  1. White Sox general manager Kenny Williams is fond of "flying under the radar" when it comes to laying the groundwork for trades, and he might be doing just that. Despite all the talk about the Sox trying to get a deal done with Cincinnati for outfielder Ken Griffey Jr., it could just be the ultimate smoke screen for something else in the works. Seattle closer Eddie Guardado reportedly has cleared waivers, and according to a source in the Mariners organization, is being mentioned in a potential trade with the Sox. The lingering back problems of Sox closer Dustin Hermanson have been well-documented, but the situation could be worsening, and not just because Hermanson blew a save opportunity Tuesday night for just the second time this season. The right-handed reliever's back problems are such that it's leaving the Sox unclear as to his availability on a daily basis. He was iffy for Wednesday night's series finale against Minnesota, meaning the Sox would have given consideration to either Damaso Marte or Cliff Politte as the closer. The Sox would like to see rookie Bobby Jenks in that role, but he was unavailable after pitching three innings in Tuesday night's 16-inning marathon. Jenks hasn't heard from manager Ozzie Guillen about possibly being used as a closer, but the second-year skipper has talked about it publicly. "We know what's going on down there with Hermanson," Jenks said. "He's taking care of his back and everything that's going on with him. "He's giving this team a lot, just showing he's going to throw through it. He's becoming a smarter pitcher just by doing it, having to learn how to get guys out without his best stuff. Once he comes back from this and is completely healthy, watch out." While the addition of Guardado wouldn't necessarily cost Hermanson his closer's job, the Seattle reliever, who has 29 saves this season, would at a minimum serve as a good insurance policy.
  2. Looking for a good pic of our 4 all stars together at the all-star game.
  3. MLB.com puts up nice pics every day but they're all in a Flash format. Anyone know if there's a way to cut them out anyway?
  4. From what I've seen, lets all take a moment a thank god they're not going to the post season. We just can't win out there.
  5. QUOTE(Rooftop Shots @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 07:22 PM) Are you looking for Topps brand cards, or "Any" brand name cards with these guys on them. I am a Sox Topps collector, and have quite a few commons in Topps, but in other brands as well. As of now, I'm working a ton of hours , but I'll try and look up what you need ASAP. Don't care about brand name at all. In fact the more different kinds of cards that are represented the better. PM when you're ready, and thanks!
  6. By the way. If you guys want any of your old cards signed, check out this site. Its got the home addresses of players listed! I've already gotten back my Jim Kern and Mike Squires cards! It works. Gonna send out a bunch more this week. http://www.baseball-resources.com/addresses/main.htm Ok, so I'm a dork. A devoted dork.
  7. Wow! Thanks to everyone for all the help! That's great! I'll start looking on the web. I'm more than willing to trade any that I may have! Anyone wanting any, just let me know. I tried the eBay thing. I ordered "lots" but these were a few guys that weren't in there. I would try searching Ebay for the individuals, but believe it or not there's not a lot of people out there collecting John Cangelosi. Wonder why?
  8. I've started trying to collect one card of each white sox player/mgr(if they've had a card made while with the sox) since I became white sox-conscious in 1978. I live in Texas now so its hard to find some of the old, spare players. If anyone has some or most of these guys, I'd like to buy them off you. I don't care about condition or year or anything like that, the less expensive the better. All I ask is that they've got "white sox" somewhere on the card. Shawn Abner Terry Bevington Rodney Bolton Pat Borders John Cangelosi Carlos Castillo Tony Catillo Will Cordero Cal Eldred Oscar Gamble Atlee Hammaker Darren Jackson Charles Johnson Mike Lavallier Jerry Manuel J. McKeon Jim Morrison Kelly Paris Tony Phillips Scott Sanderson Dave Stieb Kevin Tapani Danny Tartabull Don Wakamatsu Steve Wapnik Craig Wilson Mike Woodard PM me if you can help. Thank again.
  9. Who's thinking with Cotts' new successful aggressive approach to hitters, we should give him another shot at starter and move Hernandez into the pen and get rid Vizcaino?
  10. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 08:49 PM) 42 games, shilling had 39. Blackjack had 48 I think in 92-93
  11. Well, if nobody wants to help me, I guess D'Angelo Jimenez can go to bed happy tonight seeing my 25 votes.
  12. Let's be smart so the Sox get home field if(when) we make it to the Series. Vote for the best AL lineup, and the worst NL lineup. Don't forget we're playing Detroit this year, so think good defense in that huge outfield. When your 25 votes are gone, create a login for your sister, your mom, etc. Somebody needs to get on other competeive AL team fansites and spread the word. Boston, Baltimore, Texas, etc. In fact tell all of Japan so Ichiro or Gooch get homefield! (why aren't they voiting for Gooch anyway?)
  13. I keep hearing KC is taking offers for Sweeney. Think they'd trade within the division?
  14. Points from Farmer's interview of Broadway(for any of you who aren't forced to listen to the broadcast on the radio). Broadway said he's "pitching with conviction and meaning". He got hit by a car as a junior in high school, settled for a nice chunk of change and blew it quickly, learned his lesson. Clemens was his favorite player in the bigs, now its Buerhle or Garland.
  15. Lance Broadway's gonna be on the radio broadcast soon!
  16. and lets all hope Timo's a funny memory appearing on this list soon! and of course....Jamie Navarro
  17. Somebody check our 2003 or 2004 schedule. I'm not sure, but for some reason I remember us getting done with New York very early in the season and before they started rolling. If it were some kind of a conspiracy, with all of the pop culture love for Boston, why wouldn't they lay the schedule out for a Boston repeat?
  18. QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 04:04 PM) Their is no players close to making the starting lineup for the all-star game lets get at least one player into the starting lineup I think that's good. Whenever guys get accolades they always seem to holdthat against the team in contract disputes. Besides, I like that nobody on the team appears to have an over-inflated ego this year.
