Terrero k's looking. Leadoff triple, Iguchi scores tying the game on a groundout by Cintron. End of inning. Game tied 3-3.
-
Cintron and Hall both make quick outs while my audio dies. 0-2 on Terrero.
-
Iguchi takes the first pitch to right center field. Leadoff triple.

De La Rosa lines out to jumpin' Joe Crede. Inning over. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 02:13 PM) rooting against Erstad? At this point? Yes. It's spring training, so the games don't matter, and I want every single reason possible for Ozzie to decide he's not capable of being a starting CF for 150 games like Ozzie seems to think.

Roberts works a full count and walks. 2nd walk given up by Javy. Bases loaded for Randy Winn. QUOTE(vandy125 @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 02:12 PM) That will definitely help the pitching bounce back this year... Erstad and Cintron. That's all you need to know. Cintron screwed up the run-down and went to 3rd, Erstad stopped in CF when he's supposed to be the traffic cop out there. Randy Winn pops up to AJ. 2 outs. Bases still loaded.

Mackowiak as POSSIBLE trade piece - speculative

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 02:10 PM) Neither, he'll stick with Erstad and Podsednik because he's stubborn. Pablo got plenty of playing time last year, no matter how stubborn Ozzie was. -
Crede short popup RBI single to CF. Sox take a 2-1 lead as Erstad scores. Pierzynski flies out to the track. Inning over, 2-1 Sox going to the 4th. Klesko ground ball infield single past Cintron to lead off the 4th. Linden bunts for a base hit. 1st and 2nd, nobody out. Niekro flies out to Podsednik on the warning track. Klesko to 3rd. Close play, Podsednik covered some ground. Runner at first goes, Runner Linden gets hung up, but the play gets screwed up, Cintron goes to 3rd, and LInden walks to 2nd. Alfonzo singles to RF. 1 run in. 1st and 3rd, tie game. Frandsen hits a fly ball to right field. Erstad and Terrero have a miscommunication. Both players put the breaks on. The ball falls for a double. Run scores. 3-2 Giants. 2 botched defensive plays in the last 3 batters.
-
Erstad with another single. F***. Thome HBP in the butt.
-
Terrero k's on 3 pitches. Podsednik short groundout to Durham. Broken bat.

QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 01:50 PM) well, i didn't really listen to the radio last year because i heard it was so painful. I have to say singleton doesn't sound very awkward at all. This is pretty enjoyable sans farmeyo This is a 300% improvement over last year during ST. Durham pops out to Cintron. 1-2-3 inning.

De La Rosa flies out to Pods. QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 01:48 PM) sounds like the wind is swirling They suggest it's blowing strongly out. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 01:47 PM) I just noticed that Ray Durham is hitting cleanup. I believe he'll be doing that a lot this season.

QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 01:36 PM) why not get rid of pablo so mack is of more use to us, and he can take over infield spots more, where his subbing there would give us more power instead of a slap hitter like ozuna. Pablo is a righty. Mack is a lefty. Which one is Ozzie likely to use as a starter when Erstad and Podsednik average .630 OPS's between them for the first 4 months? -
QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 01:46 PM) Anderson is not a GG, but Pods is downright awful in LF and Erstad would be much better there. Anderson may not be a gold-glove winner like Derek Jeter, but he was one of, if not the best defensive OF in baseball last year. He gets a little more accuracy out of his throwing arm and learns how to jump next to a wall so that ESPN notices him...and he'll win 10 of those.

Had to leave the PC for a second, but it seems the inning ended. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 01:44 PM) wasn't Matt Cain the Giants big pitching prospect? Yes. He still is. He may well be their best pitcher this year, despite his spring performance. Put up a 4.15 ERA in about half the season last year at age 21. Winn K's to start the 3rd.
-
Come on, come on, listen to the money talk... QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 01:39 PM) did we score in the first? Yes. Game tied 1-1 in the 2nd. Singles by Pods and Erstad, stolen base somewhere in there, and sac fly Thome. Iguchi lines out to De La Rosa. I just realized Toby Hall was playing 1b.
-
Roberts k swinging. On to bot 2.
-
Alfonzo hits a ball to the wall. Podsednik confuses him, and Alfonzo breaks into a trot. Long single. Vazquez plunks Frandsen. Guillen out to speak wiht him.
-
Linden and Niekro both pop out to start off the 2nd.
-
QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 01:25 PM) can you tell me whose pitchin'? Cain V. Vazquez. Roberts, CF Winn, RF Aurilia, SS 1-De La Rosa, PR Durham, 2B Klesko, DH Linden, LF Niekro, 1B Alfonzo, C Frandsen, 3B 1-Ran for Aurilia in the 1st. Cain, RHP BATTING 2B: Roberts (2, Vazquez). TB: Roberts 2. GIDP: Aurilia. Podsednik, LF Erstad, CF Thome, DH Crede, 3B Pierzynski, C Iguchi, 2B Cintron, SS Hall, 1B Terrero, RF Vazquez, RHP From what I can tell, the scoring goes: Roberts, Leadoff double. Winn Walked. Aurilia GIDP, Aurilia then pinch run for (the other 2 guys out). Durham singled. Klesko RBI single. Durham thrown out at 3rd by Terrero. Podsednik singles. Steals a base. Erstad singles. Thome sac fly.
-
So, this game is already underway. The game is tied at 1-1, bottom 1 I believe. Podsednik just scored from 3rd on a sac fly by Thome. Erstad was on first.

Jayson Stark.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 11:36 AM) Because it'll be either him or Pods hitting #1, and Erstad, who won't waste 25 outs getting caught stealing, is the lesser of the 2 evils. He also has a little bit more pop in the bat, and will get on base at the same rate Pods would. Erstad's OBP the last 6 years .331 .313 .309 .346 .325 .279 Podsednik .371 .313 .351 .330 I'd say Podsednik's actual getting-on-base in his worst years is as good or better than Erstad in his best years. But yeah, there is the whole CS thing. And the "little more pop" you talk about...well, that's basically the difference between probably 2-3 home runs and 5-6 home runs over a full season. Similar amounts of doubles for both players also, Podsednik with a few more triples.
-
QUOTE(Craig Grebeck @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 11:30 AM) Why on earth would anyone want Erstad within five miles of the top of the order? Walks just clog up the basepaths.
-
QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 11:25 AM) The piching will be key. The lineup will do more than enough to win a world series. Would you agree that the better our defense is, the better the pitchers will be?

An interesting bit of 04 data from a Dem Pollster.
