  1. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 04:14 PM) Interesting. If participants say it was, but a lawyer investigating says no, which is more reliable? The lawyer! Everyone loves lawyers.
  2. Alpha, sorry to go off on a tangent but your sig is somewhat misleading. It is true that many farmers are hunters but when you look at the big picture factory farms kill billions of livestock annually. That includes chickens, pigs, and cows. I can't imagine the number of animals hunted and killed even remotely comes close to those numbers.
  3. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 01:32 PM) http://chemistry.about.com/od/chemistryhow...ovefluoride.htm The answer is no, they do not remove fluoride. Ah thanks. I will send that link to a friend that thinks Brita and PUR are worthless. He was under the impression the filters remove fluoride so he only drinks tap water.
  4. I was reading the article in the Trib today about the rise in dental cavities and the effect bottled water (no flouride) has on it. So does anyone know if Brita or PUR water filters also removes the flouride in tap water?
  5. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 09:29 AM) I'm not ignorant. I know what my grandparents did for a living very well. Something that my grandparents, and my parents taught me, is that *I* am responsible for ME. I don't count on companies taking care of me. I don't count on government taking care of me. I don't count on my children taking care of me when I'm old (although I would like to think I would raise her in a way that she would WANT to, but it is her choice). I don't count on handouts taking care of me. I have to work my ass off for what I get, and if I don't, I have to find another way to take care of myself. No one is going to do anything but me. If I make a mistake, it's on me, not my government because (dammit no healthcare, no retirement, no (insert entitlement here)). If I choose to scoop s*** on the street for a career, I need to face the consequences of that choice. If I choose to invest in myself and get an education that will make me compete in the business world, then I have made a choice to better myself so I have the skills to compete in the market place. Why is that so damn hard to fathom today? Part of the answer is most people feel ENTITLED to something that's not theirs in the first place. Most of the kids nowadays EXPECT things to be handed to them because they are brought up that way. I am going to do my damndest to make sure my little girl has a work ethic to work hard in life because her hard work will result in being able to take care of herself. I take it you hand deliver mail yourself since you don't use the post office.
  6. I'll try my best Kap impersonation: "Good, now when the state of the nation is all messed up the Dems can only blame themselves."
  7. I'll start with an article about the car company that has peaked (or is it piqued??) my interest. LINK
  8. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 24, 2007 -> 04:50 PM) Well, that's true, except that the Saudis haven't OPENLY said they want to destroy Isreal, etc. Other than the whole Israel thing, which of course is a big deal, what's the difference between Iran and Saudi Arabia?
  9. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 24, 2007 -> 08:41 AM) I must say, that Star Wars Family Guy episode last night was one of the best animated shows I have seen in a long time. If you missed it, find it. And I can't believe no one has yet mentioned the Chicago Simpsons episode - it even had a White Sox reference! Of course it wasn't very flattering but it's kind of expected. Overall I thought the Family Guy episode was a bit disappointing. I had very high hopes for it. It had its moments but I thought it had potential to be much better.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 24, 2007 -> 08:03 AM) Last night I was flipping through channels and I watched a foreign movie called Tsotsi, i highly recommend this movie. It came out in 2005, its about a thug(Tsotsi apparently means thug in the African language spoken in this movie) who has a carjacking go bad and he ends up with the infant son of his victim, which changes his perspective on life. I meant to check that out a while ago and forgot all about it. I'll add it to the netflix queue. Thanks.
  11. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Sep 24, 2007 -> 08:32 AM) If they are NOT paying him, and are allowed to ask actual tough questions (NOT "boxers or briefs"), then I don't have a problem with him speaking there. Just make sure the cameras are rolling! However, he should not be allowed anywhere near ground zero. I can definitely understand the hatred flung at this guy but where is the hatred for Saudi leaders? Weren't most of the 9/11 hijackers Saudis? Not only are we continuing to sell arms to the Saudis but I don't hear much outrage against the Saudi government. Their country seems just as wacko as Iran's. Public beheadings and all.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 04:22 PM) So in recognition of the Family Secrets trial, I went back and watched Casino again. Damn that was an exellent movie, and an incredible cast. As much as I loved Good Fellas I think Casino was better.
  13. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 11:58 AM) The Chargers are the most unlikeable team in football. Really? Why? I thought the Patriots had that award wrapped up.
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 21, 2007 -> 07:58 AM) I would figure if you are willing to tell people that to have an opinion on something they have to be living a certian way, that you have to be living your life in accordance with your opinion, correct? Well, lets hear about all of those anti-war groups, marches, activities etc that you are in, so that you are able to possess the opinion that you do. You are absolutely correct. I live a life of peace. I practice peace and do not promote war. I have been involved in several anti-war protests since we began preparing to go to war there. I also vote for candidates that share the same attitudes. I then sold my car in order to stop supporting middle east oil. What exactly are you doing to help the cause for your pro-war stance? "Support the troops" ribbons around your tree and similar magnets on your SUV don't count.
  15. QUOTE(NUKE @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 02:09 AM) I don't know what this douche is doing with an "R" next to his name. He believes that the U.S. is to blame for 9/11 for chrissakes. Douche? Are you holding out for O'Reilly and Coulter to enter the race?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 04:14 PM) Do you think they can afford $150 million? I do. They will sell out that park until the day they tear it down. They bank on WGN.
  17. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 03:27 PM) I agree but for another reason. We already have two pretty decent fourth OFers with Terrero and Owens. What role would Erstad play -- backup first baseman? If Mackowiak is a free agent, I'd hope the Sox would try to get him back here -- he clearly loved playing here (even this season) and you could probably grab him for right around what he made this season. Speaking of Mackowiak, apparently he's been playing the past couple months with a hernia that needs surgery. Speaking from experience, that takes a lot of guts -- when I had one poppin' out on me a couple years ago I didn't even think about doing anything extraordinarily athletic. Here's Rob trying to fight through it as a professional baseball player. So why would you want another older, mediocre guy back on the team that's injured? I'll pass. Ozzie doesn't know how to use him anyway.
  18. I'm thinking of joining. http://ronpaul.meetup.com/94/?gj=sj5
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 11:07 AM) Oh for crying out loud... This guy has no chance. He seems like his head is not in the game.
  20. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 21, 2007 -> 01:53 PM) Give it some time. I guess I can add another Thompson related story.
  21. QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Sep 21, 2007 -> 06:32 AM) who wants to come hang out with me at the party mansion...NOTHING SEXUAL LOL!! That was fantastic. I love their flyers. "It's not a penis. It's a bicep."
  22. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 21, 2007 -> 07:25 AM) Miles of road in Iceland= about 8000, under 3000 of which are actually paved. Miles of road in the USA= about 4,000,000 I can see how that would be pretty easy to do here... Why the defeatist attitude? We wanted to put a man on the moon and we did. Now we can't match the ingenuity of Iceland?
