  2. QUOTE(GASHWOUND @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 12:27 AM) What's up..welcome. nice story.. Your cable or satellite don't offer baseball packages? just wonderin Yeah, we do have that around here. I just can't afford the time or money right now
  3. I think it would very unlikely. If we keep a big lead going into September, then we'll have the roster call ups. I think Ozzie would want to give the regulars as much rest as possible and play the rookies.
  4. What's amazed me is that ALL of KW's recent roster moves have worked out... He traded for Freddy, and it paid off.... He traded for Contreras, who has rebounded nicely.... Pods -- also rebounding well from last year.... Hermanson -- quickly stabilized our bullpen when Shingo struggled... Gooch -- exceeded most people's expectations and been our most reliable hitter.... AJ -- brought good offense to the catcher position... Widger -- I didn't expect anything from him, but he's batting .302.... Dye -- struggled early, but looks like has recovered his stroke and has been hot for us lately.... Ozuna -- where did he come from?? He's been a good backup for us.... El Duque -- has struggled in June, but pitched well for us before that.... Everett -- I didn't like the move last year, trading for him for a second time, but he has been valuable subbing for Frank while he was injured.... I think the only aquisition that hasn't worked out yet has been Vizcaino, and even he was having a good June until his last outing. That's 11 players he's added in the last year who have all made big contributions! I'd expect a good GM to have most of his roster moves be successful, but not all of them. KW has been on fire as a GM lately. He's made some rookie mistakes, but I hope this means he's learned from them and is on his way to becoming a good GM.
  5. Recently (last year, I think) there was an incident in KC where a player on the visiting team was sitting on the team bus and got shot by a stray bullet.
  6. Thanks for the welcome, everybody! Let's go Sox!!!
  7. I didn't see any place for new users to introduce themselves, so I'm doing it here. I have been lurking for a while and finally decided to join. Since I live in Kansas, I don't get to see many Sox games, so I find myself checking out the boards here a lot. Anyway, I thought I'd share my memories of my first Sox game in person (so I can keep this post on topic of course! ): It was 1984. I remember because there was still a lot of excitement in the city about the Sox after they won the division in '83. I must have been in 6th grade at the time. My family got tickets to a game because the Sox were running a promotion through my grade school. I think it was, if you get good grades then you can get a discount to selected games. We chose a night game against Detroit. We sat in the left field bleachers, lower deck, somewhere towards the back corner. During the game, Greg Luzinski came up to the plate. He hit a really high fly ball to left and I quickly lost sight of it because the upper deck blocked my view. I thought it landed in the upper deck, but then I hear everyone at the park chanting something. At first I think it sounds like "Oooh! Oooh!", but then I managed to get a glimpse of the scoreboard in center field. It had a picture of a bulldog saying "ROOF ROOF". Then I got it....Luzinski hit it onto the roof of the upper deck bleachers! Wow! I started shouting "Roof!" along with everyone else. Later in the game, a Detroit player also hit a high homer to left. I read later that his also landed on the roof. Didn't matter though -- the Sox still won in the end! We all had a great time. That was my first live Sox game. Sometimes I wonder if my memory is playing tricks on me. Two roof shots in at one game?! That must have been really rare.
