QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 01:18 PM) He's not going to win the GOP nomination, that's become clear. So if he wants to run for re-election he has no choice but to run as an I. It's not official but I'd say it's pretty much accepted thats whats happening. At least to my eyes, this fact was obvious 2-3 months ago. Which is why I asked if it was confirmed. Yeah, the deadline is now approaching, but he could have done that move a couple months ago.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 12:58 PM) Yes, Mark Buehrle's no hitter. /thread.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 12:06 PM) Steelers fans are FREAKING OUT because Ben has apparently been put on the trading block for a top 10 pick. One team is apparently interested, and I'm guessing it's Seattle or Oakland. LOL, with that suspension I'm not sure I'd give up a first round pick for him. I could see the Bills having interest as well.

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 12:45 PM) Yeah, I'm sure the Padres are excited about dealing with the White Sox real soon. The Padres look to have been the 5th most profitable team in MLB last year prior to paying interest/debt on their stadium.

Jon Gilmore: 10 Game Tease or Breakout Candidate?

QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 10:14 AM) Just the fact that the Braves dumped him off so quickly makes me feel that there's little chance that he'll amount to anything. And look what the Braves gave up for a few month rental in Teixeira? -
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 12:17 PM) So Charlie Crist is going to abandon the GOP primary for Senate in Florida after polls show him turning a 25 point lead into a 25 point deficit in Florida's open Senate seat race. Is that official?

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 10:15 AM) I've seen him do it for years from time to time- take a look at some of the old highlights from 05 etc you will see it... I miss the "Lean back" he led off each pitch with that we saw at the end of 2005.

The yearly Forbes revenue/expenditure/team value numbers are out. According to these data, the Sox are actually in the upper part of the league in terms of earnings/income last year, in no small part due to them holding very little debt.

Last week, Sue Lowden, the leading Republican Challenger to Harry Reid in Nevada, earned some deserved scorn for saying that she thought part of the Republican solution to Health Care was to "go ahead and barter with your doctor". Most people laughed at this and thought that she must have meant "Bargain" because, you know, the barter system would be like me bringing in a barrel of coffee beans and offering that up as a price. Not that bargaining with your doctor is good policy anyway, but still, not nearly that ridiculous. Turns out...she meant barter. "I'll paint your house for a colonoscopy".

The Arizona State House just passed a bill requiring the President to show his birth certificate to that state if he wants to appear on the 2012 ballot.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 09:15 AM) Kotsay would be DFA'd on most teams by now. No, he wouldn't. He'd be stuck at the end of the bench, but you don't DFA a backup being paid $1 million to be your backup 1b because he has a bad first 25 at bats.

Thankfully, these are some of the most powerful people in the country.

Theo Epstein gave the Red Sox a profanity laden rant.

Jets are looking to deal Alan Faneca and Kellen Clemens to add draft picks. Both may be possible cuts if they can't find a partner.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 12:01 AM) Miami actually looks really, really tough next year. I love Chad Henne. I think the AFC East is going to be fun next year. I expect the Bills to finish in last place again, but atleast they look like they might be an exciting football team if they get a QB...though he's not the answer, Jason Campbell would be a great pickup for a team that has f***ing Trent Edwards, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Brian Brohm as their QBs. Maybe trade a 4th round pick that can escalate to a 3rd or 2nd based on performance in next year's draft and then dump one of Edwards and Fitzpatrick. Or take another QB in the draft and dump both of them. The Bills finally seem like they're committing to rebuilding through the draft under this regime, which is exactly what they need to do. Now they just need to stop horribly sucking in the draft. I think Campbell could probably be had for a 5th.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 06:23 PM) Actually one of the realignment ideas has to do with revenue. You would be in the same division as economic peers. Then the rest of the league would be complaining about how they couldn't compete with the Rays.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 06:05 PM) The Pirates have finished higher than 27th in attendance only once since 2002 and that year they were 22nd. The team is 7-5, drew only 13,860 fans yesterday, 14,000 on friday night and is still 24th in attendance this year, why haven't we contracted them? The only difference for the Pirates is that they're not staring up at the Yankees/Red Sox. I don't think any of these teams ought to be contracted. If the Rays prove anything, it's that you can build a competitive team in the AL East if you're smart about how you do so. It's a little harder on the Jays/Orioles than it is on the Pirates/Royals, but it's management issues/silly contracts that have killed attendence. The one worry for baseball as a whole is that these decades at the bottom really do make a fan base start to atrophy, such that they're not going to come back every year once you turn things in the right direction.

Pittsburgh just traded for Byron Leftwich. Gave up a 7th round pick. Probably a Big Ben suspension backup plan. Redskins traded a 5th rounder for DT Adam Carriker. Almost as if they expect that they're about to dump a different DT.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 05:22 PM) 2. Corrupt or not, Daley has been a highly effective mayor, and helped Chicago go through a 20 year renaissance as a city that few other US cities have ever seen. He's been very, very good for the city, overall. Which is why everyone sort of ignores the corruption.

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 05:55 PM) They had only 10k fans for an indoor game last night when there's no Maple Leafs game or any other sporting event going on. This is a team that started 6-2 and is still above .500 now. It's also a fanbase that has languished behind the Yankees and Red Sox for >15 years now and who had their team's equivalent of Mark Buehrle dealt for prospects in the offseason. If you're contracting the Blue Jays, you have to take the Orioles too.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 02:48 PM) The names you don't see popping up yet but would be interesting: Buehrle, Peavy, Rios, and, to a much lesser extent advisable...Danks KW would have to resign after trading MB.
