Twins have a 9-0 lead on Cleveland/

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 05:04 PM) This will sound like heresy, but Quentin needs some work too. Not NEARLY as much obviously, but you can see in his average vs. lefties. When Walker tried to mess around with his positioning in early June, everyone got furious because Q's numbers dropped a bit. Of course, Q was also dealing with a bad hand or something at that point, but it was still clearly walker's fault.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 05:03 PM) Good discussion. Now hopefully Walker can make the right adjustment to Fields or Anderson (both would be fantastic). I still say the rebuilt swing from Anderson looks mighty fine, although I'm not a hitting coach. He just hasn't had the playing time to really get it working.
-
Hopefully Danks didn't lose focus while Verlander was out there throwing all those pitches.
-
Pitches for Verlander by inning: 1st: 18 2nd: 27 3rd: 38 Bash Greg Walker all you want...this is a team game plan on a pitcher and it's working brilliantly.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 03:50 PM) That was a good pitch by Verlander, just a tremendous swing by Dye. 56 pitches for Verlander right now (0 outs in the 3rd). What pitch count are you looking at? Gameday has him at 70 after Thome's foul ball.
-
Hehe.
-
Don't say this every day...but I just adore the approach we've taken at the plate so far.
-
Verlander has thrown 45 pitches through 2. That was a 27 pitch inning there in the 2nd for him. I like this game plan a hell of a lot better than the first pitch swinging against goggles last night.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 03:10 PM) Alexei looks so ghetto in those unis. And a very nice, quick inning for Danks. How many pitches? 7 or 8. 8
-
Made him throw 18 pitches in the first. That's a start.

QUOTE (tommy @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 03:04 PM) 2 out single for Q Always nice to get that first hit when you're facing Verlander.
-
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 01:07 PM) I'd have liked Anderson out there, as he's actually got a couple of hits against Verlander and would be better out there in that huge CF, but PK def needed to sit today. Every time I feel like getting annoyed that Wise is playing over Anderson when there's a righty in, it seems like he does something positive with the bat to shut me up.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 02:46 PM) Ive always been a Floyd fan, and last night really impressed me. He did not have his best stuff, he had some bad defensive plays, and he still only gave up 4 runs. i think hes turned the corner and will be a consistent pitcher from here on out. Id be fine with Halladay type talent for him (because when you think about what we traded for Floyd its insane to think we turned him into Halladay) but at the same time unless we are getting something that solid id pass. Especially with both Crede and Contreras now out...there aren't a whole lot of players in baseball that I'd be willing to move Floyd and Fields for. Halladay is on the level where you'd have to say yes. If you're going to move guys now who are covering key spots for the big league team though, you need to feel like you're coming out of the deal a winner. Which means you need something like Halladay. Something big.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 01:46 PM) I thought the suit was pulled when the city and ownership agree on a settlement which essentially kept the name and history of the franchise with the city of Seattle. Now Seattle is going to hope for an expansion team or to lure another franchise over. That suit was a suit by the city of Seattle. There was a separate breach of contract suit filed by the team's former owner that is still pending unless something happened while I was out.

Man, I actually kind of like the Package the tribe got for him.
-
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 01:13 PM) I'd hardly say Halladay is on the downslope. His best pitch is the 2 seamer right? I'd certainly hope it's still sloping downwards if we're talking about trading for him. A sinker that doesn't sink isn't that useful.

So now does Arizona have to make a move to counter?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 01:46 PM) I cant even believe what im reading in this thread. You guys are aware this was Damaso Marte right? One of the most unclutch pitchers ive ever seen. He invented the David Riske syndrome. Xavier Nady is having a good season thus far, but isnt exactly a star player. This is a meh deal IMO. Although it's from the Yankees and that probably drives some of it, there's been a good deal of buzz around Tabata for a couple years now. I think I knew his name when he was like 17. He's not putting up great numbers, but he's not putting up great numbers as a talented 19 year old in AA. If we had a guy like him and traded him in a deal for Marte and Nady...we'd be pretty annoyed.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 07:16 PM) There's a happy medium. Name me one big government program that works like it should. Social Security. Anyway...this doesn't prove the government should be running everything. But if I were to campaign on the point that we'd gone well too far in stripping the government and trying to drown it in the streets of new orleans a bathtub as Grover Norquist suggested and as GW Bush has casually tried to do...here's an example of how we've swung way too far and it's costing us a lot. There's many others. This one's just pretty damn obvious and blatant.
-
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 07:08 PM) I've never disagreed with that - you can't have a PURE free market. On the other hand, it's plain distasteful (har har) to blame this whole thing on "Republicans" either. But you know what? I think that's a perfect example of the "Small government" philosophy and a perfect example of why it fails. Because assuming that limited government and free markets are always the perfect answer to everything gets you messes like this one.
-
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 07:02 PM) Fine. The market works. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. I don't think people getting sick is a good thing, but that's a risk of the process. And my point? The market works better, and cheaper, when it's properly regulated.

World writes open letter to McCain.

Somehow, I want Alexei to get a shot at him.
