    color=green]Yeah, because a guy who was drafted by the Cubs in the 5th round, then traded to the Mariners, then given back, and then traded again and is a 25 year old who just got demoted back to AAA for Wil Cordero is truly a prospect.[/color] What a hell of a prospect there.

    In his short time in the majors, he hasnt seemed to be all that bad.

    And going to the minors to bring up Cordero seems to support the "name player" theory that supernuke presented.

  2. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 03:34 PM)
    2005 stats? They are outside Coors you know?  :rolly

    And Cell is Coors lite you know?

    the stats this year look like this

    April .347 BA .613 SLG .388 OBP

    MAy .245 BA .327 SLG .339 OBP

    So how about we go off of his last month? I mean, if the Sox should take him because he had such a good April, then why should they ignore his massive falloff in May?

  3. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 03:28 PM)
    Again, franchise as in a face for the franchise. I would know, a family member works as an accountant for the franchise. The fans identify with Vinny the most out of any player not named Brad Wilkerson. I also said one of their franchise players, not THEE franchise player(looks like more and more posters can't read for understanding on this board). But again, I must be wrong, Jabroni said so.

    Franchise players on expansion teams dont mean anything really. Look at the supposed franchise players that the D-Rays and Diamondbacks stood behind: Wade Boggs and Travis Lee. Boggs was trying to get his 3000th hit and the D-Rays were trying to make headlines. Travis lee is a multiteam journeyman who hasnt really done anything in the majors.

    A franchise player defines the team. Vinny Castilla does NOT define the Nats.

  4. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 03:16 PM)
    And despite that he blows away Chavez and Cruddy's #s (see AVG and OBP). And that is all despite playing on a team with very little O around him.

    Seriously, have you followed any of Castillas career? he hits at Coors, thats about it. Somehow, even though having a superior BA, Castilla only has 6 more hits than Chavez, 2 more RBIs, same amount of HR, and two more runs scored. And dont even mention the 3 stolen bases that vinny has, Chavez is on a team that does not steal bases whatsoever. I think Pods has more stolen bases now than the entire A's team had last year.

    Im still trying to figure out how Chavez has 29 more at bats than Castilla, yet he has only played 2 more games.

  5. You know, Contreras has gone against some pretty stiff competition this whole year, and I havent seen him flinch once. I still dont blame him for that pitch to McPherson, Sometimes the hitter beats you plain and simple.

    I expect tonite to be a low scoring affair for sure. I am really happy with the work that Contreras has been giving the Sox this year, and I really dont expect it to change tonite.

  6. I remember Byrd having his way with the Sox when he was with the Royals. Hopefully his tommy john surgery will have changed that.

    Hopefully K-Rod wont be an option, but the good news is that the Sox have had success this year against every one of the Angels stud relievers, except that Peralta kid. If they put him in as the closer tonite, the Sox could be in trouble.

  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 01:51 PM)
    I sure didn't think it was a bad thing...might lose something in the power numbers, but should gain a fair amount in average/OBP, and improve our defense at 1st as well.

    Im just asking because you were saying it was the other side of the coin. I thought you were saying "and this is the bad part of the deal...."

    just a misinterpretation :D ;)

  8. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 01:36 PM)
    His season high for BA is .288, yet he will make 10+ million a year for the next 3 years...

    Well, Pauly is currently making 8 million a year and his career BA is .278. I dont see how this is so bad, theoretically you are trading one powerful bat for another(if Konerko is allowed to walk), PLUS you have a very good defensive third basemen in the deal.

    My only question in the deal is who goes to the A's. Beane is historically good at getting something for nothing.

  9. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 12:44 PM)
    I don't really like his attitude.  He's been on the A's his whole career and they've always contended.  Now, they hit their first rough season and he sounds like he's already got one foot out the door. :nono , Mr. Chavez.

    Think about all of the teamates that have been interchanged around him since he started with the team, though. Im sure in the back of his mind he feels somewhat jilted that the A's havent gone deeper into the playoffs, or even won the whole thing at some point. But every year Beane cinches it up and is forced to deal one piece or another for the future. Maybe Chavez is at a point in his career where he wants a little more stability on the field around him, and he doesnt see that happening with the A's anymore.

    I dont even see them as having a rough season, either. they always seem to start slow and have a huge second half, only to putter out in the playoffs.

  10. QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 10:02 AM)
    From today's Tribune:

    "I think from everyone's standpoint, everyone gets along well" said Buehrle. "Pitchers like the hitting coach and the hitters like Coop. I won't mention any names, but during my first years here there was a hitting coach who couldn't stand pitchers and he was going off on us. We didn't really like him, either."

    Checking past media guides, the likely suspects are either Von Joshua or Gary Ward.

    This also says something about the control the manager had over his staff, I think.

    That speaks volumes about Manuel's "control" of the White Sox in his tenure. What a crock. Why would a hitting coach yell at a pitcher for any reason outside of personal reasons?

  11. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 07:07 AM)
    DJ once told this story about Joe Carter having so many RBI's with such a low average and threw out some strange numbers.  I looked it up later that evening, and he had exagerrated by about 15%.

    I remember that. I think he said that Joe Carter batted .215, had over 30 homeruns, and drove in 120. I thought to check it myself, but then realized that it wasnt worth my time to check into everything that DJ says. That could be a full time job.

  12. keep on winnin.

    There is no better way to draw fans than to put a great product on the field.

    That is unless you trick everyone into believing that if you hang out and get wasted at a park 80 times a year, regardless of the product on the field, that it is a good time. :drink :drink :drink :drink

  13. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 31, 2005 -> 05:48 PM)
    Fine, I can accept your opinion.

    By the way, 20-2 now.

    just out of random curiosity, are you the youngest child Jabroni? That last little "20-2" stinger is right out of my brothers book. :D

  14. QUOTE(I-HATE-CREDE @ May 31, 2005 -> 05:46 PM)
    Do you want to split hairs?

    Nah, not right now. I think watching Nitetrain and Jabroni split hairs for over 15 pages has filled my quota for the day.

  15. there used to be this statement that applied to the argument you two are having.

    "We agree to disagree"

    move along folks, nuthin to see here. Just two people arguing over semantics......
