6/20 Game Thread - CWS @ CHC, 1:20pm CT
Balta1701 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in 2008 Season in Review
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 20, 2008 -> 03:56 PM) I have no problem with him getting yanked. Its funny neither Hawk or anyone else has really picked up on this considering this is the exact same treatment Jerry Manuel gave Garland and was ripped so much for. Its was the right move. People would have been b****ing if Danks started struggling. There are 2 totally separate issues between the yanking of Garland and the Yanking of Danks here. When the Garland yanking was at its worst, in 2002 and 2003, Garland had already piled up a bunch of innings. 190+ in both of those years. The reason to keep Danks on a tight leash is not struggling, it's health. Ask guys like Zambrano, Prior, and Wood how throwing a lot of innings early in their career has done for them, ore even how it's done for their shoulders recently. The rule of thumb with a young pitcher is you can jump their total innings up by about 30 or so per year. That number puts Danks on a 160 inning limit for this year. When Garland in 03 was still getting Yanked by Manuel every time he got in any sort of trouble, he'd thrown 190 innings the year beforehand, so the yankings then had nothing to do with keeping his innings low, it had to do with a lack of faith in the guy. Taking Danks out early today would have been similar to the Garland move if Danks allowed 2 runners in the 5th and Ozzie didn't give him a shot to finish that inning. -
Here's one that SS2k5 should absolutely love. McCain's energy speech 2 days ago...saying that speculation and commodities trading is part of the reason oil prices are so high.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 20, 2008 -> 03:42 PM) No, he didn't abuse the system, he followed the rules like an idiot while Obama is blatantly not living up to the bargain. Yea, I think they expected to do this all along, they have absolutely no ethics. Well, in that case, I'll just leave it at that, because no amount of facts I can throw at you will convince you otherwise.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 20, 2008 -> 04:35 PM) Obama isn't taking public financing like he promised and the Dems have 527's launching attack ads at will surprise surprise McCain was a total dumbass for believing the Dems would actually go by the rules they set up. It's his own fault, he got totally duped by the party of snake oil salesman. Ok, so now that Moveon has disbanded their PAC, I'd actually be interested in what 527's they actually still have running solidly against McCain? Secondly, do you think McCain would stay in the public financing system if he could afford to hop out of it? He was totally willing to not only hop out of it but to go so far as to nearly openly abusing the system in the primary campaign. And third...the Republican Congress was the one that passed these rules. John McCain's name was on the most recent rendition of them, and he's maneuvered a few other bills through since then that have opened things up for him even more. Do you actually seriously believe that somehow the Dems duped McCain in to setting up the rules of the race, and that he's this innocent guy who is just at the mercy of these mean duplicitous democrats?

I think you guys will like this one.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 20, 2008 -> 02:49 PM) This was in the game thread, but supposedly Farmer and Stone were saying how suspicious the maturation process of G. Soto has been from medicore minor league hitter to premiere offensive hitting catcher. With Stone's connections to the Cubs, this is as close to a declaration of guilt as you'll get without a positive test. Yeah, I was listening in for that. Stoney went off on a nice little discussion of how Soto had never hit more than 5 home runs in his career over 6 years or so and suddenly already has 12 this year and has turned in to one of their most dangerous hitters.

QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Jun 20, 2008 -> 02:42 PM) guess he didn't read your letter.... Um, putting Thome in with a RISP in the 9th inning against a RHP and not a Loogy is the situation you want to use Thome in. Unfortunately, you can't make Thome not swing at the first pitch.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 20, 2008 -> 02:16 PM) WTF was he doing with Thome up there? Does that make sense? Get Wise up there or Ozuna. Bunt Anderson over. Then Orlando gets him in. What's with Sox relievers giving up homers that lose the ball game? That's 4 times now! RISP with a righy on the mound and 0 outs? Thome ought to have been up there for the RBI chance. That's not a bad move. -

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 20, 2008 -> 01:56 PM) Did Linebrink pitch yesterday? He's the type of pitcher who might be garbage after too much rest Yes, he got an inning yesterday in junk time. He ought to be ready. Ozzie set us up well by giving Jenks an inning on Weds and Liney an inning yesterday. -

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 20, 2008 -> 01:43 PM) The Cubs will win 4-3 or 5-3. Howry will sit us down 1-2-3 in the 8th, and then Marmol/Wood will do the same in the 9th. The Cubs will not touch this bullpen again. -

If Crede can't get him over I imagine they'll walk Alexei and try to go after BA.
