QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 22, 2008 -> 12:19 PM) Its always been bizarre to me, how Durbin could be so cunning and smart with insider politics (and he is), and yet consistently be so dumb in his public political moves (which he also is). Weird. Also, another thought on this... The Chicago mass transit train systems (CTA and Metra) actually receive less money per mile of rail and less money per passenger from government (all levels) than any other system in the country. And yet, the gas taxes here are the highest. Where the hell is that money going? I'm sure some goes in to the general funds, but you know all those roads that people like to drive on? The money for those doesn't just appear out of thin air like it does to fund the Iraq war.

QUOTE (knightni @ May 22, 2008 -> 12:21 PM) If it goes above $7, the government better step in. And do what? Mandate price controls so that countries stop selling it to us or so that demand shoots right back up? Cut the $1 a gallon that you're paying in taxes on that $7 tank and let the roads you need to drive on fall apart? Go back in time and bury more algae so that the earth produces more oil?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 22, 2008 -> 09:36 AM) I wonder what an Obama/Clinton ticket would produce in these polls. More than likely the best result of all of them...because the VP polls at this point are, quite frankly, nothing other than a "Do you recognize this name" test.

QUOTE (jackie hayes @ May 22, 2008 -> 07:34 AM) Just something I've been thinking about, probably not realistic, just an interesting question. If they could change Mark Warner's mind, would it be worth having him on the ticket at the cost of losing the Senate seat? The way things look right now...The issue with losing a Senate seat might well be whether or not Lieberman is the difference between a majority and a filibuster-proof majority. In other words, yes, we can afford to lose a Senate seat in the next Senate.

QUOTE (jackie hayes @ May 22, 2008 -> 06:59 AM) I'm not disagreeing, but what you said doesn't really address the big thing everyone's worried about with Rose. The Hornets don't just have Paul, they have Paul and West. The Jazz don't just have Williams, they have Williams and Boozer. Why is the Paul/Williams side more important than the West/Boozer side? Again, I'm split on this. But I do think it's a legit question. FWIW, there have been more than a few people who have said that Luol Deng could well be a David West type player. Similar "TSP" type numbers, similar games, etc.

QUOTE (tommy @ May 21, 2008 -> 07:15 PM) Seems like Carlos Lee and GEOFF BLUM themselves beat the Cubbies today. Wouldn't be the first time for Carlos

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ May 21, 2008 -> 06:41 PM) I liked the signing at the time, but there is 3 and a half years left of the deal. Lots of time left.... Bring home a trophy this year and I'll more than tolerate the next 3 years of that deal even if he stinks. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2008 -> 07:13 PM) Sometimes, Logan just has nothing coming out of the pen. Hopefully he makes the most out of that gift strike. He's pitched an inning in the last 10 days. That might have something to do with it. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 21, 2008 -> 07:10 PM) I just wish we got more runs off base hits. If PK, JT, NS, and OC can at least regress towards their usual batting averages, I think that will happen. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2008 -> 06:57 PM) I actually think the Sox offense is better. I like the Indians staff a little more, just because C.C. is more of an ace than Buehrle. Gavin Floyd responds: "Don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry." He then morphs into a gigantic, #34 wearing pitcher and destroys the world. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 21, 2008 -> 05:31 PM) Bad plays by Swisher and maybe Konerko? I have been hearing analysts claim our defense has failed our pitchers more than once this year. No defense is perfect. When the offense isn't clicking, defensive miscues get magnified. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2008 -> 05:27 PM) I thought I heard he's among the league leaders in run support. Remember, he pitched that one Tigers game where we hit 2 slams. Javy's #2 on our team in run support next to one Nick Masset, as a starter that is. 6.29 runs/game. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 21, 2008 -> 05:23 PM) Do you think a trip to the DL is in order? The hand injury seems to be lingering I have no idea. But if he's hitting .220 while he's in there because of that hand, then at least some extra rest seems in order and he's not getting it. If this were 05 and our backup 1b was Timo I could understand keeping PK in there even if he's hurting, but come on, Swish can play 1b and we have a solid young backup OF who could use the playing time. -

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ May 21, 2008 -> 06:22 PM) What about with all the posts removed by that Bureau dude? I mean even if it's BS it's just his posts...so why remove it all? We're working on it right now...a little bit of patience and hopefully things will be resolved in an equitable manner. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2008 -> 06:20 PM) I think the energy improves as well. It really bothers me that PK is supposedly hurting a fair amount and he hasn't even gotten a measly extra off-day in nearly 3 weeks now. -

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ May 21, 2008 -> 05:15 PM) hard to see paulie ever coming out of this slump, this is incredible. I think he really needs a couple days off to let that hand heal.
