If the Yankees decide they have a low limit for him - they have an infield already assembled, they have a playoff team from last year, they've added pitching to it already, they have a natural candidate or two for shortstop (they could still cheaply add a 2b and move Torres over), I read that as "a reasonable business decision".
-
I disagree. We literally watched that exact scenario play out this offseason already with the best pitcher on the Market, Corbin, and the Yankees said thanks but no thanks. Hell, out of that the team that came out looking the worst in my eyes was the team that talked the biggest game and then wilted - the Phillies, who publicly they would not be out-bid for him and then were outbid. They looked like clowns.
-
I don't think they would. I think that people would just no longer care. I think that would be the thing that makes a lot of people check out and I'm not sure what it would take to get them to come back. They'd still sell some tickets, I still go to a couple of local baseball games a couple times a year, but I don't go because I hugely care about rooting and that's where the White Sox would fall to with me and a lot of people.
-
I don't go to Soxfest because I'm across the country, but hypothetically - if I had tickets, and the Sox missed out on both, I'd probably sell them. If I couldn't sell them, I'm not sure I'd go at all. Only reason I'd go is to boo. Like obnoxiously. And I'm not sure I'd care enough to do that, I might very well just eat the cost.
-
We might still get there in 2021 or 2022 if a good number of things go right, there's still a ton of talent in this organization, but we'd need developmental disasters like 2018 to never happen again.
-
There's 2 possibilities I see - either the White Sox really are this stupid, or Machado's side has not come back to a team with a reasonable counteroffer that he'd sign, as at least the basis for negotiation. If Machado's side had come back to me and counteroffered with 9/280, as long as there wasn't a year 3 optout required, I'd be working out the yearly details and getting it done before he changed his mind. Maybe that's more than the White Sox would go, but the White Sox could counteroffer at 260 or something like that and get this finished. On paper, that would be one of the best contracts this team had signed in years.
-
My reaction to missing both of them would be extreme, fandom crushing disappointment. It wouldn't be enough to get those guys fired because nothing will ever get them fired, but I'd probably close this window and not be interested in talking about the White Sox again for a while.
-
IMO - looking at a 26.5 year old player and refusing to sign him to a 10 year deal because guys several guys who signed to 10 year deals at age 31-32 blew up after a few years...is somewhat questionable thinking.
-
If Manny Machado gets less total than Robinson Cano did several years ago when he was what, 5 years older, and the White Sox let him go anywhere else, god I don't know what I'd do.

Just double checked and can confirm this.

Sox could chase Moustakas If MM goes elsewhere

Thank god the Chargers had Hunter Henry this season or they might not have made the playoffs. -
Madrigal: BA Prospect who could move fast
Balta1701 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The whole thread starts with BA saying he's a prospect that could move fast. If he shows up this year and he's hitting with legit authority compared to last year, I would want to keep challenging him too. He's got enough college ball experience that if his numbers are where they should be and he stays healthy, there's not much to gain by waiting too long at each level. Wait long enough that he proves he's better than that level, then go ahead and move him. -
I red that as throwing gasoline on a fire. You can say "I didn't know the fire would explode", but yeah you did, you knew exactly what the fire would do.

Both could be reasonable. If you were trying to negotiate a lower price on a car you might do the exact same thing - say that you had a better offer on another car, say an exact price in some cases, to see how a dealer responds. In the end, the salesperson's job is to find a price you'll agree to. If you were asked that by MM, your appropriate response is "If we were willing to do this, would you be willing to agree today", and until you get them to say that there's a deal they will sign you don't make another official offer. The car salesperson should say "If I can get my manager to do that, can we put you in this car today".

Sox Sign Jon Jay; 1 year/$4 mil, Charlie Tilson DFA'd
Balta1701 replied to soxfan49's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Based on the standard definition of league average, no he wasn't, not last year at least. He was slightly better than replacement, basically what you should be able to pick up off the scrap heap mid season, or in other words - Adam Engel. -

Center Field, 2004-2005 when we felt like we had Anderson ready, Sweeney a year away, and Chris Young was expendable and tradeable. -
Sox could chase Moustakas If MM goes elsewhere
Balta1701 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That's not really fair, he's not a bad player, if your team has a gaping hole at 3b he's a solid player and he can probably DH and play 1b sometimes and be a pretty good 5th or 6th hitter. Out of last year's playoff teams he'd dramatically outperform what Boston got at 3b for example, due to injury in no small part. If someone like the Angels wanted to keep trying to win next year, he'd be a huge upgrade at that position. The problem is - he's not all that much better than Yolmer. Going from Engel and Yolmer to Jay and Moustakas might well have been enough for us to get to 63 wins last year. -
But if someone blew on it that rumor could flame up like the sword of the cherub blocking the entrance to the garden of eden #MixedMannyMachadoMetaphors

One of these bands does not fit.

They already have a power hitting 3b and a hole at SS for this year. -
