NY Times calls for Attorney General's dismissal.
Balta1701 replied to Rex Kickass's topic in The Filibuster
You know how you can tell that the U.S. attorneys are really pissed about how this went down? They're leaking like a sieve. -
Slightly more upbeat sounding version from the NYT.

QUOTE(ScottyDo @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 09:06 AM) Because he's better than Jason Marquis, yet somehow cheaper. On a side note, I think it's funny that all the "concern" about our ballclub revolves around our lineup, which is frankly stupid because that was not our problem last year. If we need to be worried about something, why aren't there more posts on Buehrle/Contreras/Garland/Vazquez? (VAfan's post is excepted because I'm directly responding to a post about Vazquez ) Because one of the things that killed the White Sox pitching staff last year was the defense behind it constantly letting it down...even if things weren't called errors. And we seem to be trying to figure out how to make the exact same mistakes this year.

Falcons to trade QB Schaub to Texans
Balta1701 replied to DrunkBomber's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 03:41 AM) So I mean what happens if Vick lays another goose egg this season? Do you keep him? Trade him? Cut him? And what's the contigency plan, because you just traded a QB who could have fit beautifully for the Falcons. HOWEVER, the Falcons may decide to draft a QB in the 1st couple of rounds now and Petrino can mold him from scratch. And considering the huge needs they have on defense, getting extra draft picks is a good deal for them. I think that the Falcons probably would be best to just stick with Vick for at least a couple more years, keep trying to build around him, and see what happens. As others have pointed out...it's not like the team around him has given him a ton of help the last few years, especially on Defense. The one year Mora Jr. Put together a good defense, they worked their way to the NFC Title game. I still haven't seen them put together a good receiving corps for Vick beyond crumpler, and everyone who coaches Vick seems intent on fitting Vick into a system, making him a pocket passer or whatever, instead of trying to build a system around Vick's talents and the things he's good at, like rolling out of the pocket, running play action, trick plays, etc. I think the Falcons probably ought to just try to ride Vick's legs until his legs give out. -
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 09:12 AM) Except its missing a key variable - time. BAC drops approximately .01 per hour.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 08:39 AM) He'll still be better than last year, hes in the NL. That'll all depend on his control and that new split finger pitch he was throwing. A pitcher who changes speed with good control and 88-89 can still succeed if he has the kind of movement Freddy had on that split.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 08:49 AM) How much of a difference is a .08 to a .093? Roughly how many more drinks is it? Assuming Tony is a 200 pound man, it's roughly 1 to 2 drinks depending on the bartender. But it's also several drinks beyond when your reflexes start being impared. Quick BAC chart found at the top of a google search.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 08:42 AM) Guess whose district got better known last night? Oh, that's right mine. And 10 points for mentioning speidies, the most deliciously simple "sandwich" on the planet. Congrats on having your representative guaranteed a win in the next election! (My Rep. was like the 15th or 20th guy they did. Stephen kept trying to bribe him)

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 06:15 AM) So nothing illegal happened to trigger an investigation, and they want to impeach/prosecute for what happened during the investigation... LMAO. If you can't beat em, join em! Well, the Attorney General seems to have lied to Congress, that is fairly illegal. -
QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 06:23 AM) If we are only talking about calculus, that brings in another variable. Is calculus required in the US and not other countries? I wonder if there is a study that ranks our students in mutliple disciplines against the world. If we're talking about the calculus, for my high school, the calculus was certainly not required, and was not even an option for anyone but the top level students. It was taught as an honors course senior year, which basically meant you had to have taken the advanced math courses all the way from 8th grade on. The calculus was certainly a requirement in college for me, but I'll be the first to tell you that there were people at Indiana that had no business in that school taking any major that required math. The best example of this is a class that's number is something like math 001 or something to that effect (someone who's still a student there could give the exact description) which is basically intro to algebra, something I had in middle school. So, long story short, the calculus is certainly not required in all U.S. high schools, or even for admission to colleges.

