I like how the article just focuses on his offense. Beckham is one of the best fielding 2b in the league.
Yet KWs(Ozzies) latest pickups, Teahen and Pierre are in the bottom 5 at their position...
-
Man... having Damon on the team right now would really help right now
According to Fangraphs pierre sees 75.3% fastballs and can only bat .213
Glad hes batting 9th, he was always a 9th place hitter in the AL
Hopefully if teahen bats leadoff (hes our best obp guy), pierre will bat 8th
-
The great juan pierre > beckham or jones
Teahen or Rios need to be leadoff
Bat pierre 9th
-
lmao I love how some of the mods and even the admins are always butthurt over pods success
Instead we have Pierre who is arguably our worst hitter (and player w/ -0.6 WAR) for around 9M/2
The Sox could have had Pods for 2M-3M instead of acquiring a player that no one in the league wanted early in the winter...
If only he waited.

KW could have easily signed any of these guys....
BA/OBP/SLG
DH Matsui .302/.380/.587
DH Damon .327/.431/.400
DH Vlad .327/.367/.418
also
Podsednik .449/.526/.469
Though its also sad when our best hitter(maybe top 3) is making 500k a year and is playing DH w/ 10 gold gloves.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 06:15 PM)Not to be a dick, but Pods had another monster game today.
Obviously he's not finished and it doesn't look like Thome is finished, either. We coulda had both on the cheap.
Any regrets?
I'll stop with the Pods talk if it's making anybody mad, but it's easy for me to notice him since I am in Royals country.
Soxtalk is known for hating Pods.
For over four years here Ive read so many posters make grandiose excuses to explain why he stinks and will always stink.
Ozzie had a man crush on Juan and now we're stuck with a purely NL hitter w/ no power (9th place AL hitter) for two years... simple as that.
As for a lineup change bat Pierre 9th as the main DH, Play Jones 100% and move Rios to leadoff...
-
Five bobblehead nights are planned for the summer featuring David Eckstein, Chase Headley, Kyle Blanks, Clayton Richard and Everth Cabrera ... but no Gonzalez.
Jeeze we haven't had a real player sga bobblehead since Thome (excluding AJ and Peavy)... Thomas is great this year... but where's Bacon, TCQ, Alexei,D1,Floyd etc
I Also see AGon going to the Red Sox

To pass Detroit's 14M/2 deal, KW would have to offer at least 9M/1. (maybe 7M base, 2M incentive)
Detroit would be getting a LF, the Sox would mainly be getting a DH...
While Damon improves this team greatly, I cant see KW offering anything past 6M total.

QUOTE (jphat007 @ Jan 30, 2010 -> 07:00 PM)This is kinda random, but how good was D-Weezy in center field? What did the metrics say about him?
It's hard to say since he only played 35 games there. Had he played 150 games in center he'd easily be in the top 10 in the MLB. But in RF, he'd probably be in the Top 5.
On a side note: Ryan Sweeney was one of the best fielding RF in '09.
-
I'm sure KW knows 6-7M/1 is a bargain for Damon considering a LH DH of Damon's caliber in the 2 spot (Versus a Jones/Kotsay DH bating 9th) would vastly improve this team.
Looking at KWs pickups this year, all seem to be Ozzie influenced... So I'm guessing that it's his call.
-
Looks like the odds of KW singing Damon just increased

Oh oh...
Is Kenny working on trading Flowers now?
-
I think KC is the 2nd best team in the Central w/ this move.
-
Sabermetrically, Nick Swisher is an OBP stud worth around $15M and Javier Vazquez is an SO ace worth $22M a year...
So were these guys just mismanaged?
Hopefully Ozzie knows how to handle Rios in '10.

Just booted up my PS3
Trade Quentin(Arb Till '12) + Morel/Viciedo for Dunn(Type A) + Clippard
LF Pierre
2B Beckham
CF Rios
DH Dunn
1B Konerko
C AJ
SS Alexei
3B Teahen
RF Jones
Rotating DH: Dunn,Konerko,Jones,Kotsay

The Twins/Tigers were in no position to take on $60M.
If Rios was a FA in this market, I bet he'd get at least 60/5 simply because hes entering his prime.
The Mets offered Bay 65/4... I'd take Rios any day over Bay.

I bet kenny looked at this WAR and couldn't resist
http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playe...amp;position=OF
5.6 in '08, 4.8 in '07?
Hes comparable to Ichiro

"The two sides were several hundred thousand dollars apart"
watch him get a $5M/2yr deal
Bad move Kenny

While Dotel had a great '09 season
~$6Mil for a 36 year old arm isn't worth the risk. But looking at FA options... I doubt KW will find anyone better for the price.

Based on UZR...
Of the 24 players that had at least 800 innings at 3b last year Beckham (1st year) was ranked 14 and Teahen was ranked 21 (5th year)
This year based on at least 150 innings played hes ranked 29/30 at 3b ... just ahead of Jhonny Peralta.
The top players KW could have signed:
So far...
Adrian Beltre (9M/1, 5M option) is ranked 6th
Miguel Tejada (6M/1) is ranked 7th
Teahen currently has a 12.5M/3 contract (2.25M this year) saving around 4M (~66%) compared to Tejada.
Simply put, you get what you paid for.
