QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 06:50 PM) So Romney's basically done now? Yes. He's done. Add in a 9iu11ani endorsement of McCain and the associated momentum, regardless of McCain's lack of money and organization, Romney has nothing left, not even money, that is enough to close the big gap between him and McCain in the Super Tuesday states. He's done. Barring something incredibly stupid by McCain.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 06:38 PM) 50-32, she's +18 right now. Obama won SC by what, 30 points? FL is almost irrelevant. Now, one thing that one of the CNN talking heads said is very true - Obama has shown he has a lot of the stuff to be Prez, but he needs to show a bit more toughness. He needs to come out of the gate tomorrow and go right after Clinton for her tactics. Drill her at the debate. That is what Obama needs at this point. Right now, she's up by about 250,000 votes, and that margin is growing as more votes are counted. Obama received 295,000 votes in South Carolina. Her margin of victory here could well beat South Carolina.

QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 06:42 PM) Well if I'm thinking about this right, Obama didn't even receive that many less votes than Hillary in Florida, so if the votes are eventually transformed into delegates it won't be a major shift anyways. Um, he's currently down about 250,000 votes. By the time this is over, Hillary's margin of victory will probably be bigger than Obama's full vote total from South Carolina.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 06:31 PM) Ok so he goes to the Pirates. What do you expect in return for him? An OF such as Chris Duffy? Another prospect? FWIW, I think he'd make a lot of sense for the Padres. Would be an excellent defensive CF for them if he could actually prove he could hit decently enough. Would probably make for a good 4th OF / late defensive replacement in any case. The Pirates don't have a lot in terms of prospects of their own. Just going through the lower levels of Baseball America's top 10 list for them this year, and it's less than impressive. Their #7 for example is an OF in high A ball who strikes out a ton and seems like he's about a .250 hitter. Their #4 and #5 guys seem like they were just drafted last year.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 06:22 PM) Quick question: My wife last voted in 2004 and has since moved since we got married in 2005. My question i, when she changed her drivers license, does that change her voter registration location, or does she have to file a change of address? At least out here, you have to re-register to vote every time you move.

CNN Calls it for McCain. Balta looking forward to voting Colbert this fall.

Now that Santana is Traded To The Mets/ Go for Crisp

QUOTE(Soxfest @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 06:12 PM) 700 Outfielders already! Well, it works for the Angels, right? -
Time Magazine:: Rudy to drop out, endorse McCain.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 05:51 PM) If Clinton can't even get a South Carolina-like decisive win in FL, which it appears she won't, despite being the only one who made noises about Florida and having her name recognition... that's not good at all for her. Dude, she's up by 21. She has a 200,000 vote margin right now. She may well break 50%.
-
McCain's lead is now 45,000 votes and growing. Clinton's lead is up to 21 points. Congrats folks, your next president will be either Hillary Clinton or John McCain.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 05:05 PM) If I were the Twins, I would have rather had the Yankees offer from a while back. That all depends on how your scouts rate Phil Hughes.
-
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 05:04 PM) Clinton's lead is disappearing, and I think she wins by only 10 points over Obama in a state where he didn't even campaign. That's not really a big help for her She's up by 20?
-
BTW, there is an obvious potential for a bias in these results, as the Panhandle is a different time zone and is still voting as I type this. McCain's current lead is about 13,000 votes. If that doesn't go down rapidly, then it's Clinton/McCain.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 04:39 PM) This is where we disagree; I just don't think he can hit, and I know I'm not alone in that assessment. This is where great scouts and player analysts come in handy, though: if KW makes a move, it would be nice if he had guys who he knows will be real accurate or not accurate at all on Anderson's future. I don't know if he can hit, but I don't think so and he hasn't shown much. And, the problem is, right now he's #5 on the OF depth chart, so unless someone gets hurt, the odds are we won't get a chance this season at all to see whether he can do so against major league pitching (He's hit AAA pitching pretty well before). I don't want to lose him that much either, but with 2 young OF's, a young cheap backup in Owens, and JD signed, it would take someone getting hurt for him to be a sensible option even for a tryout.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 04:17 PM) Can someone post Dye's post ASB splits, I think they were pretty decent IIRC, after he re-signed and going thru all of the trade rumors. The big problem for JD, IIRC, was that he was basically on 1 leg for the first half last year.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 04:11 PM) Just on daa84's post, would you rather have given up Gio + DLS + Sweeney for Santana (and re-sign him at say 6 years, 130-140M) or those guys for Nick Swisher who's signed to a more affordable contract and could put up 35HR's and a +.375OBP? Quite honestly...and I like the Swisher deal...I'd have given that and more for the best pitcher in baseball regardless of the price. Minny has not had the greatest teams the last few years, but they're always in contention, because every 5th day they get a very good start and usually a win.

Yes, that's right, I'm going to link to Daily Kos in the Republican thread. Hahahahahahahhahaa. Seriously...this is actually an interesting analysis of McCain's financial situation. From a partisan point of view obviously, but the fundamental analysis, that McCain is really, really, financially screwed if he doesn't win Florida, is intriguing.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 03:56 PM) Why not just go with a Dye7 - Swisher8 - Quentin9 outfield? Why must there be a little b**** slap hitter in CF? And if there must be one...why can't we use the $400,000 one we already have that costs us 0 players to acquire (and who is a better base stealer?) -
QUOTE(Fantl916 @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 03:35 PM) if i remember correctly Uribe was one of the few that actually occasionally did something against santana... could be wrong tho... 53 AB's, 8 hits, 1 home run, 17 k's, 0 walks, .151 average, .434 OPS.

The rumored first round of exit polls:
-
Bush issues another signing statemetn, this time on the defense appropriations bill, saying that he will ignore clauses in the bill that require him to set up a commission to investigate Fraud in Iraq contracting and the clause that prevents the U.S. from building permanent bases in Iraq.
-
In other words, it may make sense to move Anderson this season, because if he doesn't make the team at the start of 2009, then he walks for nothing.
-
QUOTE(Pants Rowland @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 02:21 PM) Does anyone think the White Sox will still make a run at Coco Crisp now that the Red Sox appear out of the Santana sweepstakes? We have more OF's than we can play already.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 02:02 PM) I'm thinking Peavy. Unless he's part of a bigger deal, I don't understand why the Sox would dump Andeerson now if they can't get anything worthwhile back. He still has talent. He makes very little. If he's in the best shape of his life and admits to attitude problems why not give him another chance? Its possible he still may be the best CF option in the White Sox organization the next few years. How many minor league option years does Anderson have left?

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 02:02 PM) Flawed thinking then. He could of had Phillip Hughes earlier in the off-season (if indeed that was true). Instead, it looked like he settled for a need (another toolsy young OF, but they already got one of those for a great young pitcher in Delmon Young). And are Minny going to spend that $15M? Not likely. Unless they load up in the draft and on international signings, which will make me feel a little queasy (considering their record there). If the Yankee package was Philip Hughes + nobodies, I think I like this better. At least you get several shots at guys who can come in for you rather than one.