Nuke...if there's anything that your unit could use, like something random that you'd like to be able to hand out to the locals or some random supply/niceity that you guys don't get, let us know.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 07:05 AM) John Edwards and his wife are scheduled to hold a press conference today, following Mrs. Edwards' discussions with her doctor about her breats cancer. This may or may not effect his bid for the Presidency. In any case, I certainly hope for the best for Elizabeth Edwards' health. According to the not 100% reliable Washington newspaper The Politico (link probably dead from Drudge swamping) Edwards will suspend his campaign.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 03:29 PM) Going to the Mountain West is a huge step backwards. Stay at Iowa until you get fired; they're going to have to pay your entire contract either way. It's not like he won't be able to get a job at a school like New Mexico at a different time. In other words, there's a lot more going on behind the scenes than we know about. Aka, Alford wants out of there. At least he's not going to Indiana.

Chris Matthews demands Tom Delay read Tom Delay's book to prove which word Mr. Delay wrote. Mr. Delay denies he wrote a word, and refuses to read that phrase because he doesn't have his glasses. Priceless.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 04:39 PM) it's also not just the really poor schools in the US that do poorly compared to the rest of the world, it's almost all the schools in the US..... funding doesn't seem to be the problem seeing that we spend as much, if not more, than most countries on education. Sounds like the health care refrain. I'll make you a deal...we can privatize the education system if you give me a public health care system. How's that for a trade? If you'd like my side can throw in Brian Anderson as well, it doesn't look like he'll be doing anything.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 04:48 PM) 11 hits in 5 innings of work for Vazquez? but..but..but...I thought the ass-whooping from Arizona's B squad was supposed to set him on track? Ok, to be totally fair, a handful of those, especially in the 4th inning, were the fault of Erstad and Cintron making non-error defensive mistakes that should have ended the inning a lot sooner. Don't get me wrong, it's not like he was very good, but he wasn't as bad as his line.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 05:01 PM) I didn't know that. I just got home when I made that post and was just looking at the box score. Let's just say that if you were a fan of pitching and defense....this was not a game you'd like to attend.

NY Times calls for Attorney General's dismissal.
Balta1701 replied to Rex Kickass's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 03:58 PM) Sort of bizarre, how this works. BushCo has done some many things that have made it a failed, terrible administration... so many things worth being really angry about... and yet here this impeachment might occur over something much less relevant than so many dozens of other things they've done. I'm sorry, but I just don't see how any single thing they've done could qualify for impeachment here, under the high crimes and misdemeanors standard. Even if we assume the very worst...give you an example...we assume that it's not a coincidence that the White House arranged for the guy who bribed Duke Cunningham to be sent $140,000 to "Buy furniture for Cheney's office" about a week before he bought a $140,000 yacht for Duke Cunningham and then the White House fired Carol Lam in order to keep her from investigating that...I just can't see that hitting the top level. Maybe Rove, but I just can't see anythign that would hit the Pres. I just can't imagine how President Bush could be directly involved in any of the things they might have been trying to cover up by firing these guys, there just wasn't anything big enough. If Fitz was fired, ok, but he wasn't. And even if these guys were fired to totally stop investigations into Republicans...no matter how inappropriate that might be, there's no law saying they can't do it. Yet. There damn well better be one soon. -
Hall GW single. Sox win 10-9. QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 04:09 PM) whose the wikipedia nickname? Wiki Gonzalez.
-
Cintron grounds to the SS, SS botches a potential DP, drops it, everyone safe, bases loaded, 1 out. E- De la Rosa. Hall up. This inning pays us back for the disasterous fielding in the 4th by Cintron and Erstad.
-
Bunt lineout to 3rd. Not really sure who did it. Iguchi's spot. Cintron up.
-
Thome walks, Javier Castillo (?) in to run for Thome. Crede singles into the corner. First and 3rd for Wikipedia. Wiki flies to right, Right Fielder Ellison misplays the ball, the ball drops, Tying run scores.
-
I note that you don't mention the botched play in the OF by Erstad that helped the Giants to their first big inning, or the couple things hit over his head.

Anyone know what Dave Foley might be filming with Warner Brothers? Just ran into him upstairs.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 03:47 PM) I think Aardsma is going to make the team, and I am a big fan of his. I think he can be a real good MRP. I agree with Sisco gettint sent down through. Logan should make the team as the second lefty. If Logan doesn't make this team then we zombies ought to revolt, with the way he's pitched. It could change if he's done something in B games or does something in the next week, but right now I just don't see Aardsma making it. He's just struggled too much in the innings he's had. I think Haeger might make it, or we might do something crazy like putting Russell in there. Sisco stays in for the 9th. If anyone else wants to do PBP I've got to step out.
