  1. Cowley and Gonzalez confirming no Manny in the lineup.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 02:12 PM) If Manny simply isn't ready to go today, they may find some way to keep him inactive for 24 more hours until the rosters expand, and thus not have to lose a reliever. How would that affect his playoff status?
  3. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) has there been a move on the 25 man roster yet to make room? I haven't seen anything official.
  4. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 01:36 PM) :Pierre LF, Vizquel 2B, Rios CF, Konerko 1B, Quentin RF, Pierzynski C, Kotsay DH, Ramirez SS, Teahen 3B Ozzie yet to talk to Manny about playing, lets not panic It would be insane if he didn't play Manny.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 11:50 AM) Kyyle more or less answered this, but I know you are smarter than that question. Domestic pigs have a gestation period of less than 4 months, a litter size that averages between 8-15 young, and they are weened in well under 2 months. Both males and females are sexually mature in under 1 year. Contrast that with dolphins, most species of which take around 8 years to sexually mature (females), reproduce onle every 2-3 years, have a 12 month (!!) gestation, and only have a single calf at a time. From a sustainability standpoint, do you really believe these are equivalent situations? Eating low on the trophic ladder as you do, you can also appreciate the per kg trophic cost difference in consuming an apex predator like a dolphin verses consuming an animal that primarily eats seeds, fruits, roots, and leaves (or a pelletized artificial diet consisting primarily of grain and vegetation). Humans also domesticated pigs about 10,000 years ago. Of course you understand the sustainability differences in farming stocks versus abstracting them from wild populations. I also understand that raising livestock is ridiculously unsustainable. Gallons of water needed to produce a pound of wheat: 25 Gallons of water needed to produce a pound of California beef: 5,000 Calories of fossil fuel expended to get 1 calorie of protein from beef: 78 To get 1 calorie of protein from soybeans: 2

And I apologize if I'm coming off as attacking you guys. I like to challenge the way people think about animals and their role in our world.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 11:31 AM) Pig is a meat that we can replenish, dolphins are wild animals that are rounded up and killed and they dont have the reproductive stamina that a domesticated herd animal does. This is going into the wild and slaughtering generations of animals with no thought of how they can repopulate. The way it is done is horrible, and the lack of foresight in regards to the species wellbeing is even moreso. I dont care that you are a vegan, thats your choice. I eat animals and its something I dont mind. I do mind, if the animal i am eating is rapidly becoming endangered because of my actions. Pigs need not worry about that Perhaps we could find some better ways to mass breed dolphins then so that everyone can be happy.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 11:28 AM) Bacon might not be a healthy dish, but it is fine to eat and won't cause birth defects like Dolphin will (which is laced with mercury way higher than the healthy levels). Like most fish? QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 11:28 AM) And yes, it is ok to kill animals when we are utilizing the meat to feed our planet (humans). Do animals eat other animals? Absolutely. Why can't dolphins be used to feed the population?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 11:18 AM) I think there is a big difference in the way animals are slaughtered Not sure what you mean by this exactly. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 11:18 AM) and as much as I don't want to say it, there is a major difference in the smarts/way we view different animals. So it's ok to kill dumb animals but not smart ones? Pigs are smarter than dogs. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 11:18 AM) I also want to point out that dolphin meat isn't even healthy to eat Bacon is?
  11. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 11:02 AM) Twinnys playing hottest team in AL the last 10 games, cmonnnn Detroit. A sweep by the Tigers would be fantastic.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 11:09 AM) What were your thoughts. I watched it and enjoyed it and am looking forward to the upcoming show Blood Dolphins. Personally, I hope that the documentary and the upcoming show will help make the situation far more public and hopefully put an end to what is going on in Japan. The video footage they get at the very end is absolutely horrifying. Can I ask what's the difference between people killing a dolphin for food and a pig for food?
  13. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 10:58 AM) Given that the Sox are now paying Manny over $100k a game, why didn't the Sox just line up a private flight if necessary? Exactly. Seems like a no brainer.
  14. @jcrasnick: According to the scouting grapevine, White Sox bench coach Joey Cora has emerged as a strong candidate for the Seattle managing job.
  15. Makes me wonder what Coop sees in certain pitchers that no one else does. Or does he just have a great calming effect on guys and making them pitch more at ease? I dunno. Just seems crazy that he can "fix" so many erratic arms.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 07:58 AM) Proveth me wrong, Edwin. I hope at this point this is just a joke.
  17. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 09:19 AM) Accordign to Guillen he would not play today if he was on a red eye. A red eye leaves at midnight not 6AM There are thousands of people that got on a plane at 6AM that are expected to work during their flight and as soon as they land. How does Fuentes end up with the Twins in time to save a game almost immediately and the Sox may now play 5 games after being awarded Manny rights. Nothing with this team is ever easy.....I understand it is not their fault. It would be their fault for not playing him today.
  18. Liney getting squeezed? Gameday made it look like it.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 09:31 PM) His 87th since the ASB Last I checked a week ago it was at 8 since the break. This is probably the 2nd or 3rd since I checked.
