  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 15, 2011 -> 08:28 PM) Eric Fuller, 63, who was struck by a bullet in the hail of gunfire in Tucson that killed six and wounded 13 on Saturday, claimed Thursday that conservative figureheads such as Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck and Sharron Angle were to blame for the violence in Arizona. "How many more demented people are out there? It looks like Palin, Beck, Sharron Angle and the rest got their first target," Fuller, a former campaigner for Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), told Democracy Now. "Their wish for Second Amendment activism has been fulfilled -- senseless hatred leading to murder, lunatic-fringe anarchism, subscribed to by John Boehner, mainstream rebels with vengeance for all, even nine-year-old girls," he added, reading from comments he said he had written down while being treated for his wounds. huffingtonpost.com See: 2 posts above you.
  2. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jan 15, 2011 -> 08:24 PM) If the bottle is open the writing will come easier and tends to be of higher quality. This is the long way of describing "geology".
  3. I'm getting a disturbingly large amount of writing done on my Hawaii paper tonight, despite the NFL games on and the whiskey bottle next to me. I'm not sure what this means.
  4. If the Bears WR's could do that it probably saves Cutler 3-4 picks a year.
  5. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 15, 2011 -> 07:54 PM) That it does. But Flacco's been looking like "oh s***" the whole second half. THat throw too.
  6. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 15, 2011 -> 07:42 PM) What a throw by Roethlisberger. That's not a TD, but that's probably game, Flacco is not capable of putting together a comeback drive. 15 yards on the kickoff helps.
  7. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Jan 15, 2011 -> 07:29 PM) What did the ref see there? Seriously? That was a nice block, nowhere near a hold. The defender tripped as he was moving backward. The ref saw a defender fall down while engaged with a blocker, and only saw it from behind the defender, so he assumed that the reason the defender went to the ground was that the blocker brought him down. He couldn't see the blocker's hands or the defender's body.
  8. That's what I mean when I say there are penalties that need to be subject to the red flag.
  9. Terrible f***ing holding call.
  10. Joe Flacco taking a page from the Jay Cutler book about throwing the ball away.
  11. Somehow the fact that this link goes to KGUN...
  12. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 15, 2011 -> 06:40 PM) Bush 41 was the president. You can count on one hand the # of republicans who voted for tax increases in the last 10 or 15 years. And the ones who have done so will lose their primary in a year or so.
  13. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 15, 2011 -> 06:10 PM) Republicans are more foreign policy focused? That is the most broad undefined statement possible. F I think that statement is the gentle way of saying pro-war.
  14. If the Bears had played the exact same first half as the Ravens, everyone would be talking about how the Bears are just getting lucky again.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 15, 2011 -> 05:37 PM) That's not what you argued though. You argued that even if the player produces as much as he is being paid, the Sox still cannot win, because by default, the Sox cannot win if they are paying a premium price. They'd be paying a premium price but they'd be getting production well beyond that price if they got the 2007 Peavy.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 15, 2011 -> 05:22 PM) If you're going to argue that position, and it is indeed true, the White Sox cannot win this year, because of the money they are paying Jake Peavy. If Jake Peavy is only worth $10 million in the fangraphs numbers, it could well be hard for the Sox to win this year, just like last year. You get the 2007 Peavy last year and the Sox are right in it. Instead, they spend a lot of money and didn't get their money's worth.
  17. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 15, 2011 -> 05:24 PM) Wasn't he voted my his peers as dirtiest player in league? Back in 09, yes, link.
  18. This has been a crazy start to this game. The refs decisions are dominating everything. And Tomlin's going to be out of challenges after 1 quarter.
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 15, 2011 -> 05:08 PM) Leave it to you to do this. Fine. Runs are far more valuable now that offensive production is down, and therefore, defense is at more of a premium. Happy? I'll let you have the last word, but my response is built in your words. Defense is "at more of a premium". And teams are paying for defense that way. I think the Yankees can win by paying a premium price for the thing that everyone is paying a premium for. I think teams that are loaded with both new revenue and young, performing talent might be able to win by paying a premium for the thing that everyone is paying a premium for (the Rangers fit here). I think that a team like the White Sox cannot win by winning bidding wars for the thing that everyone is paying a premium for. A team like the White Sox needs to find its value by finding wins that other teams are not willing to pay a premium price for.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 15, 2011 -> 05:02 PM) How about Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Dewayne Wade, Dwight Howard? They are the same era I would think. They have all played on teams that have finished below .500. How many of those though were in those players first year or two, where they really weren't top 10 players?
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 15, 2011 -> 04:49 PM) The reason defense is even MORE important now is because most of the drugs are out of the game, and so there are more balls in play than there were when the drugs were in the game. Really? I just did the math on this and I don't believe so. In 2002, Bonds's year, the average team had 7 more at bats than in 2010. The average team had 24 more hits, but 15 of those were HR. However, in 2010 there were on average 100 more strikeouts per team than in 2002. So, there were about 90 fewer balls in play per team last year than at the peak of the steroid era. And furthermore, that's 90 balls in play out of 5500 at bats, so the difference you're talking about there is very small.
  22. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jan 15, 2011 -> 04:26 PM) PER counts rebounds, steals and blocks, not exactly the greatest indicators of total defensive ability. It has to take some version of +/- into account though doesn't it?
  23. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 15, 2011 -> 04:27 PM) If I was the one who developed that film, I honestly would of called the cops to look into that guy. I understand if the employee just thought it was some kinky freak, they have probably developed worse photos, but still. Do people at Walgreens actually look at pictures they're developing any more, or is it all digital and automated? I'd have thought it was the latter. Especially with a digital camera I don't know you even need a person to get it done.
  24. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 15, 2011 -> 04:28 PM) Honestly, I don't remember him ever being hurt. The SOB kept his mouth shut and took the abuse the whole first half of the season. He didn't complain publicly at all. By 2005 he was saying "Yeah, I felt like crap" the whole 03 season, but he never used that as a public excuse in 2003.
