Jon Jay woulda been unsigned and probably looking at a minor league contract with an invite to ST somewhere, so don't feel bad for him. I'll dress up like Rick Hahn and let the 5000 people left in the stands boo me and throw stuff at me for $4 million.

I don't think so, I think it goes to the general MLB fund and then gets spread around. But, there will be a surge of cancellations nationwide from Sox fans today. There will be more in Chicago than anywhere else, but it'll be nationwide. They will be able to see the numbers - that several thousand people were going to pay them money and as soon as this news came across those people canceled. Their marketing department will get these statistics. Next week they'll have numbers on cancellations of their streaming packages and canceled season tickets sitting on their desks, congratulating them for being clowns. Do it right now.
-
Dude f***ing cancel it right now. Absolutely. Go do it now. Don't wait, do it right now. There will be a surge of cancellations in the Chicago Area today that will actually show up in their statistics. Join in that. They will actually be able to see themselves losing money today.

He's probably being circuitous and referring to incentives like marketing deals in the city outside of his actual salary, maybe even counting the tax differences. Note how he words it, "make more here than that", he doesn't say "we could have increased our offer" or "we could have matched that offer". Instead, in his other quotes he specifically says they would not go to $300 million. They're not professionals at running a baseball team, but BS legalese - they're experts.
-
Well above market price, well above.
-
Jay probably has an extra several million in his bank account for being willing to go along with that charade. He'd probably be unsigned right now otherwise. Don't feel too bad for him. Who knows where Cleveland woulda traded Alonso.
-
Whatever the story was, we've seen the end results. They're surprised, thought they had a sneaky way to talk him into a discount, and they're repeating how $300 million was a price they just couldn't go to. So even if Lozano didn't call them, it didn't matter. They're just not a professionally run business or organization, and that's the entire story.
-
New CBA by then, so who knows.
-
Didn't Kenny just say that they couldn't have matched $300m? So what does it matter if the White Sox put their offer on the table and it wasn't close to good enough? If those clowns had sat on a $250 million offer all offseason saying they wouldn't go higher, and you got a $300 million offer, why waste your time with those clowns who said they won't go to that number even to get a deal done? Deal with the professional who put a fair offer on the table, not the clowns who thought they had a sneaky way to make the player take a $50 million discount.
-
Then put a $325/10 year deal on the table with an opt out after year 5 and act like professionals. That's in no way a terrible deal for this player with his previous performance. Do you really think he wanted to go to the Padres? They're like 29th out of 30 teams in wins over the last 6 seasons.
-
Honestly, I'm not shocked in the least. I kept trying to believe, I'm a little surprised it was the Padres, but no, the White Sox are who we thought they were.
-
I kept trying to avoid running my mouth about how inept they were because I thought there was a chance that they could actually do their jobs. But alas, every single thing I said about their incompetence is proven right. Once again. Worst front office in baseball, worst White Sox general manager of my lifetime. And yes, that includes Hawk Harrelson. I don't even think it's up for debate any more.
-
Hey I know where you could come up with an extra $13 million.
-
You're 100% right. They're clowns. They thought that if they brought in those guys and were nice, it wouldn't matter that they didn't put a fair offer on the table. They have fully demonstrated to every single one of us who they are this offseason.
-
I can't be mad at the Padres for being a better organization than the White Sox.
-
No, he was saying have faith we would get Machado. They all were. Literally every "insider" said not to panic, these guys are professionals, Machado is their target, and they will get the job done. So, either these guys aren't insiders, the front office isn't professional, or both.
-
Then what was the point of adding Alonso (lefty DH/1b) and Jon Jay (corner OF who will probably be stuck in CF anyway)? Yeah, adding Harper would be an acceptable substitute but those moves are still confusing, and there's basically no reason to have confidence in these clowns getting that done after today. Because they're clowns.
-
Because they're clowns, not professionals. They thought they could bring in his friends and have it be a party and the fact that they wouldn't put a fair offer on the table wouldn't matter.
-
So let's see - moving Moncada to 3b and saying he would start there was in fact a total giveaway yesterday. How many "Insiders" had nothing? RaBBiT, Richardson, Gomez, Bucket - all said they wouldn't let him get away. And we helped out Cleveland and Jon Jay, because it's better to have a guy's friends around than to actually pay what he's worth.
-
We now return to the Rick Hahn clown themed entertainment hour.
-
Yolmer's at least a decent enough player to be a guy that could be traded to fill a role on a good team. I think he's somewhat comparable to Eduardo Escobar at this point in his career.

Austin already has a vibrant internet/startup type market as well, so the benefit for the city of trying to draw Amazon there is also muted. Those Amazon employees wouldn't have helped build or feed a new surrounding industry - just as with NYC. If they wanted to go there, they should pay a premium for access to the talent and facilities that are already established. If Amazon wanted the big tax incentive they shoulda gone to Rochester in NY or some place like that, a place that could really use the boost to build an industry.
-
He's also had some injury problems the last couple years and has 2 more seasons remaining until FA, unless he was really wanting to go to Philly that's a solid deal for both sides.
-
Lousy lack of cross country high speed rail...
-
He's the perfect guy to play 2b for a couple months while you race Madrigal up. Good defensively, good enough with the bat, starting to get expensive - might be a trade or non-tender candidate at the end of the year, replacement in the backup role already on the team (Rondon).
