  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 05:51 PM) How do you not have a political commentary show on cable news? excellent question. i don't know why.
  2. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 05:35 PM) If you search megatron on the App Store, 2 apps will show up...transformer comics or something. i wanted the megatron of apps. like a comparative description. if that makes sense. probably doesn't.
  3. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 05:23 PM) megaton of apps i originally thought that said megatron. was going to download the app.
  4. Turns out that the Youtube video Obama went on an extensive apology tour for didn't have much to do with the embassy attack. it was terrorism. Obama really doesn't know what is going on in the world.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 04:58 PM) I remember at Brother Rice, however, a lot of the poor saps who brought a lunch had to eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. hahaha. those losers.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 04:49 PM) George McGovern should have been allowed to govern this land. Little Friday pun. i'll never vote for an Irishman. i have some principles.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 04:39 PM) Can you imagine how pissed the kids would be if they had to eat celery without peanut butter? They might murder the kid responsible. Using peanut butter. it would probably be an effective weapon
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 04:40 PM) We were typically fed a diet of foie gras and sauternes through 8th grade. that would be banned now
  9. maybe i went to a snobby school or something, but PB&J was like a scrub lunch. everyone got the school hot lunch. there was like tacos and stuff.
  10. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 04:14 PM) It does in the context I was making the analogy - you're making unreasonable decision that effects the vast majority for the sake of a small minority, whether or not the actual threat of harm is considerable or not. You're creating a blanket ban as opposed to an individualized response to deal with the problem. It's the same idea. AN OVERREACTION. you must deal
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 02:10 PM) Answer this question honestly please. Is Romney one of the worst candidates in Presidential history? I would say yes. yes, and everyone knows that already.
  12. Trust in news media at a big time low. 60% distrust mainstream new media. http://www.gallup.com/poll/157589/distrust...s-new-high.aspx only group that trusts it are Democrats, basically because the vast majority of MSM news is clearly pro-Democrat party. Only 31 percent of independents trust news coverage.
  13. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 01:04 PM) Then you should run because Romney doesn't give a fakk about 47% of the country. Romney is using a failed strategy and is not a good candidate. That is becoming very clear.
  14. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 12:53 PM) The reason minorities vote Democrat is because they are seen as more inclusive and more helpful to the working class. Latinos are more culturally conservative (family oriented, church goers) but they vote for theireconomic interests, simple as that. The GOP could nominate Rubio next time but Latinos won't vote for him if his policies don't help working class citizens. Operation 65% will merely do the same. It will be inclusive and give equal opportunity to everyone. We will make it in the 65% economic interest to vote GOP.
  15. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 12:45 PM) How the heck do you try to win 60-65% of the white vote without being divisive and or racist? I hope Mr Genius wasn't being serious with that post. There is nothing racist about it. We will merely talk to the poor and working class white people that have been left behind. Under attack from the Democrats. Laid off from Bain by Romney. What programs do they see, on the ground, that they are not allowed to participate because the Democrats have excluded them. We will simply give them equal opportunity to programs just like those. The exact opposite of racism.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 12:43 PM) I can't stand white people. I am conceding your white vote. You are not in our 65% demographic.
  17. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 12:42 PM) I have no idea, I don't work in a machine shop anymore. I bet they aren't and this is a problem.
  18. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 12:39 PM) How would you go about it without being a racist? Tell white people to vote for you because Obama helps minorities too much? SMH It's very easy, just like how Democrats have percentages they want certain ethnic groups to vote for them. Are the Democrats anti-White racists? if they oppose our fair and just efforts to help poor working class white people, then we will just call the Democrats racist. 65% is within reach!
  19. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 12:36 PM) I've had some arguments with white working class dudes (I worked in a machine shop when I was younger) who complain about blacks and welfare, they always argued that the only people on welfare were blacks and other minorities... are they voting for Romney?
  20. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 12:27 PM) Here is your answer: Assumptions on who receives what sort of aid, how much aid and for how long can be used to rationalize white people's aid while criticizing black people's aid. You, being a well-educated professional who experiences this issue at least tangentially and argues on the internet about politics ad nauseum, are not aware of the data. What is the likelihood of the average working-class white poll respondent being aware of that data? oh boy do you have this wrong. Romney is out pandering to everyone but white people and is going to lose because of it. The GOP needs to go for 65% of the white vote. 60% will win it. That is where their focus needs to be.
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 11:45 AM) welfare queen" one of the best political strategies ever. too bad clueless Romney can't pull it off.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 09:45 AM) To be fair, Chicago's trend might be different than the national. This is actually fairly fascinating to me. A 50% decrease over 6 years in revenue. I wonder how much is evasion and how much is decreased smoking. I wonder if there's data for surrounding counties. good point. if i were to guess, i would say most of the drop is from smokers buying from outside of cook. the savings are probably just too much to ignore for them. it would be interesting to see the revenue increases out of state and in collar counties. i'm also sure more taxes lead to some people to quit. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-06...cook-county-tax i guess the next step is to build more prisons and start arresting people. oh but i suppose all those prisons cost money, but more prison guard jobs! probably still an overall financial loser.
  23. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 08:46 AM) The Google StreetView car was driving around Woodridge-Darien-Downers a lot a few weeks ago. i saw one in Oak Brook this week.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 08:19 AM) And it's obviously a bad thing that people can't afford to smoke? they are buying smokes in Indiana or the burbs. the fact is that increasing this certain tax to get more revenue has failed. the city claiming they will cover this budget shortfall with this specific sales tax increase is very dishonest. how about a booze tax? drunks probably won't leave the city to go to the bar.
  25. QUOTE (kev211 @ Sep 20, 2012 -> 10:37 PM) I honestly think it mostly has to do with a whole lot less people smoke nowadays then 6 years ago. Literally no one from the younger generations smoke anymore. http://www.gallup.com/poll/109048/us-smoki...oming-down.aspx even with this dropoff in smokers effecting the situation, the tax increase should have still boosted tax revenue on cigarettes. but the revenue dropped off a cliff. another tobacco tax increase will , very likely, drop cigarette tax related revenue even more.
