  1. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ May 25, 2005 -> 05:38 PM)
    I make you all a deal I stop posting the truth about KW.. and you stop posting onhow great and what a good GM he is..

    Deal?

    When your "truth" stops including sentences such as "My handpicked team would be 2-3 games off this pace right now", then maybe I will start to understand what you mean. Until then, you are playing a rotisserie(sp?) league

  2. QUOTE(soxfan420 @ May 25, 2005 -> 02:54 PM)
    :cheers :drink

    I just dont want the Sox to have to face Randa anytime soon. that guy is absolutely lights out against the Sox. If they have to acquire him to prevent this from happening, so be it.

  3. I have actually talked with 4 scouts over the past 3 years 2 at the all-star game when it was here, about KW.. And most say the same thing that I preach.. He should not be a MLB GM, he is in way over his head

    droppin names....

    So you walked up to scouts and started talking shop about KW? I would think scouts have alot more to do with their time at games than to talk down about a GM. Thats just me though.

    Only after JR hired on OG and he started to complain to the media about how he wanted a real baseball team. That is what lite a fire under KW arse to make changes..

    Lit a fire under his arse to make changes? KW has been making changes, every year, to try and better his club. It isnt as if he has been sitting back and letting them play and up and decided to start making changes because Ozzie started complaining. True, alot of his moves have blown up in his face, but that happens to every GM. Even Brian Cashman makes mistake signings. The difference is that Cashman has always had more wiggle room than KW because of Yankee money and Steinbrenners desire to win.

  4. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 25, 2005 -> 12:52 PM)
    I hate it when somebody proves me wrong.

    LOL. here is to 20/20 hindsight! :cheers

    In all seriousness, If I had to pick between

    Ortiz and El Duque

    I pick El Duque

    Jose Guillen and Jermaine Dye

    Jermaine Dye ( and that is only because Guillen is a ticking timebomb who has no concept of team, regardless of who is coaching him. Sciocia coaches very similar to Guillen, I dont see how Ozzie would have some sort of calming effect on Jose. )

    Gibbons/Roberts and Konerko/Iguchi

    Konerko/Iguchi, hands down. Gibbons hasnt done much to distinguish himself, and while Roberts is pretty damn good, Iguchi is the one I want. Konerko will be fine, and will probably put up better numbers than Gibbons. iguchi should put up comprable, if not better numbers than Roberts.

  5. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 25, 2005 -> 12:46 PM)
    I've learned not to even bother reading that garbage.

    I played MLB2005 on playstation and got Oakland to trade me Hudson, Chavez and Zito for Pauly, Crede, and PTBNL. Straight up! It can happen! It really can!

    :drink :lol:

  6. QUOTE(poorme @ May 25, 2005 -> 09:35 AM)
    uribe is what he is. it's not easy to find a good hitting SS.

    what about CF, RF, DH, 3B, 1B? that's what is killing the offense.

    Well, we were all complaining about Konerko and Dye hovering around the .200 mark a few weeks ago, and they now stand at .228 and .221, respectively. Not great numbers, to say the least, but at least they have both been raising their averages while making contributions. Carl needs to get himself back on track, or its gonna be a long season for him when Frank gets called back to the bigs. Rowand is real close to breaking through, just a hunch. Although his weak grounder in the ninth didnt help him out too much.

  7. QUOTE(AirScott @ May 23, 2005 -> 06:11 PM)
    on a related note, am I the only one that noticed the shameless plug by the Tribune writer?  maybe the fact that the Sox get no love from Chicagoans and the Cubs do is because of the obvious media bias (the newspaper owns the Cubs).

    Actually Scott, that was my beef with the article, not whether Konerko should be re-signed or not.

  8. I found this on the Sports Illustrated truth and rumors page. The Tribune is reported as the source, but I cant find where this was printed:

    Wouldn't it be nice if Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf opened his wallet to sign free-agent-to-be Paul Konerko? It would have been done by now if Konerko played for the Cubs, but Reinsdorf's ownership group doesn't have the resources of Tribune Co., and just about everybody in the Sox's clubhouse understands that.

    It would have been done by now if Konerko played for the Cubs? What the hell is that supposed to mean? Didnt the Cubs wait all off-season and part of Spring Training to re-sign Aramis Ramirez? How about all the smoke and mirrors in the Sammy Sosa contract negotiations?

    Reinsdorf hasnt endeared himself to everyone throughout his tenure, but claims like this are just stupid.

  9. QUOTE(DABearSoX @ May 23, 2005 -> 12:41 PM)
    I read an article in the paper on if JR dove into his pockets and made the parking lots into an area like wrigleyville, with bars and things to do before and after the game we could be owning this city.

    I think that is part of the grand master plan of re-designing the US Cellular experience. From what I keep reading about what they areplanning to do, bars are on the way. You can only hope that the people who own the property around the park are smart enough to capitalize on the gameday traffic.

    It seems like it is way too obvious for me. Open a bar to cater to the fans. Duh.

  10. QUOTE(Southside hitmen @ May 23, 2005 -> 10:22 AM)
    My friend who is a huge Rangers  fan came up with a trade

    The Sox would send Aaron Rowand, Joe Crede and B Mac for Mark Teixeira and Hank Blalock

    Someone explain to me how this benefits the White Sox please. You lose your starting centerfielder, starting 3B, and future starter for a starting 3b. Im sure Texas would jump on this trade in a heartbeat :ph34r:

  11. QUOTE(BobDylan @ May 22, 2005 -> 01:59 PM)
    Alright. I was just wondering, that first inning I heard him they weren't really responding to him. It sounded like he wasn't supposed to be there.

    He has been quite comical.

    Moose: I wouldnt want a piece of that Buehrle, that big Right hander

    DJ: Ahhh Jon Garland

    Moose: I wouldnt want a piece of him either. :huh:

  12. QUOTE(Pastime @ May 22, 2005 -> 04:32 AM)
    As for kyyle and southsider - I know both of them from another forum, and I wouldn't trust either of them as far as I could throw them.  They add nothing to any forum. I think both of them are closet Cub fans.  J/K, guys.

    :lolhitting :D  :lol:  :cheers

    Pastime telling it like it is :D

  13. QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ May 21, 2005 -> 06:27 PM)
    When's the first column about big bad Sox fans acting badly in Wrigleyville?  Sunday? Monday?  Totally unprovoked, of course.  It's gotta happen. :fight

    I was at the game on Friday, and there really wasnt alot of animosity that I saw. The Cubs fans were really subdued after the Sox started scoring, and when they got into it when the Cubs scored their first run, the Sox just shut them down and got out of the inning.

    I saw a bunch of people about 5 sections away rise up because there was a scuffle, but it was stopped pretty quickly.

  14. QUOTE(knightni @ May 21, 2005 -> 08:33 PM)
    The Bulls aren't bad and the Bears are going to be a lot better this year.

    The Blackhawks have been bad for years; they don't deserve attention until Dollar Bill sells them.

    I know the Bulls arent bad now. But they were for 7 straight years, and yet they stayed in the top 5 in attendance still. Thats a fact that baffled Mariotti, and he used to love ripping on the fans for it.

  15. Mariotti has been slowly(and grudgingly) admitting to the readers that he now thinks the White Sox are for real. He jumped off the loveable loser bandwagon as soon as he saw signs of it steering into a wall. Now Hendry and Williams have switched identities in his mind (that of a against-the-grain genius and a bumblin-stumblin moron) and now he gleefully rips on the same people he was hailing as the next dynasty in baseball.

    Mariotti is always a fun and funny read, even if he is ripping on your team. but his messages in his articles are worth no merit whatsoever. The man who would be muted in every appearance on Around the Horn knows no true loyalty, and honestly does NOT understand the unique Chicago fan loyalty dynamic at all. You can tell because he constantly rips the fans as well as the players for showing up to support a bad team(Cubs, Bulls, Bears) and the lack of support for other teams(before the lockout Blackhawks and White Sox). I read his articles with a massive dose of salt anymore.
