential on the floor. This is a kid who has always been the best, and has always been told so. It takes some adjustments mentally to realize that you need to grow up and work harder. The problem is...I think he thinks he works hard enough. Remember the 3 pages or so of people defending how insane his workout/yoga routine was we had in last year's thread when this same topic came up?
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 09:15 AM) You don't think this is Ozzie through Oney trying to get a big money extension? It is pretty obvious that is what is going on to me. Midseason where the team is under .500 after going "all in behind the manager"? Even Ozzie and Oney aren't that dumb.
  4. QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 01:46 AM) I think that's the guideline most lists use. Viciedo only has 106 career plate appearances, though. "45 days on the active roster."
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 09:11 AM) It's a close comparison. Their bad contracts are larger than the Sox, but at least they are still getting some production. Soriano is at least hitting homers, Z pitches every 5 days, even Fukudome is at least an average leadoff hitter vs. RHP. Then again, the Sox don't have a Bradley/Silva player who isn't even in the majors. Either way, there's a lot of money being wasted on both sides of town. The other classic on the list is the Mets. Jason Bay is getting paid $16 million this year and has 2 HR.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 08:00 AM) I hate this cat-and-mouse game he is playing. Either way, it's still on Kenny no matter what he says. He is the GM, he controls the roster. If it is his decision to let the manager decide, then it's still on KW if the team doesn't perform. KW controls the roster but he can't force a guy into the lineup. If his manager is insisting that the player in AAA will not play everyday, and the GM doesn't have the authority to fire the manager, then the GM has little recourse.
  7. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 08:51 AM) Um, what? Konerko may be good, but he's not in the same world as Cabrera and is old as f***. No one is going to take on Rios or Peavy's contract just to get Konerko. If you move Konerko, you take the best prospects available. Outside of a huge package, I'd be hesitant to move him though, since I think with a few personal changes and a new manager we can compete in 2012. Yeah, this is correct. You take the best young players you can get for Konerko. Peavy and Rios, unfortunately, are the guys you need to hold onto...they're your "Sunk cost" guys, guys who might be able to pull something together for you next year. If you wanted to trade Rios, last year in June was the only reasonable time. What teams are there in the playoff hunt who could really use a multi-year RH hitting 1b?
  8. QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 07:50 AM) Juan Pierre is making $5 million from the White Sox this year, of course on the MLB team. Dayan Viciedo is making $2.25 million from the White Sox this year, in AAA. Why aren't the Sox worried about getting a return on their investment on Viciedo? Paying someone over $2 million to play in triple A is equal, if not worse than letting Pierre rot in Left Field. Even if the two were mutually exclusive, we'd have reason to question the organization on both events. Because if the White Sox hold Viciedo in the minor leagues longer, they can push back the start of his arbitration and free agency years. For "Return on invesment" that's one way to get a win. Of course, it also costs the team a chance to get a playoff race, which is a very large return on investment.
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 08:29 AM) Wow. I thought it was $3 million. I can't imagine any team in the league having more salary vs production disasters as the White Sox do right now. Pierre, Rios, Teahen, Peavy, Dunn and AJ is making $6 million next year? Horrific. Your imagination needs to look at our current opponent.
  10. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 08:31 AM) I'm honestly convinced that if we called up Viciedo today, he would have an +.900 OPS the rest of the way and would not be prone to massively-long slumps like half of these cowards. He's just a pure hitter and our team desperately needs one of those right now. If you watched DV last year, ther'es clearly going to be an adjustment period/slumps, no matter how much of a pure hitter he is, because pitchers will keep finding new ways to take advantage of his aggressiveness.
  11. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 01:08 AM) You hit it on the head: they clash. KW wants Adam Dunns and Jim Thomes; Ozzie wants Juan Pierres and Mark Kotsays. It's not a productive working relationship anymore because they have such different visions. There was a time when the fact that they clashed was a benefit because it wound up producing a more balanced, capable lineup, rather than the type of 2003-2004 lineup we saw where there were 4 monsters in the center surrounded by 5 weak parts with a depleted pitching staff. For the last few years though, the small quick guy that Ozzie has wanted has not been MLB-worthy. That's the biggest problem...etiher KW isn't getting him guys who deserve to be on a baseball team or Ozzie is asking for guys who don't deserve to be.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 08:49 AM) Ah yes, the old Oney source for Cowley. I don't even think that's an Oney source one, that's "trying to take the fact that there's a marlins vacancy and using it to see if you can make Oney or Ozzie go off."
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 08:52 AM) Um, yes it was. Yeah, there's this "Decent young point guard".
  14. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 10:45 PM) I wish JR would sell last few years it is time. Jr is part of an ownership group. It doesn't work that way.
  15. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 10:41 PM) The Sox have 3 good hitters right now, and they'll need 5 total for the next 3 months to do some damage. For everyone's best interest, those 2 extra guys better be Rios and Dunn. Viciedo could be a 4th.
  16. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 10:39 PM) "demise" would somehow indciate an end to a career. The kid will come around People will stop giving him major league chances if he can't hit a fastball. Demise may not be far away.
  17. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 10:39 PM) If it means anything, Harrell had decent velocity and Bruney looked good. Someone touched on it, but Ohman looked just OK even though he got 6 straight guys out. Ohman will never look good against righties.
  18. QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 10:37 PM) When the Yankees were struggling we could have got Granderson...too late now Wtf? When the yankees were struggling? Like in 2008?
  19. QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 10:22 PM) Never. We wasted an investment on a shmuck when we could have had someone who doesn't need a tennis racket to hit the damn ball. Who, Carlos Pena?
  20. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 10:20 PM) Oh its logical for him. Each year he burns the farm down to go for his small percentage all in he kills the franchise a bit more for long term success. The economics of a medicore team, poor attendance, and a high payroll with large unmoveable contracts turns us into the cubs for a few years. If we grab a young guy for Danks and convince Cooper not to leave, this team can still be back next year.
  21. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 10:19 PM) No football.......... Saturday football is fine with me. If the idiots cannot divide 9 billion i hope they all go down in flames. Saturday football is clearly better, they don't have to worry about dividing anything!
  22. QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 10:18 PM) Two notes: Adam Dunn = Albert Belle The only way the Sox win tonight is if Marmol lays a goose egg. Let's see it happen. f***! I hate losing to the Cubs. I'd take a 50 HR season from Dunn, when will he do that?
  23. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 10:18 PM) Basically, you described Baseball Hell. Looks like 2012 will be another one of those seasons where we're hoping players play up to the expectations because we're sure as hell not doing a lot of trading and FA signings. Maybe we'll at least get some guys who are hungry.
  24. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 10:16 PM) Kenny will burn the farm down for a 10% chance to win the division. He has no long term vision. If his job is on the line, isn't that the logical move for him?
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 10:14 PM) I think this is one of those seasons we'll just go back and forth between .500 and ten games under...can just never over the hump. Not as bad as 2007, but more frustrating...because we're in it "just enough" to keep from doing anything to change our roster or TRY any younger players on an extended basis. No way we stand pat at the deadline if we're close to .500
