2013 Films Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 26, 2013 -> 02:42 PM) Does Empire seem like a movie safe to bring 7 year olds to see? Battered skywalker getting his hand chopped off? I dunno but ewoks and the most recent 3 trend more towards being ok for small ones.

2013 Films Thread
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jan 26, 2013 -> 01:46 PM) Batman, X Men and Avengers weren't made for the masses? Of those 3, only Avengers seems like something safe to bring 7 year old kids to see. We're talking Disney and Star Wars here.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jan 26, 2013 -> 08:32 AM) That's not what it's about though. They're completely different kinds of films. I was really hoping they'd go all art house and find a director that could recapture the sterility, subtlety and mysticism that made the ANH and Empire so great. Disney and art house don't go together. They're trying to please the mainstream masses. You were never going to get a Nolan or Aronofsky.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 02:23 PM) That's probably why. I grew up in a blue collar family in a blue collar neighborhood, despite becoming white collar...I still carry a lot of that mentality. This is an example of that mentality shining through. I'm outwardly a "typical guy" type, it's what I grew up in...it's what I am. I can deny it, but when I see guys do yoga, or talk about it...the first thing I say to myself when walking past them is...'what f***ing b****es'. Dude, you eat vegan a few days out of the week. Stop being such a p**** and eat your meat and potatoes!

First two rules of the forum: 1. I will not insult other posters, directly or indirectly 2. I will not threaten anyone, even in jest He called those who disagree with him f**gots and threatened to go to war with them.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 02:15 PM) I dunno, by "you" he could have meant all of "you" dirty hippy bleeding heart liberals. Calling people who disagree with him "f**gots" seems like a blatant violation of filibuster policy.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 02:05 PM) Because Abrams is kinda s***? The Abrams Star Trek film is exponentially better than any of the last 3 Lucas directed films. *shrugs*

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 02:03 PM) I already made it clear that's why men invented it. But it's still for girls. I get to see those same girls, only I watch them while lifting weights...and they look back at us...not the "guys" in their yoga class. Did you just crush a beer can on your forehead while typing that?

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 01:45 PM) ...which proves my theory. Just shows you've never been to a yoga class. If you did, you'd realize that some of the best talent in town is in there, wearing skimpy clothing and contorting every which way. Keep laughing. I'll keep smiling.

Healthy Eating Thread
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 09:07 AM) That...a...lot...of...work...for...some...cold...oatmeal. It's good, but it's a lot of work IMO. I don't like having to clean up tupperware after, either. And it's cold. I don't like cold breakfasts. I tried it...it's great. But it's not for me. Then just eat my shorts. They're organic cotton so they're considered healthy eating.

How can anyone complain about Abrams directing this series after the absolute drivel Lucas produced in the last 3 films? Heck, Woody Allen would be an upgrade.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 24, 2013 -> 12:48 PM) I dont care about poverty. In 1950 I would've cared about structural racism but 63 years later much has been done to rectify that issue, so I dont really care about that either. What I do care about is how much I pay in taxes and where that money goes. I've never heard a compelling argument from anyone as to why I should be forced at gunpoint to give my money to something I dont care about. Some say a little welfare in the short term saves us a lot of welfare in the long term, I dont care... I dont want to pay for any welfare for anyone (or anything, since corporate welfare has gotten so crazy too). I should not be forced to pay for someone else's kids' schools, or their food, or their rent or their anything. Some say there is a benefit to it (I see none) and if those people feel obligated to subsidize others and their life then they can give money on their own accord, but taking it from me is stealing. That's where I stand on this. So you'll be building your own roads to get around, your own school to learn, your own power grid to provide your home energy, etc. And when something bad happens to you and you need the fire department, police, or an ambulance you'll just handle the matter on your own without assistance.

Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 24, 2013 -> 10:21 AM) "The Librarian of Congress banned the practice of buying a cell phone and unlocking it last October. Now the window in which it was legal to do so will close on Saturday, Jan. 26. " some kind of cite would have been nice. Who or what is the Librarian of Congress and what authority do they have to ban anything? From the source article which this one points to:
