  1. Aj, keepin that hit streak goin, the streak man, streaky
  2. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 03:37 PM) Rehab assignments can last no longer than 20 days These starts would have to count towards rehab, a major league player can not participate in minor league ballgames while on the DL unless it's part of a rehab assignment. So the Sox will have to do something with Loaiza 19 days from now. That's what I wanted to know, thanks.
  3. Hmmmm, someone in the Senate has now repeatedly killed several attempts to bring forward versions of this legislation using a technique I believe known as the filibuster. I wonder who that might be and why they might be doing this. One of the reasons cited repeatedly for why things like wind power have been unable to get off the ground in the U.S. compared to Europe is that the government keeps extending and then canceling tax credits for it. So the fact that these tax credits are stuck in limbo and possibly going to expire is a real impediment to building any sort of alternative energy system.
  4. Rep Issa, R-CA. During discussion on a resolution recognizing the late Tim Russert.
  5. QUOTE (Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 03:39 PM) So, we've been doing some checking today...the details on that are...it seems to have been a pin that was being sold at a booth at the Texas Republican Party convention by an outside dealer. The Texas party says they didn't know about it until they started getting people asking them about it and wouldn't have allowed it otherwise.
  6. Danny went 2/4 with 2 doubles and 4 walks today between the 2 games. Hitting .281 over his last 9 games, with at least 1 hit in all but 1 of them.
  7. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 02:33 PM) I used to feel the same way, but now I look at it from a practical standpoint - if a politician based a campaign off complete and total honesty, and told the American public what they needed to hear instead of what they wanted to hear, and having broken ranks too far from their party to boot, there is no way they get elected. It sucks but that's reality. Sure you might have the occasional apparent exception to the rule like Ron Paul, which is refreshing, but... well, where's Paul now? And Ron Paul's campaign didn't try to spin away inconvenient facts like the statements from his newsletter and those sorts of details?
  8. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 02:11 PM) Damn, that's good. NSS is on top of it. I was ready to say the same thing a half hour beforehand but figured y'all wouldn't give it much credit if it came from one of the socialists.
  9. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 02:03 PM) Man its unreal that BA isn't in there.... No, it isn't.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 12:17 PM) Gasoline taxes are specifically for roads and the ilk. And this country has an awful lot of automobile infrastructure to maintain and improve.
  11. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 12:43 PM) Too bad we couldn't steal Carlos Beltran away from them... I dunno, while the .850 OPS in CF wouldn't look bad, the $18+ million a year price tag for that performance is really steep.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 10:08 AM) http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/o...0,7766785.story Now this is one I have to challenge on the facts. You can dispute the contentions of the Phase 2 report on the facts if you want (I personally feel it didn't go far enough looking in to the Office of Special Plans's work), but challenging it by pointing at the fact that those 2 reports found no problems with what the politicians were doing is simply outright deception on the part of the author if she's aware of it and foolishness on her part if she's not, because by rule both of the reports were simply prohibited from looking in to that question. Here's the executive order creating the Robb-Silberman commission...it is tasked quite specifically with only looking at the quality of the work of the intelligence community, not with looking in to any issues with regards to whether or not statements and actions of officials were based in fact. The closest they got was a fairly detailed discussion of how the political pressures of the situation may well have indirectly affected the work of the intelligence analysts. Similarly, the Senate Intelligence Committee's 2004 report did not look at any issues beyond complaints of direct political pressure in terms of the politics of the war. They punted on that until Phase 2, which it seemed clear they were hoping would never get completed. There has only been 1 single report which has in any way, shape, or form looked at the question of the public campaign to sell the war and whether or not it was based in facts. That was the Phase 2 report just released.
  13. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 09:17 AM) Skip Bayless suggested that Minaya hung on to Randolph to deflect blame from himself. I don't exactly hold his opinion in high esteem, but he may have a point. Considering how much having this hanging over their heads probably hurt the team, if he's actually right, then the GM's an idiot. If this just kept hanging, they'd be almost guaranteed to be losing since it's such an obnoxious distraction...and losing would put Minaya's job in jeopardy also even if someone else is taking part of the blame.
  14. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 09:00 AM) wise to be called up per score Anyone got a confirmation on this?
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 05:35 AM) That depends, do you think we deserve to have roads, bridges, and other infrastructure? No. Build more rail lines!
  16. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 07:34 AM) The way they handled this was classless. They flew him out to LA and fired him in the middle of the night after he'd won a game. There's no reason to handle it that way. I don't know which part had less class, the way he was fired or they way they kept him dangling for so long at the end of a string. This is an obnoxious finish, but the obnoxious way they handled the last couple months could easily have cost them their season.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 05:20 AM) And Ozzie led the Sox to getting swept in Detroit and losing 2 out of 3 to the Rockies. Don't blame the manager on 3 freaking games. How is it Manuel's fault that Thomas and Konerko didn't get a hit the entire series? I'll fire these 2 games back: Neal Cotts starting in New York with Mark Buehrle ready to go on normal rest because of an off day. Esteban Loaiza going in Minnesota to open the biggest series of the season with a bad illness.
  18. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 07:19 PM) What's Willy's contract situation? He is on a 1 year, $1.975 million contract this year, with 2 more years pre-arbitration remaining.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 05:57 PM) Is Fields hurt or sitting tonight for a possible call-up? They're saying another DL trip for him.
  20. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 05:15 PM) It doesn't matter, players always rehab with a minor league team while they're on the MLB DL. Yes this is true...but IIRC there are limits to the length of a rehab stint you can do without having to use up a minor league option (aka clearing waivers in ELo's case)
  21. So how would it work if ELo is in AAA already? Quickly to a rehab stint somehow? Aren't those limited in duration?
  22. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 03:31 PM) Why in the world would we want Willy Taveras? I don't even like Jerry Owens and I'd rather have Owens than Taveras. Looking at Owens splits is interesting...http://www.minorleaguesplits.com/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?pl=435539 He had a good April He had a very bad May And he's having a very good June Taveras' splits on the other hand suggest that he has been consistently bad. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7269/s...hHFamV_bGGFCLcF I wonder if there isn't something about the combination of Owens's wide open batting stance and swing plus the fact that he essentially lacks power that makes him more predisposed to extended slumps than you'd expect from a speed guy.
