He also said the same thing a week ago and then wednesday passed with nothing.

The other option could be taht the white sox have decided they're out and they're going to go finish signings elsewhere.
-
The Cubs and Astros absolutely did not hit on 90% of their moves. The Astros are my constant example of how rebuilding works even when you make a ton of mistakes in the draft. Aiken, Mark Appel over Bryant, they had 3 straight #1 picks and have 1 player out of them.

Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow Creeps in this petty place from day today And all our yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty death Out, out brief candle Life's but a walking shadow A poor player that struts and frets its hour upon the stage and is heard no more It is a tale told by an idiot Full of sound and Fury Signifying nothing

Alas poor Yolmer, I knew him well.

Technically that number is something like $8 million low as of now since there will also be a bunch of pre-arb guys who make near the league minimum. The only difference between his # and B-R's numbers then is James Shields's $2m buyout that B-R counts.
-
It will have to go through league approval but that's always been just a formality IIRC.
-
Yes? Why wouldn't it be?
-
They've gone from $120 million in 2015 to $135 million in 2017 to $160 million last year, I'm not so sure they're ready to jump to nearly $200 million. Their payroll was in the same range as ours until that jump in 2017.

1. What is this 2. What is this please 3. Where's my... where's you're body We're having a nice talk. I'm a peacekeeping program, created to help the Avengers...no...yes...too much... 4. Why do you call him sir?
-
Yeah it was enough to get the broadcasters to start talking about it mid-game. Spectacular move.
-
Anyone other than me remember when ARoid announced he was opting out of his contract right in the middle of the 07 world series final game with the Red Sox?
-
If it was that close, then you ask Manny Machado's agent what it would take to be done with this and have him in a white sox uniform today, and if he confirms they'd sign for that number you welcome him to the White Sox.
-
Vaughn makes sense and has a reasonable chance but let's also not make official guesses until we see how the season plays out.
-
He really likes Wednesdays doesn't he?
-
They might feel more pressure to make a move but that's not a sudden urge to spend $300 million and to lock themselves into the luxury tax for the next several years.
-
If you're in the market for pitching and you have a bunch of young hitters, next offseason is the time when you want a slot open, and right now they'll have 2 open and money to burn. Sale, Bumgarner, Verlander all on the market. If you've acquired a ton of young pitching (perhaps in trades) and need a position player...you gotta strike now, and that's the Phillies and White Sox.
-
If the Yankees are behind the Red Sox next year my guess is their #1 target is one Christopher Sale.
-
Then your 24 hour deadline is not a deadline.
-
Fine, if you said "Here's our offer at $280 it's available for 24 hours", and you refused to make it again, and he wound up accepting 7/$250 from the Phillies in 2 weeks, wouldn't you feel really dumb?
-
If you put $350 million for Machado on the table with a deadline, and next week he signed for $325 with the Phillies and you got nothing, wouldn't you feel pretty f***ing stupid for your negotiating tactic?
-
If the White Sox are willing to make that offer today, then even if the White Sox say they are walking away, if Manny Machado's side comes back next week and says they'll accept that offer they have every reason to believe the White Sox would say yes. The threat to walk away simply isn't credible from the position the White Sox are in. They're not going to turn down Machado under almost any circumstance. The only true deadline for this franchise is the start of spring training, and agents know that.

You're missing substantial fractions of the rule. The Nats paid the tax last year, so at minimum they would be paying 30%. They're right up against the tax right now, so if the Nats signed harper to 10/$326, they'd be about $30 million over, and their total cost for Harper next year would be over $40 million counting the payroll and a $10 million tax fee, and that's assuming they add no one else. They would also be within striking distance of being $40 million over, and if they signed harper to a $400 million deal that might well push them into the higher tier, making a 1 year cost go above $50 million. And for good measure

I wouldn't call anything firm based on how players work together under the coaching, roster construction, and systems the Bulls have run this year. -
He coulda just run for president...
