  1. I see it more as a way to get good prospects, but considering our attendance drop and huge amount of Albatross contracts every dollar probably counts at this point.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 01:44 PM) That is how you rebuild sometimes. Exactly. Nobody wants Adam Dunn/Alex Rios.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 12:26 PM) Certainly you could make arguments now between Floyd, Ramirez, Sale, Santos, Viciedo and Danks (although moreso prior to the 2011 season) as to our most valuable asset. Floyd isn't as good as Alexei relative to his position. Sale isn't proven as a starter, and Santos will never be more than a reliever. Viciedo might give him a run due to team control, but Danks isn't under contract long enough to surpass Ramirez' value. For the record, Dave Cameron at Fangraphs saw it the same way. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/2...de-value-35-31/
  4. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 11:02 AM) I'd like to see Lillibridge get some time at short the remainder of the season to see if he a viable alternative to Ramirez. Ramirez should be shopped this winter. You know, the idea of shopping Ramirez is interesting. Between age/contract/skill he's our most valuable asset if we want to fully rebuild and get prospects.
  5. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 02:46 PM) Have you been watching? Throwing has not been impressive I meant can't, typo.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 02:29 PM) Damn. Well looks like Tyler gets his try out early. Hopefully that D picks up behind the plate. It can't be worse than noodle arm's.
  7. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 07:00 PM) If there's not going to be a strict slotting system then there needs to at least be a luxury tax of some sort imposed on teams who spend, spend, spend on amateur players both in the Rule-4 and internationally. I don't know how such a system would work, but a team like the Red Sox should be forced to play by the same rules. If there is no max slot per round or whatever, there should at least be a max total budget allowed for all the amateur signings combined, and the system should go based on record. For example, you finish 25-30th in the league the previous season and you get to spend up to the max, but if you finish with a top-5 record in baseball then you get the tiniest budget possible. And any team that goes over pays dollar-for-dollar to the rest of the league. Or maybe do something similar with picks instead of money. Then how would teams like the Pirates and Royals ever compete? They need to gamble big on the draft. Also, you'll lose even more 2 sport guys to the other sports.
  8. QUOTE (since56 @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 06:40 PM) Another batter hit and again no retaliation. Pitch inside all you want to the White Sox. Your guys are safe. The Sox never retaliate. You know we get a free baserunner for those, right?
  9. A team with 3 good players and a lot of good pitching should be around .500. Pitching and defense are half the game. I didn't even need sabermetrics to tell me that.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 03:53 PM) Who on this team is a "good" baseball player? Tell me. Ramirez, Konerko, Quentin, and a lot of the pitchers. Maybe Lillibridge if he doesn't turn into a pumpkin with more PT.
  11. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 03:51 PM) Juan is a terrible baseball player who happens to have good contact skills. One redeeming quality does not make him much less of a terrible player. At his best, he is average. Last season he played the best OF of his life and was around average, so this is pretty much accurate.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 03:42 PM) No, we just watched him in the OF in April. I watched him have no power all season, too.
  13. He scores runs because he gets a lot of PAs with Ramirez/Konerko behind him.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 03:33 PM) With the way Alexei started this season he looked like he was going to be a lot better, but he's been in this ground ball to the LH side groove since about May 1 that has really hurt, especially causing DP's. He's been a lot more useful than Pierre because he's actually hit the ball hard, but no where near as good as it seemed like he should have been. And any offense out of a defensive SS of his caliber is a bonus. He's the best player on this team.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 03:26 PM) You can take out Castro, Lilly and Flowers because they haven't played enough to compare to steady Juan. I'd disagree on Ramirez so that makes Juan fourth best on the team. Not bad. I see your point with Castro and Flowers (though Bridge is getting up there). And regarding Ramirez, are doubles, walks and home runs are meaningless to you?
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 03:18 PM) Arguably he's our third best hitter. That's pretty f***ing excellent. For the record: better White Sox hitters by wOBA (which credits hitters for everything they do offensively based on the context neutral value it adds to run production). Konerko Quentin Flowers Lillibridge Castro Pierzynski Ramirez
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 03:17 PM) To the 80 percent of America who still follow batting average, his batting average is excellent. His defense is fine. His willingness to learn how to bunt and get a hit off a bunt is very excellent. He's a good ballplayer. Juan Pierre is a better hitter than Reggie Jackson was. Got it.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 03:14 PM) I'll stand by my comment. He's a good baseball player and a good leadoff hitter. A lot of fans (not saying you) buried him after his first error of the season. On a team full of bums (this season) he's been excellent. 0.1 WAR. He's not good defensively, has no power, and doesn't get on base frequently. He hits for a good average and runs well (not counting SB attempts where he hurts us). That doesn't add up to much of a player.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 03:11 PM) Juan Pierre with the bunt hit. He's a good baseball player. Corner outfielders who slug .337 are not good players. I'm glad he's less embarrassing lately, though.
  20. Reading this thread before bed was a terrible idea...
  21. Am I seriously the only person who thinks this means nothing and is just randomization?

  23. I am down for buying low on this kind of talent. Get it done KW.
