  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 03:40 PM) Pierre is what he is. He'll get his singles and stolen bases, but he'll also make a ton of outs. He's not the biggest issue with this team, and I'll be surprised if he doesn't lead this team in batting average this season. I will agree he's been a serious issue so far, because he's hitting around .200 on the season. But he's going to pull out of that, and only the fools say he won't.
  2. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 03:39 PM) Like I say above, doesn't matter if he hits .400 when we're 10 games out of first. We needed him these past two weeks and right now. Same goes fro 2-3 others. The Yankees were 6.5 out in the AL East last year on May 12.
  3. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 03:39 PM) Like I say above, doesn't matter if he hits .400 when we're 10 games out of first. We needed him these past two weeks and right now. Same goes fro 2-3 others. The season is not going to be lost in the first 3 weeks.
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxrd5 @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) Yup, that's the guy. The same .300 hitter that couldn't get off the bench for the LA Dodgers. And who basically saved the Dodgers season last year when the $25 million juicer they had starting ahead of pierre got suspended.
  5. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) Just because it could be worse doesn't mean it was good. But you said it was worse! Not that it wasn't good! you said it was "worse"
  6. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) Either way we have him now and he sucks. Doesn't matter how we got him. Just matters that he is a terrible hitter for the White Sox. And he's highly unlikely to stay that way.
  7. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) You're right. That one totally unflawed, non-antiquated statistic sums up the unseen greatness of Juan Pierre. He'll probably be an MVP candidate this year. Either that...or it argues that he's not likely to be a .200 hitter the full season. Clearly, there's no middle ground right?
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 03:35 PM) Pods is 2-3 with another RBI and SB It's amazing how rapidly you became a fan of his when he left this team.
  9. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) Worse, we made a trade for him. Yeah, because the trade of a couple AA ball guys for him and a ton of money was a lot worse than the contract the Dodgers originally signed him for.
  10. QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) You mean the career .300 hitter? Yeah, that's awful.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) Did we really sign him for 2 years? My god. Actually, no, we didn't.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 03:12 PM) Royals explode for 6 runs against the Twins, threaten to win one game. The big question now is whether the middle relief can get the game to Soria or not. Middle relief? It's only the 4th inning, the Twins have already cut it to 7-3.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 03:29 PM) Acta continues to just dominate Guillen this year. We played right into his hands by letting Pierre face the newly inserted Laffey. Pierre has a higher OPS against LHP this year than RHP, and a higher career batting average against LHP.
  14. If you're going to put Quentin in for Kotsay in the 7th, why do you even bother starting Kotsay in the first place?
  15. Beckham just isn't hitting the ball with authority right now.
  16. Simon Johnson and James Kwak on Moyers.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 03:18 PM) Really smart moves thinking Pierre, Teahen and the like would spark us. Mark Teahen has a >.400 OBP. That has been a spark. He's single-handedly won us a game already.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 03:07 PM) KW could have outvoted him on many issues. He didn't. With no real plan, the team should have stood pat one more season offensively. Dye, Thome Pods probably would have figured something out to help keep us at .500 with the chance of faring better if everything went well. Floyd's start today sounds pathetic as well. Really...the solution is Dye and Podsednik...
  19. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 02:57 PM) You don't consider groundouts to second base entertaining? It's fun watching Kotsay fail.
  20. UK, Germany considering actions against GS.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 12:03 AM) lol. So...everything Goldman Sachs does is legal, and no one ever gets assaulted in New Orleans unless they're Republican.
  22. FWIW, so far the police report contains no statements suggesting a political motivation behind the attack and the NOPD has so far denied stating that there was any political motivation.
  23. Friday was clearly the day when the Evil Obama administration decided to use the government to take down all of their honorable enemies.
  24. It's impressive to see the same people who say that the government doesn't need more power and that the regulators just didn't do their jobs in the buildup to the crisis rise up to attack the government when the SEC tries to actually do some limited enforcement.
